No really, when in the fuck are you going to address Garen, seriously.

Garen

Garen doesn't need any buffs, let alone changes to his ult. He's fine as is.

Darius, on the other hand, was basically completely crippled in the League of Mobility Creep. He needed something to make him worth a damn.

JusticePauldrons1 votes

Garen has even less ways of dealing with mobility creeps as one of the only tank/bruisers with lack of hard cc. Darius can pull, slow and get an ms boost, and does all 3 forms of damage. For real.

Garen does 2 forms of damage. Darius pull range is stupid low, his slow is not even that good. His MS boost is worse than Garen's Q I am not saying both of them are OP, I definitely think both of them need buffs. But garen deals less damage than Darius because he can become WAY tankier.

JusticePauldrons2 votes

Being way tankier doesn't mean anything if you can't do anything with it. Garen's only method of forcing focus is to deal damage, which he can't do well at all. He has no reliable method of engagement, no hard cc and less damage than darius. Late game is can easily be ignored most of the time by the enemy team because he has no way of stopping them.

Then just to add insult to injury his ultimate is garbage half the time with much better options being on champions who CAN force focus and CAN peel for their team and CAN be a threat at any stage of the game.

I do miss season 1 when Garen might've been considered freelo, now he's been such bleh trash its sad.

Normally, I'd agree with their saying that Garen's ult prevents you from laning against him (since he can kill you, and then do it again when you return to lane; thats their justification on not buffing it anyway)

Riven's Wind Slash does pretty much the same thing though, and its AoE, AND on a lower cooldown. At the very least they should lower the CD to match Wind Slash.

JJ H0G7 votes

All of Riven's damage is physical, so she is extremely easy to itemize against.

Garen's ult is magic damage while the rest of his damage is physical, so you can't really itemize against his ult without dying to his spin and AAs. He also can deny most of her damage for 2.5 seconds so he can laugh at her shitty AA speed.

GloriousKaiser7 votes

Well Darius is extremely hard itemize against, he has all 3 damage types built into his kit.

If Darius goes full damage, he is easy to kill If he goes tank, just buy health, he will be unable to kill you fast enough

This argument is dumb and you should feel dumb.

No one itemizes against Garen's ult in lane because it's not much of a threat. It's only dangerous if you get low and if you're laning against Garen your health should never drop below half because Garen has no gapcloser (only a shrug) and you only take AoE damage if you stand in it. Garen is very easy to kite and very easy to gank. Garen isn't the lane bully he once was.

Riven has a stun, a shield, and far mobility than Garen. Riven has a stronger execute than Garen for lane phase. Riven's ultimate execute can be used on a team late. Garen's ultimate "is the best execute" if you built nothing but health. But wait! Tanks build health AND resists and if Garen gets on your backline, it's your fault for not peeling one of the most kitable champions in the game.

Anyone that thinks Garen > Riven "because muh ult does magic damage" needs to play bots. Especially now that DFGaren is gone.

"He can kill you with it, and then do it again when you return to lane".... Riot should really explain how that's any different than any other champ? You come back to lane and Riven Darius Chogath Akali Kennen Maokai Rumble Irelia Tryndamere Trundle Aatrox Swain Vladimir Zed LeeSin Yasuo Renekton ETC. can all kill you with their ults again... so whats the problem here?

What makes Garen ult so special?

Its not the only free/manaless ult... its not the only execute. It has low range, it has a channel that is canceled by loss of vision, it deals very low damage to targets that aren't dying already, it is reduced by MR as it deals magic damage. DFGaren is dead... mercy.

The only thing Demacian Justice really has going for it, is the missing percent health damage that is weaker than most people think. There have been calculations in the past that put it in range of Volibear and Nidalee's executes which are both normal abilities, NOT ultimates. The only time it actually exceeds them in damage is when the target has VERY LOW MR AND HP(however all that extra damage they receive when they're on 1 HP isn't exactly OP, no matter how high it may be lol). So basically YES, Garen's ult is very good at overkilling nearly dead targets... but is fairly bad in terms of ultimate abilities at executing targets otherwise.

In conclusion... buff Demacian Justice 2015!

2013/2014 they refused, but maybe this will be the year...

When i add Hexdrinker people always complain because they can't comprehend how that works lol. They also use the excuse "why would i build MR against Garen". When in reality you're building it as a third item to reduce the enemy mids damage instead, and it just so happens to ruin Garen simultaneously.

Oh, and it also has a giant AD boost for free because reasons.

A Miss Fortune2 votes

Garen isn't that bad really. Look at his kit. I'm not saying he's Nidalee, Zed, or Lee Sin level but I think he's decent.

-Extremely tanky -Very nice movement steroids -Silence -Good wave clear -Nice execute -Good skins/models -Classic and fun -Easy to play

The only thing I think should be changed about him is his splash art, it looks like his head is shrunk with his 500 pound shoulderpads.

BeatzBoyFTW4 votes

Garen Has free mobility boost, extra self-defence & tenacity, & does not use any resources.

Darius No mobility (passive is as unnoticeable as old Sion's passive), not much gap closers, & uses mana, causing him to oom really fast when he gets his resets.

