Threatening to not gank an infighting lane.

So one game where I was jungling, my bot lane had a composition of Tristana ADC with Kassadin support. Ignoring whether this was useful or not (because normals) I found them bickering too much and dying a lot because of it. As the laning phase went on (they would not stop arguing) me and the rest of the team grew increasingly annoyed with these two. Finally I told them that unless they stopped fighting each other, I was not going to gank their lane.

They shut up. I ganked. We won.

I've been developing the mindset of threatening to not gank a lane if the laner is an asshole or is actively fighting the rest of the team. But is this a good habit to develop or is this a bannable offense? I can see how people could abuse this, (With some junglers saying, "Call me god and I will gank for you" or some shit) but can this be put to good use?

I mean I would consider it a gray area that depends on the situation. In your case you didn't want to gank a lane that wasn't going to follow up effectively, which they probably aren't going to do if they are bickering. I think it's important to differentiate between "ganking you is a tactically bad decision unless you do X" and "Stop annoying me or I will not gank".

I think it fell under the former. Because of their infighting it seemed unlikely that they'd both follow up effectively in a gank. Really I was attempting to get them to work together as continued infighting only makes you more likely to lose as the game goes on. I would have been happy if they just stopped typing.

Yeah I think you made a tactical choice and shouldn't really be punished for it. That being said I'm surprised they both didn't turn on you instead.

Would you want to risk never getting a gank?

Joking aside, I guess I was lucky.

I assess the situation each game. I never threaten to not gank. But if I don't believe I can help my laners get kills / objectives, I will not bother as it is tactically a waste of time. I can better spend my time helping other lanes / getting objectives.

I have found threatening team members like that to be more negative than positive. It leads to people just blaming you, and becoming increasingly angry with the game. They do something good, apply dst (dick sucking theory) and compliment them. Let them know they did well.

I know that sounds incredibly silly, but keeping the positive attitude helps people come back and try to win the game. The only time I don't do this, is if said player is admitting they are on tilt. Being on tilt is playing bad, knowing it, and being angry about it. Most anything you say to these players won't help, and I find it better to give them space if possible.

Keeping positive doesn't sound silly at all. I usually try to break up infighting in constructive ways. There I was just...experimenting I guess.
