Don't use a gap closer if you don't need it

MunchCrunchLunch··17 votes·1,423 views

If the enemy is right next to you . dont use a gapcloser just to do damage. and don't use a gapcloser when your flanking an enemy and they have nowhere to go because if they juke or flash you you got nothing. unless you also flash. which he would have outplayed you. saved it when you need to gapclose on running enemy

I was actually this close to adding Jax into my post.

Of course taking Akali and Irelia above gold is hard and takes more skill than just that. But if I say that I'd get downvoted.

Lee Sin's Q is simulatenously an execute with a 1.8 AD scaling.

It deals more damage than quite a few ults.

As for Lee Sin's using their W for no reason I can't say much.

1.8 Bonus AD, huge difference.

Don't make me include the base damage, which is A LOT more than 1.8 times his base AD.

Its base damage is 340. THREE HUNDRED FOURTY.

His base AD is 120. (119.6 actually but it rounds up). 1.8x119.6=215 damage.

In other words, by only stating the scaling and nothing else, I actually understated his damage.

Assassin Lee Sin's Q does 400x1.8+340=1080 damage. Of course, not something you'll see often, but that's more than most ults can accomplish.

His W gives 280shield+30% lifesteal/spellvamp, which in a duel can be really huge + he might want to keep the passive up. Now if he uses it on a minion or ward for no apparent reason, thats just stupid.

Well yeah.

That and he has so much damage and sacling that he'll heal a lot from even a single Q.

A lot of gap closers have other utility such as damage, resistances, cc, ...

I agree that it could be used to prevent someone from escaping in most cases, but I don't see it as a "NEVER DO IT" kind of thing.

Darius same with him, don't use your hook if you don't need to.

a good darius (anyone that isn't shit) applies the most stacks possible before pulling the target thats trying to run away. my usual combo is Q auto W and they usually start running away. pull them two autos and dunk.

Sometimes you have to use the pull defensively to disable someone who is in your face. Occurs quite often when facing the likes of riven (using your E when shes right on top of you to interrupt her third q) or renekton (using your E when he dashes on top of you to disengage).

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i use E to cancel channels or ruin some combos too. also the cc knock up back or whatever it is ususally cancels an auto and gives u advantage in 1v1

I play a lot of Vi. For her, you need that Q to set up her initial combo, its her ult that you need to save unless you absolutely need to.

The obvious exception is if your gap closer will kill the opponent or if you have multiple gapclosers.

I'd think it's worth using your gap closer if it will kill the opponent and nothing else will, since they can't run if they are dead.

Alternatively, if you have multiple gap closers, it's probably fair to use one of them for damage, as long as you keep one in case they flash or you miss (although obviously this isn't always the case).

But olaf will get away if I don't dash into melee range as Lucian!

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i gotta love the lucians that dash onto an annie and die. yeah save it for the escape adc man

Sire Hippington1 votes

Heavily depend on the champion and situation. Many champs have CC and alot of damage tied to their gapcloser, so if they don't use it the opponent probably doesn't need to get away to win.

It's only in situation where your opponent cetainly would die if he doesn't use an escape(like most ganks) where you always should hold back a gapcloser till needed. Or on champs where it does not much else than closeing the gap, like xin.

What I'm hearing is don't use q or e with riven unless they flash. .... Seems fair.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

does riven need to not use her dash? iits on low cd. read the title again please. riven dash is her source of damage q cancel. so dont be a smart ass

Automated Riven1 votes

I am being a smartass, for the specific reason that you are applying cornercase situations and using it a blanket cover all senario for the singular purpose to complain. Multiple champions dashes are created to serve as engage tools or are part of their damage. And your taking (what I assume to be a specific senario where someone baited a dash and flashed away) and instead of assuming that their are multiple senarios that should be reacted to differently you instead throw a fit about EVERYBODY who uses a dash that isn't needed when really this post is most relevant to adc's or mages.
