There, I think that's a better way to put it. It's a way to get things you would usually pay money for just by playing the game, without necessarily having it handed out either.
MVDuneCats1 votesI don't think the issue that people have is that they have to earn keys. The problem is that it's unclear how much work it takes to earn them. Lets go back to the sushi analogy.
You answer a quiz question at the booth, and get rewarded with a shiny, locked bento box with the promise of some sample sushi inside. You also get told that you'll get a key to open the bento box over the course of the meal for doing what you were already planning on doing: eating your dinner.
The first key arrives pretty quickly. You eagerly open it up to find some enticing sushi that you would like to try. BUT WAIT! You can't eat that piece of sushi just yet. You have to open up 3 more bento boxes, and trade in all 4 sushi samples if you want to enjoy one of them. Or you can choose to open up 2 more bento boxes, and trade in just 3 sushi samples for some other random sushi sample. Hopefully you don't get one that you're allergic to.
You're pretty good at the whole quiz game, so you start getting bento boxes lined up on your table. The keys are now coming slowly, but not nearly often enough to keep up with the bento boxes. You're not nearly as excited about the prospects of the sample sushi, especially now that you've learned that the sample of Banzai Kamikaze Samurai Roll is the most expensive sushi on the menu, so it'll actually take you 8 bento boxes worth of samples to trade in so you can enjoy that Banzai Kamikaze Samurai Roll.
You take a look at the 3 unopened bento boxes on the table that you're still waiting on keys for, and think about the other 3 you'll still need to get and how those will also need keys. That's when you notice that you can buy bento boxes and keys for a quarter each.
All of a sudden, it doesn't feel so free any more. It also doesn't feel like you're earning the keys, since they just seem to come out randomly. Maybe you should just buy some keys and bento boxes. After all, they're pretty cheap. In the end, it's like you're buying that Banzai Kamikaze Samurai Roll at a discount.
At least you got a Banzai Kamikaze Samurai Roll. The guy at the next table got an Asparagus Roll from his bento box. He said he hates asparagus. He didn't even bother answering any more quiz questions after that.

Honestly I don't see why they just don't make it like the FWotD IP bonus, and make a flat cap on what you can earn.
Like, you can earn one key fragment a day (I know that sounds a bit slow) and a chest per week. Put in some pseudo-RNG so you will earn a chest at least once every seven days or something.
Obviously they can't make it too easy (being a business and all), but I guess the problem lies with more how it feels rather than people actually getting the stuff or not. More transparency and "fair" mechanics trumps some decaying RNG is what I'm hearing.

Where I come from, when they ran out of boxes, people go home and come back the next day, not protesting in front of the restaurant and annoy other patrons.
Also keep in mind the restaurant retains the right to stop giving out new boxes, stop old boxes from opening and kick you out of the premises.

Velzard of Koz3 votesI feel you bro. My only chest was free coz of Fiora Normal Blind Midlane. Now I have one key but no chest because I am baaaaad plus play mostly ARAM. Then you hear about people getting chests whenever they can and feel like potato I am.
:D But If you are better than me, then go Normal (somehow broken matchmaking, aways against less experienced players so far) Blind (less counterpick potential) Midlane (usually not so broken squieshies unless you are against ranged controlled or Zed) with someone broken who can go Tank+Damage (like Fiora) and carry the rest of the team. You should be moving around A+ several games then hit at least S- (I had like three A+ games then S- with Fiora Midlane Juggernaut build). And that goes for free chest. I am not sure what Elo is required for such ease and whether there are any more such broken champions, but If you can master others (Jax, Irelia, Xin, Zed) in similar fashion (some of them wont work in mid) then you an get several free chests.
BTW than one chest of mine had Debonair Ezreal. Just low-priced fashion skin for champion I didn't even own :D But tis was completely free so no complaints

I'm grateful that I can get some rewards but I'm pissed that this system that was originally supposed to reward people for good behavior and reduce toxicity has instead turned into another cash grab scheme with key drop rates being so low you can never open all the chests you earn.

Right now I feel everyone is 2nd place and that when you add new features into a game they shouldn't be so damn frustrating like its just irritating. Only able to open one chest a month feels pretty frekaing bad.
