After a game of mordekaiser and looking at his skills, i would like to propose changes. @mordemains

I played a game of Morde today, thinking why the hell not hes fun, and proceeded to do not that badly. It was a fun time, but i had several issues with playing him come teamfights, I always seemed to get no damage off and get blown up immediately because i have no shield up and couldn't build resists because i needed more damage.

After a quick look at his skills, i realized he suffers from what i would like to call "the Illaoi syndrome". By this i mean, riot intends him to be a good fighter in the middle of the enemy team, or at least that's how he feels he should be played, but cant contribute due to needing to build damage. Sure its understood that to do damage, you need to build damage, but he needs to also be right in the thick of the fight, meaning he needs to build tanky. The reason i call this "the Illaoi syndrome" as opposed to the generic problem with all fighters is that he has no real means of closing gaps, and thus has ridiculous scalings to compensate. Illaoi used to have an ad ratio increase on tentacles which is one of the reasons she was bad for so long, now though she can build more health (and resists) because the damage scales better with her bases. So really, its a juggernaut prolbem.

So here are my proposed changes (which will probably most not be best because i don't know the champion in all his maliciousness)

Q Mace of Spades http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/1/18/Mace_of_Spades.png/revision/latest?cb=20150812202549&format=webp

  1. Add an aoe component similar to a gragas w, https://i.ytimg.com/vi/saSzGqhgIy8/maxresdefault.jpg . This is intended to give Morde more threat while fighting clumped enemies. It should deal approximate;y 1/5 of the damage of the main strike for the point below.

2.Reduce the scalings on Morde's Q, and increase damage dealt based on % missing shield. Now i know what you're thinking. what does this have to do with making morde better at all!? (or perhaps in a less nice fashion) Now, this is_ intended_ to reward him for fighting in the thick of a fight. Shield low? Do more damage, get more shield. Shield high? do less damage, get less shield. This needs to be tuned very finely, to ensure that he cant shield for an eternity, but can mitigate some damage if he's doing his job.

W Harvester of Sorrow http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/7/72/Harvester_of_Sorrow.png/revision/latest?cb=20150812202056&format=webp

  1. The % max shield component of Morde's E should be moved here, to allow more sustained shield generation overall. Having it on his E gives him a big boost immediately, which (at least to me) seems to not follow along the lines of a guy who wants to be constantly inflicting suffering onto people and sustaining himself from it.

E Siphon of Destruction http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/41/Siphon_of_Destruction.png/revision/latest?cb=20150812202525&format=webp

  1. Now that we have his shield generation moved over to w, his e can be a utility spell, so i propose it should slow by 33-45% and ground (yes the new cc, so what?) all enemies hit by it for .75 seconds. One of morde's major issues is that he can be kited easily. Yes that is an intended weakness, but why then can Darius have a pull and a slow, Garen have a speed boost, and Illaoi have both a leap and that soul grabby thingy? this is also a short duration so it wouldn't be significantly overbearing in terms of cc.

R Children of the Grave http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/6/6c/Children_of_the_Grave.png/revision/latest?cb=20150812201747&format=webp

  1. Mordekaiser relies HEAVILY on his ghosts from what I've seen and experienced to be most effective, and i do like that he has a unique place in league, BUT his ult has many health issues for the game. This is NOT me proposing a new ult entirely, (though i have a few ideas) but he should rely less on his ult to be good. So with this in mind I propose that Mordekaiser not get buffed when he enslaves someones soul. Instead, all damage done by the spectre heals Morde for 25% (or something, probably lower) of the damage dealt by it pre-mitigation (1/3 on minions). In this way, mordekaiser can have not so terrible base health that magically increases once he gets a ghost, and can sustain from others suffering even more.

Now with all of this, i finally propose that his base health be increased by 134 at lv18 and base health regen by 1-2 per 5 so that he can function a bit easier. Perhaps also up his base ms by 5, but i don't want to get too crazy.

Please tell me how much my ideas suck or don't and what i may have actually gotten right about this guy if I did. I really do want to see Him become a good champion that can be played without buying rylai's every single game.

I like the Q idea as it reminds me of his old Q which was one of my favorite parts of his old kit as you could use it to get some hidden poke off, and it emphasized his theme of being this incredibly powerful melee mage who hit so hard that multiple people could feel the blow, and you were rewarded if you could manage to isolate your opponent and get off the bonus damage. Having the AoE do only 1/5 of the damage would be incredibly weak and it would feel like Swain's ult right when it came out after the mage update, and then it would get overbuffed as compensation and we'd wind up with way too much damage. It should simply do 1/3 of the total damage to up to three additional targets, with him relying on his e to hit everybody else.

