need a "never match" option: block should block

Quil Evrything··14 votes·703 views

I noticed, on the smaller population size in PBE, that I have gotten matched with people on my block list. This occasionally happens in normal server, but much less frequently of course.

Please, Please, make "block list" actualy BLOCK PEOPLE from matching up in your team! RIght now, its really only an "automute" list, rather than a block list.

I put people on block list who are toxic scum, and I never want to play on the same team. it makes no sense to match people who arent going to be able to communicate with each other.

If you disagree thatis beyond what blocklist is for.. then please make a new list, that actually DOES this?!! I dont want to play with toxic players!

And if the argument is "well, that would make matching too long"... shouldnt I be the judge of what is too long? If it makes me wait even 5 full minutes longer.. I would be happy to wait that much longer ! Particularly in ranked!!!

I've been matched TWICE with someone on my block list on PBE tonight. The same person, in fact.

Normally i'd report this on the PBE boards, but since this is a feature request for game interaction (and the feature is not specific to PBE), I figure it belongs here more.

This idea never works especially in Ranked. Other games have tried this in the past and it didn't just raise wait timer by 5 minutes, it raised then by upwards of 20-40 minutes if not longer in some cases depending on the time of day. You can't perma block someone in a competitive game mode and expect the game mode to stay competitive and have a fair ranking balance.

  1. "other games" are not League of Legends. LoL has a waaay bigger player base.

  2. no, this does nothing to change "fair balance". it doesnt change anyone's ELO.

  3. I dont give a $#@$ if I have to wait an HOUR I'd still rather wait to play with non-scumbags. Me: "Hmm.. do i want to spend the next hour playing with scumbags on my team, hating every minute and probably losing anyway... or do i want to spend the next hour reading/watching anime/doing something I ENJOY?"

No contest. the second one.

it shouldnt be up to you, or anyone else, to determine how long 'acceptible wait' times are for me.

What could be appropriate, is if someone gets stuck in queue for a long time, the client pops up some sort of notice, "hey i notice you have a really long wait time... maybe you could consider cleaning out your blocklist". But thats all .

I'm fine if they did a system like this for normal games. Block who ever doesn't matter but for ranked I could very easily block everyone I find to hard to play against and eventually the match making would only give me players I could easily beat thus affect my rank status because I'm only ever playing against players I know are bad. This gets even easier the higher the rank you are as there are even fewer people who are better than you. I mean it wouldn't be hard for a challenger/master tier or even diamond level player to essentially block everyone above them to only play with people below them.

you're wrong. But you seem to have fixated on an odd interpretation of how matching works, so I wont attempt to argue further with you.

Cool story bro. Can't even tell me how I'm wrong . Way to go. I'm sure you give up on everything you do in life this easy. Probably why you made this BS QQ thread in the first place.

Riot shouldn't be making systems or not making them because a very small minority of the playerbase may abuse the system. The majority of the playerbase will use it to avoid scumbags and trolls.

If you're that afraid of a system being abused, then don't play League or any game. Ways you can abuse the game of League: going AFK, trolling, intentional feeding. There will be few trolls who will do things like that. We can't let those trolls ruin our good things.

easy solution: people on your blocked list can't be on your team but can be against you.

That way it gets even sweeter when you either stomp them and show them what a true carry can do without them holding you back, or you get rekt and realize that you need to get better.

Riot is afraid of people abusing the system.

This is where I disagree with Riot, you make a system to help most people who use the system for the best reasons to stop harassment /avoid afkers or trolls, not to be afraid of the abusers who are in the clear minority of the playerbase.

There'd need to be a strict limit on this for both how many people you could block over a period of time (say, 2 people a month) and overall.

And even then it'd still be used to block people you can't beat or you can't carry more than anything else.

you dont understand the proposal here. the proposal is only to block people from being matched ON YOUR TEAM. There is no restriction on the other team's composition. So putting people you cant beat on the list, would be counterproductive to someone who wants to win games. you should want them on your team :)

Then what's the purpose? The unfavorable person on the enemy team still has every moment of the game to harass you if you'd want. And it'd be even more incentive to block players that you feel play poorly, in hopes of getting matched against them.

the purpose is that toxic players are a detriment to their team. So if they're on the other team : GREAT! you can always just mute them. But if you have to mute a person on your OWN team.. you're at a disadvantage, along with your whole team

This is a really poor design that

1: All but forces everybody to participate in it 2: Will effectively "lock in" less skilled players from being able to make actual advancements. If you block somebody for doing poorly, and then a month later they improve to your level, you still can't play with them. They're stuck playing with people they have surpassed because you got salty about their poor plays a month ago.

no, it doesnt force anyone. Nor does it stop people from advancing. This is league. There are thousands and thousands of people playing it. Even if they pisssed off 10 people every day for a year... there will still be thousands more for them to play with.

lets take the worst case scenario, where what you said is actually true. Lets say i blocked people that i thought sucked, so I get matched against them on the enemy team.

Then I advance out of their ELO, and I dont play with them again, on either side of the teams. So, it's a short-lived, self-solving problem. There's no long-term advantage. Particularly if you believe that the matching system is fair.

if you believe that the matching system is fair, then you have to belive that, reguardless of whether they get put opposite me and they suck... the system will "balance" things out somehow with the composition of the other team members on either side.

Otherwise, please state explicitly, "this wont work, because the matching system is totally screwed up and unfair, and doesnt balance out teams properly"

This won't work because it will totally screw up the matching system, making it unfair and impossible to balance teams properly.

Your system can't function if everybody uses it, because there are a finite amount of players. They'll get split up into player-made tiers that cannot be undone unless you make people unblock other players after a set amount of time

I gave you reasonable numbers, and yhou ignored them.

THOUSANDS OF OTHER PLAYERS. TENS of thousands, actualy

It may as well be infinite, given that you can only play a certain number of games a day even if you do it non stop.

But if it helps assuage irrational objections, i wouldnt mind if block lists expired after 6 months.

1 month would be way too short.

If you're afraid of this being unfair to competitive play,

you know what else is unfair to competitive play?

That's right DUO QUEUE.

This would be pretty abusable in higher ELOs,...
