@Riot Balance Team: Change the Mana Font passive to increase base mana regen based on missing mana

The present Mana Font given by Chalice of Harmony and its upgrades is a highly under-par bonus because if you get it early on, it gives you virtually no mana regeneration even if you're empty. Why? Because it scales off your missing mana, not your mana regeneration. When your Champion only has about 500-600 maximum mana, 2% of your missing mana every 5 seconds is only 10-12 extra mana regeneration when you're out of mana.

Meanwhile, you have Morellonomicon which raises your base mana regeneration constantly by 100%. For most mages, at levels 7 and onward, that's about 10 extra mana regen regardless of how much you are missing, which is always better than 10-12 only when you are empty.

And now you see the problem with Mana Font in its present form. In order for it to give any MEANINGFUL amount of mana regeneration (i.e. a high amount for clutch scenarios), your maximum mana needs to be high (i.e., at least 1500). That means you are required to get a mana capacity item like Tear of the Goddess or Catalyst, which eats up one of your valuable slots and delays other pure AP items, CDR items, or support items.

Essentially, Mana Font demands too much of its user's build right now. It's like Atma's Impaler for mages and supports (and we all know what happened to that item).

In order to fix it, it needs to ditch the whole "restores X% of your missing mana every 5 seconds" crap and go back to a passive more similar to what it had before. But since Riot will outright refuse making it the same as before (which would lead once again to obnoxious "infinite mana" scenarios), here is a modification on how it could work (take the numbers with a grain of salt):

Increases your base mana regeneration by 1.5% for every 1% of your missing mana.

This makes it so that it doesn't take into account the mana regeneration you get from other items, runes, or masteries, and basically increases your mana regeneration up to a cap based on which Champion you are playing. This would also make its timing more important; Supports have higher base mana regen early on, but Mages get better base mana regen later.

For instance, most mages end up with about 20 base mana regen at level 18. If they go out of mana with the above change, they'd get at most an extra 30 mana regen, which isn't nearly as high as it was back in S4, but still enough to actually make a difference without requiring 2K maximum mana.

My two cents.

TL;DR? Nope, take a minute and read it.

Fair idea.

True, it's kind of silly to make it scale with max mana since you usually pick either max mana or mana regen items as a mage. Very few like to buy both ROA/Archangels and Athenes.

This also brings back some of the scaling athene had into the late game.

The worry here is how it will interact with other items.

Assume 20 regen. Let's say you've just got Athene's with this change. As you said, OOM you've got 50 regen. Let's say you've just got Morello's. You've got 40 regen.

Now let's say you've got both. Your base regen scales between 20 and 50, so your total regen will scale between 40 and 100. That's massive by any account.