The increased damage based on missing shield is a cool mechanic, but I don't think riot would be able to, let alone willing to calculate those stats because they're lazy. Secondly, if I initiate a fight without first using my minion wave to get the shield up which was a problem old Mordekaiser had, I'm just going to get instantly annihilated by some assassin who will go full retard and become untargetable and blow me up.

Having his W generate increased shielding is a good idea, though I slightly wish he'd receive the armor and magic resist boost again as it was more usable as an early game stat against the likes of Yasuo and Fizz who could dodge around everything he did, so unless he had his shield already up, he was going to get fucked before having spell-vamp. Plus it made his allied tanks a bit tankier when using it on them. I say get rid of the heal mechanic and return the, it's not necessary on a champion who builds spell-vamp in the form of gunblade and can get it in his masteries, possibly in runes though I don't recommend the last one.

Mordekaiser's old E looked like it was meant to destroy the ground, now it just resembles a boring cloud of mist with a lame sound effect. A very brief slow does sound favorable for its utility, it would bring more to the table other than mediocre poke, and overall sounds like a respectable change.

As for the ult? He just got through healing off the enemy, murdered them and is now using their soul to kill even more people, so this would be far too much sustain. Receiving an hp boost only matters if he takes their tank for which he only gets bonus hp but no offensive stats, whereas with ulting an adc or someone like Yasuo or Tryndamere who have strong autoattacks, he's going to sacrifice hp for more offensive power. His ult is in an okay spot right now, definitely not a great spot, but its in a place where he can drop his ult, not have it obliterate your hp instantly, and instead will punish you for staying close for too long as the damage slowly escalates and you die.

Finally the VGU. I can see riot fucking that up tremendously, but I want to see a terrifying undead mace general, so I'll take the risk. His sound effects need to be restored to the old metallic tracks as they sounded infinitely more fitting than this lame supernatural shit.

Oh yeah, his VGU I expect to make him look really metal because full reworks do tend to make champions better as of late, but they need to change his abilities somehow. I really think the Q,W, and E were really good ideas for morde though to make him a more complete champion in the meantime, most especially the W getting the % shield, because right now its not a very good ability except for a small bit of damage, and sustain in lane.

Oh and also, the shield generation thing before engaging is still good, because you mitigate their initiation damage then deal tons of damage to them, punishing them for going in on you (like most juggernauts (not including skarner)), and if you dont have shield, you deal tons of damage because they initiated on you with no shield.

edit: Another thing, the heal scales with enemy % max hp, meaning the heal from someone tanky would be worth more but the sustained heal would be worth less, while the initial heal from an adc would be worth less, but sustained heal would be worth more.

He definitely needs a full rework to function properly, and not one that tries to force him into a role he's in no way suited for, and where he receives an innate disadvantage just by being melee.

What pisses me off most about the rework though is that Mordekaiser got used as a stepping stone for the birth of the meta that Kindred had a hand in creating, and that was making marksman viable in virtually every role that isn't support. If bot lane is occupied by a melee-carry then our marksman gotta go somewhere, right? That was the justification. I don't mind champions being played outside of their intended roles, but excelling at it the way Graves and Kindred did (Graves in an infinitely worse way, Urgot is our marksman bruiser/fighter, we don't need another one), not-to-mention Jhin mid, Corki mid, and half these other mid-lane marksman who rarely even go on their AP paths anymore like Ez, and receiving not a shred of compensation to tone it down or help other lanes deal with it... yeah, fuck you, riot for destroying my favorite champion just so you could set up one of the most toxic metas this game has ever known.

he's fine. he can control powerful dragons.

Well, as a Morde main I can say he's pretty workable right now. He might need a base stats buff but his skills are in a decent spot.

He does require a full blown VGU down the line though.

But the problem is that he pretty much NEEDS a rylai's every game. When a champion relies on an item in order to function they are in a bad position, much like old vlad with WotA.

Also, im not saying he doesnt work, but these are just some of my ideas to make him work more satisfactorily. What do you think of my ideas if he were to change?

So basically reverting the failed rework? Sounds good to me.

mordekaiser has insane synergy with stormraiders you should try it.
