Mordekaiser 5.18 Hello Zhon's goodbye Sterak's or Triforce??

With the upcoming 5.18 patch Mordekaiser W is being changed to purportedly balance out his solo / duo lane balance:

W - Harvesters of Sorrow NEWWELCOME BACK Can be self-cast even when alone REMOVEDDON’T LET ME INTO MY ZONE Damage no longer doubles when the zones overlap COST No Cost ⇒ 25/35/45/55/65 health ZONE RATIO 0.6 ability power ⇒ 0.9 ability power DEACTIVATION DAMAGE 50/70/90/110/130 ⇒ 70/95/120/145/170 HEALING AGAINST MINIONS 33% ⇒ 25% MAXIMUM UNITS DRAINED 3 targets ⇒ 2 targets

Now what I want to draw attention to here is the increase in his AP ratio. To make this skill still viable you will undoubtedly have to invest in more AP items, item 3116 specifically item 3157 as it gives AP and Armor.

I see this having some weird Tank issues that actually might make him more of a threat Duo lane especially against attack damage. The increase in Armor in conjunction with item 3047 item 3143 item 3742 effectively gives him 270-300 Armor depending on runes and mastery set up (actually more if you go defensive tree)

And there is still an item slot left for potential damage item item 3078 item 3089 or defensiveitem 3075 giving him roughly 400 Armor with the right set up and distributed power throughout his kit though his Q does take a slight hit.

Early game W is weak but mid-late game is technically stronger as a Duo nothing has changed possibly even better. I don't see how this changed actually focused on solo morde it just seems to have changed hit Kit-Itemization focus.

Thoughts?

I wanted to test the Morde patches this morning, but could not play.

I'm curious how to work around the healing nerfs, while still dealing nice damage with the q. I had rylais, rabbadon's, SPIRIT VISAGE, dead man's, tri force, and boots of swiftness in mind. The question is, in what order? Morde is bursted very easily, so tank would be nice.. But if you can obliterate an enemy who came close, you won't need to worry.

I was thinking spell vamp to negate health costs a bit, but I'm cautious to do so. Any tips on t Runes to use? I currently run AD marks to proc q and e early, armor yellows for better defense, magic resist or CDR blues, and AP quints along with the AD and AP masteries in the offense tree to amp up his kit. Is this viable? How well do you think defensive masteries would do with 5.18? Or utility? Also, would it be worth sacrificing the additional offensive stats?

Also, how well would yall say blade and spell weaving masteries work since Morde does mixed damage if one went the offensive route? Ramping up q seems to be good as the other abilities dont deal so much damage and the heal is OK. On the other hand, having a ramped up heal would allow more time in lane to deal q damage, even if not ramped up.

Some notes - the lowered the AP ratio from 1.2 (.6 doubled) to .9, as you can't overlap it for double damage. It doesn't do DoT damage (the bulk of its damage) if you don't have an ally around, so Zhonya's doesn't really help him. Its damage basically got halved.

Trinity force and Sterak's gauge are still the two most core items for him, the big change is now you want to max Q first, instead of W.

W is kinda worthless now, even in solo lanes, as it nets a 10 to 20 heal, from 50 to 130, although you can use it Heal easily in the jungle now for great sustain.