This is true however its a shallow comparison between the two. Now if you were to include.

Darius Has pseudo ranged harass in the form of Decimate(it does more damage at max range), a slow, an AOE pull that can occasionally ignore flash(bug), has excessive kill potential in lane, and decent DPS late. Garen Has a silence, lower damage output and kill potential at every stage of the game.

With that included it still would NOT be a good comparison.... :P

Garen and Darius are rivals who kits were intentionally designed to be similar. Between the two Darius focuses on soul crushing damage, and has been hated by many for that very reason. Garen focuses on being tougher so he can soak up all the damage while charging the carries. They're both relatively low mobility melees that are strong early, and weak late game. However of the two Darius is actually the more lane dominant champion, while Garen actually holds up better late(neither are good late game champs overall however). As someone who basically mains both, i would say Garen holds up better for his performance as a tank. However i don't believe either are particularly good, and i do believe they're deserving of buffs, among other champs(Cough Shen pls Cough*).

Silents4292 votes

It is kind of sad, since his ult isn't even that strong in comparison to the other execute ults in the game.

The cooldown is insane early on.

Darius has shitty base stats and nothing in his kit gives him any sort of defense.

Garen has good base stats, good damage, and can still dish out that damage while building mostly tank.

Darius did not need buffs any more than Garen, and they are both very hurt by mobility creep. In fact Darius was, and still is impacted less by the release of Gnar and Kalista then Garen(two of the biggest offenders). Darius can combat them with his excessive early game kill potential, and his pull. Garen can't get in range of them period. Neither of them scale well into late game. Furthermore Darius can also deal plenty of damage while building mostly tank, its just neither of them will get a chance to use it against mobile targets.

DropFill2 votes

Garen kits make him tankier, faster than Darius, and for that, he sacrifices damage. But darius damage is pretty subpar mid-late game, except if he builds damage, but again, he is easily killeable full ad

King Odin2 votes

I used to main Garen, then I found Volibear and that was it ;(. Voli can do everything Garen can and his damage scales on health and he can execute at lvl 2 very easily. :(

probably the least impactful champ in the game, i agree he needs some attention.

buffs on ult cd are not always Garenteed although while we're at it... could fiora maybe kind of sorta get a cdr on her ult? entire community of league: NO

SecretAgentHulk1 votes

How cool would it be if his ult reset on a kill?

Also it would give something for Garen to be jealous of Darius for. Darius can't spin as well, but he sure knows how to dunk.

Deadliest One1 votes

Its because it have 0 ramp up, and dont worry, Darius rework is incoming. He will have more to do before executing someone with his''OP TRUE DAMAGE ULTIMATE''.... Garen still have no ramp up and its scales with missing hp. around 40% lvl 3.

Ser Garland2 votes

Yeah but the trade is Garen's ult is magic damage. You know all you have to build is a hex drinker to make garen's ult useless. So Give Garen's ult a reset at rank III

People don't seem to realize that Garen has the highest potential execution damage in the game.

Oh look i can deal 9999 damage to a target with no MR at 1HP... wow what a powerful execute(sarcasm).

Its not like i couldn't stand there and wait with item 3068 for them to die at that point or anything....

Being able to completely overkill an ALREADY DEAD target is a terrible excuse!

Garen's ult is only a strong as people like you believe it is on paper, because you're not factoring in ANY variables. If the target has very low HP with no MR, any of the other executes will be just as effective as Garen's(Doing 1000 magic damage to a target with 200 HP, is no better than 600 true damage). However if the target has more than 40% of their HP remaining and god forbid some MR, most other executes are superior such as Noxian Gullotine or Wind slash(Demacian Justice also gives ZERO benefits after it does its job). Garen's ult isn't flexible, has huge drawbacks, and is much more powerful on paper than in practice.

Note: If you're going to downvote this post at least state why, or present a counter argument.

JusticePauldrons5 votes

That is bullshit, his execute completely relies on killing a target already near death and has no other scalings. Meanwhile, look at Jinx.

Super Mega Death Rocket! RANGE: Global COST: 100 MANA COOLDOWN: 90 / 75 / 60

ACTIVE: Jinx fires a rocket that travels in a line, exploding on a 225-range area around the first enemy champion hit. The primary target of the explosion takes full damage, while nearby enemies take 80% of the total damage. Enemies caught in the explosion take physical damage equal to a base amount, plus a percentage of their missing health (max. 300 vs. minions and monsters [2]). MINIMUM PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 125 / 175 / 225 (+ 50% bonus AD) (+ 25 / 30 / 35% of enemies' missing health) The base amount of damage increases by 1% per 15 unit the rocket travels over the first second, for a maximum of 100% bonus damage (200% total damage), and the missing health component is individually taken by the targets[3]. MAXIMUM PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 250 / 350 / 450 (+ 100% bonus AD) (+ 25 / 30 / 35% of enemies' missing health)

Her ult deal** 5% less** missing health damage than Garen's and has **global range, lower cooldown, is an aoe, can potentially do double it's base damage and scales off of AD. **

So sure, if we were talking about a sion with 1/7000 health I bet Garen will do more damage with his ultimate, but at that point does it matter?
