Stick out a bit more.

Just make it have some noticeable movement of some kind. It might be just me having some degree of color blindness or perhaps might just be that eyes tend to notice movement but it seems to often times catch me by surprise. Since it does not really make itself noticeable for something that could potentially kill you.

Make it have fairly fast moving black flames or light shades of grey or something but just make it so that it is sticking out a bit more.

Think of this as more a readability issue then anything else.
