PSA: High Skill Champion Syndrome

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm AngelNipata, bronze level support main, and I have come to talk to you about a serious problem that affects many low elo players. I'm here to talk to you about High Skill Champion Syndrome, but to talk about this you first need to know what this terrible mental illness is. High Skill Champion Syndrome, or HSCS for short, is a mental illness that plagues low elo tryhards. Once contracted, this disease shuts off the part of the brain that is responsible for self reflection and empathy. Common symptoms include but are not limited to, bitching and moaning about "this elo", constant attempts to 1v5, flaming teammates for not being able to keep up with their hyper mobility, and AFKing or trolling after a single thing goes wrong. HSCS imparts a sort of "god complex" in the affected player causing them to see all lower skill champions as low to no skill champions that are inferior to them when killed and are completely broken when the affected player is killed. Many of these players suffer from outrageous levels of salt, but luckily months of research have led me to discover the cause of this disease, how to avoid catching it, and how to cure it.

As the name of the disease suggests, the cause is high skill champions. Many people believe that playing higher skill champions make them better players than everyone else, which is false. Playing high skill champions may infer that your mechanics are above average, but it does not infer that your decision making and map awareness is better than anyone else's. The common misconception is that causes HSCS is the idea that high skill champions make you a superior player. The problem arises when people believe that their mechanics as a champion translate into game knowledge, when game knowledge is something that can only be improved through experience and self reflection. Another related cause is that a players mechanics are the only thing that matters. This logic leaves the brain open to HSCS because the player becomes incapable or realizing that there is more to League than individual skill. Due to the use of a high skill champion, players believe that their "superior" mechanics are all that matter and that their team is just dead weight stopping them from reaching challenger. These general mindsets allow cause players to forget about themselves as part of a team and allow HSCS to settle in and increase salt production in their system.

To avoid catching said disease, one must be prepared to give up their preconceived notions about Gangplank LeeSin Riven Vayne Yasuoetc... and realize that League is a team game and where your goal is to improve yourself and try to offer tips to help your teammates improve. You can still play these champions, but you must understand that they don't make you an inherently better player. It's really as simple as that. I understand that elo hell exists(I might even be a small flame in it), but this does not give you an excuse to infinitely flame your team. In my opinion, it may be better to try to suggest how they can improve in the future to lessen the burden they will have on elo hell in the future.

If you have been infected with HSCS, I would first like to apologize for making you seem like monsters, but you have an issue. To put it in polite terms, having an open mind to criticism and trying to help your teammates are good steps towards being cured. Try communicating with your team without calling them trash and if you are having trouble in your lane, it's okay to ask for help. Realize that it's okay to not be able to outplay yet and keep practicing because you'll eventually get a lot better. Take a moment to realize that the people on your team are not a literal group of chimpanzees in front of computers, they're humans just like you. Lastly and this is the most important step, take time to think of the affects of your actions on the game and your teammates. In impolite terms, get your head out of your ass.

To conclude if you or a loved one have been exposed to Gangplank LeeSin Riven Vayne Yasuoetc..., you may be at risk of contracting HSCS, which is a low elo disease that cause players to lose their ability to see a fault in themselves. People who play the above champions are not guaranteed to have the HSCS, but are at a higher risk of contracting the disease. People who play lower skill champions are also at risk of because god complexes are not unique to people who play high skill champions. This has been as public service announcement form a bronze support.

TL;DR: Playing a high skill champion does not make you inherently better than your team. Best way to cure it is to understand the basic concepts of league as a team game.

P.S.: I understand that there are trash teams out there and how terrifying elo hell is, but there are no excuses for being toxic. Along with that, nothing good comes from being toxic especially when your team might already be pretty demoralized, you're just making it worse.

P.P.S.: To people who wonder why no one follows up on your engages, you might just be in a position where no one can follow up because your team is half way across the map and don't move at super sonic speeds like you do.

It doesn't help that Riot keeps nerfing "low skill champions" for having "too little interactivity". Farming as a low skill tank in toplane is a thing of the past, you can hardly survive against champions like riven, yasuo, irelia, darius and ect... Most of the effective tanks have moved to support and jungle for the security and non-interactivity that they need to get to lategame.

Which is why I say everyone needs to stop and play a few games of Sona Put simply, you aren't going to mechanics your way out of a situation with Sona. You have to do literally everything else better and trust the strength of the champion and the few mechanics needed to do the rest. Which is why I like the champion; yes, this is probably a biased response since I main Sona, but I think it holds.

It is fucking amazing when you beat people infected with HSCS using "low-skill" champions. They get so salty afterwards. Garen into Yasuo, Annie into Azir, Sivir into Vayne, Warwick into Lee etc.

you forgot Graves top/jungle

But those guys are the most satisfying to beat. Nothing feels as good as when your Cho'Gath stomps a gangplank, Your Malzahar makes the enemy Yasuo look like a fool, or getting a Double Kill off a cocky Lee Sin and Riven as Illaoi. Drawing the tears of people with HSCS is probably the funnest part of playing simpler champions. The enemy Vayne can cry all she wants, but my Rammus is still going to Powerball into her, EWR and fuck her up and because she has HSCS, shes not going to build QSS because her champion is "superior".

Gp doesn't cause HSCS, he causes farm kill steal syndrome.

This is an important post and needs to be spread worldwide so people are more aware.

Oh and btw I found the cure for facing against HSCS infected... Yorick . Majority of HSCS spreading champions can do nothing about him since he lets his AI's do most of the work.

No joke I have made no less than 10 Yasuo's rage quit or just just stop trying with Yorick... Please pass on this knowledge, let people know!

This was a funny post, but GOD the bit about the movement speed/dashes. Like. Please. I see this all the time (Zac players do this, too!!!) where they will dash halfway down mid, lose the 1v5, and then flame us for 'not following up'

like, man listen. I am moving as fast as I can.

it's like they think I'm actually using my legs, and I'm just not running faster because I'm lazy. I've seen ppl die alone to a 1v3 in someone's jungle, and ping for assistance while we're all in base. Unless I'm a fed Shen, there's NOTHING that is saving someone when they're that far away.
