How Strong is Cass?

Hey, I'd like to start off by saying that I'm not very good at League so bear with me if I misjudge anything.

So basically, me and a couple friends have been arguing about Cassiopeia. I personally think that Cassiopeia is completely fine in her current state and has places where she excels. Because I do not play Cassiopeia or see her a lot in my games, I can't give a very accurate overview of her kit, but she seems a lot like an AP ADC(I hesitate to say APC because that term could be used for basically all mages) who specializes in high, sustained single target and tools to stop help with her kiting and self-peel. To me she seems like a high micro champion who has a fair couple things to focus on. I think that the focus on reapplying q while kiting to maximize damage takes a fair bit of skill to do properly and the fact that Cassopeia's damage is output at at least a moderate rate compared to other mages is what balances her.

My friend has a very different opinion to me. He thinks that Cassiopeia is a "broken" or low skill champion. In his opinion, Cass is overpowered because she has a highly spammable e that does, in his opinion, too much damage. He basically stated that Cassiopeia is broken because she can harass her opponent pretty well without having to apply much effort. To prove this we did a 1v1 with a friend of mine jungling to manage my side in case anything went wrong. He played Rengar, I played Kalista and, the friend I was arguing with played Cass. Basically, I got pretty much destroyed because of my own mistakes and the fact I wasn't very experienced as Kalista. The game got to a point where we had to 2v1 him at which point he simply declared that we only had even a chance because Rengar and Kalista have synergy. He stated that junglers can't even gank Cassiopeia because she can even 2v1 easily with her ult.

One thing I noticed during the game is that he bought three items that really damned Rengar and I. He got item 3116 item 3157 and item 3040 which are what made him really hard to fight. He basically shut down our mobility and used his items to nullify a fair bit of damage and good on him for doing so. I think that the only reason that he thinks Cassiopeia is overpower is because Rylais makes her extremely hard to escape her once you get hit by something and because Archangel's into Seraph's works really well with her kit.

So what I want to know is what do you think of Cassiopeia?

Sidenote: Anyone have any tips for playing Kalista? I really enjoyed playing her because of her passive and I really feel like picking her up for fun. (I know that Kalista is super off meta, and I understand why she's in the state she is right now, because I started playing league last year when she was top of the meta)

Strengths of Cass: High DPS Main damage is targeted (i.e. not a skillshot) Decent peel which is enhanced by Rylai's

Weaknesses of Cass: Mana hungry, probably more so than the average mage (hence why she needs item 3048) Most other mages outrange her (non-melee of course) Low mobility, unlikely to escape a proper gank without ult People who build boots are usually faster than her Does not do much AOE dmg (her E is single-target), compared to Brand Veigar Lux Doesn't have much burst dmg, she does it over time

Because of this, Cass probably excels in 1v1 and being aggressive. Against her, an ADC would probably have a hard time. A better choice would be someone who can poke and burst her from further away. It's also important to not just face her head-on and get caught by her ult.

Ok, your friend is wrong. Yes she strong, but not broken. If he think that cassiopeia is a low skills champions, he should try the old katarina. Cassiopeia is THE most skilled mage I ever played, and i know what i'm talking about. Mage is my main class and i'm a pur mid laner. I played cassiopeia a lot and I place her among the most difficult mage to play because first, you MUST hit someone with your Q to deals a tons of damage with your E, and your Q is pretty eazy to doge because of it's 0.7s cast time and you W don't let your opponents poisonned when they walkil off of it. If the target isn't poisonned, your E deals pratically the same damage as a basic with a bonus magic damage on it. Also if you ingage, but miss you Q, your in pretty deep shit because any burst mage will just destroy you. All your plays are based on your Q. If you miss it, it's GG. If your friend thinks her Q is no skills and easy to land, it's because he don't play her a lot, or he is bad against her, like me against Leblanc.

For me, Anivia and Cassiopeia are the hardest mage to play because those to work in the same way. First, they are sooooi squishy (exept anivia have a gardian angel passive) and second, they both have to land a hard to land Q and then if you succeed, strike with your click-to-win E. But still, Anivia is easier, because her R can also trigger the double damage of her E.

Cass is deff S tier. Play Vlad or Syndra into her and you should do fine. The key to beating Cass (outside of the obvious don't get hit by Q or walk into W for free poison'd E shots) is to just cc her. This is why Syndra is great into her. You give up a quick stun with E and hopefully can then 1 shot her with R before shes able to Zhyonas or shield with the staff. Sometimes it might take 2 to get her, so its easier to just wait for ganks on her to succeed. Remember she can only really burst one of you. Once she completes Ryalis, yes, she can escape ganks pretty easily with w and ghost. Just keep up with her in farm (she farms very easily, almost easiest mage in the game - next to Annie Q spam - so work on last hitting a ton) and just like any strong champ, do your own part, she will do hers. Identify who the correct focus and just team fight properly; you'll be fine. AVOID THAT STUN.

Also, she is able to burst down neutral OBJ's quick (Baron and Drag). So watch for teams to take these early if shes able to help out. In addition she has one of the strongest level 2 all-ins in the game. Care on that.

Shes not as hard to play anymore, as you used to get punished if you used your E and they weren't poisoned (it went on a CD of a few seconds), and shes able to E without stopping her previous move command, so she can kite easily now. This doesn't mean that shes "easy to play" though. You will have to land your Q for the harass, as well as managing your mana correctly. You can free farm with your E mana restoration but to do real trades with Q and E spam, it will take some mana. Watch out if she has blue buff, this makes those trades more likely to happen with less punishment to her.

Dodge Q, CC her, avoid her ult, win. Gl on the rift.
