Both.Well actually cc doesn't need to go ,its just needs a counterplay. And by cc i mean displacements.

Damage magnifies the effectiveness of all CC. If there was no CC a lot of the champs in the game would have no purpose. Meanwhile a lot of champs can do other things than damage with the meta is making sense.

Damage is not the problem. CC is the problem but people are to stubborn to admit that

Crowd control can be avoided and even negated item 3111 item 3139 On the other hand, damage (most of it) cant be avoided. What can anyone do vs true damage and/or lethality? Not to talk about magic damage for which a tank has only 2 items which he can buy to reduce it (except if the enemy mage has item 3020 and/or item 3135

The only problem is that item 3231 / QSS is $1,300 and the full build $3,400 7th or so highest cost items for a 1 time 90 sec use vs abilities that are on a 5-15 sec cooldown.

I think that's pretty balanced. You use the QSS for when you need it the most.

I don't think it is when there's so much CC in the game/dmg/short games/no scaling.

90 second cooldown on QSS 40 seconds on Banshee's.

Most CC effects have 10 second or lower cooldowns.

They should buff Mercury Treads and bring item 3170 item 3172 to SR (Provided they can balance them for SR)

At least the majority of Tanks have crowd control affected by Tenacity.

Saianna37 votes

Not even close. CC is fine, damage is not, mobility is not.

6KEMBE4ORBA10 votes

Add CDR to that "it's not fine" list.

ModCaptainMårvelous17 votes

Not really.

CC has been an absolute mess since Riot leaned heavily into displacement CC and slowly gutted traditional CC (Stun, snare, etc) so now you have displacement lasting just as long as "normal" CC but the displacement moves them away. Which in turn creates an arms race of melee needing more tools to get in/stay in or a reward so utterly vast for getting in you basically auto-win if you get into melee range (Juggergods). So yeah, CC ends up leading to the dreaded mobility.

CC needs a total overhaul or, at the very least, some work on tenacity as a stat because Garen hitting 99% tenacity through runes, his kit and items means jack shit when he gets knocked over a wall.

Moody P16 votes

displacements aren't half as annoying as the fact that every other ability hits you with an 80% slow just for kicks

ModCaptainMårvelous4 votes

At least slows you can do something about.

Your counterplay to displacements are:

A.) lol jsut dont get hit by it dood

B.) Spellshield (Hope you're AP so you don't waste that huge chunk of AP)

C.) Having the dashes/summoners/absurd MS to completely negate the 600 unit knockback.

Moody P11 votes

in a vacuum, sure, not so much when all 5 champions have slows and thanks to 40% CDR being something you can just accidentally acquire the game might as well just take your movespeed the second you walk into a fight

Preach man nothing sucks more than getting hit by Khazix 90% slow (Stun me daddy) and moving slower than an unmounted Kled even with hecarim E active or whatever zilean speed up is.

Then people wonder why multi-dash champs are op when they don't sacrifice damage for it.

Saianna2 votes

That is true, but by no means CC is "the main culprit" of the whole mess we have. I'd love good old simple stuns be more common, rather than displacements, but well.. It's still not so ungodly terrible I'd say

Horse Grenades2 votes

Not even close. CC is fine, damage is not, mobility is not.

I agree, CC is ok. KNOCKUPS are not. imo

wildfox9T1 votes

i think that damage is overall fine,CCs make you feel like it's too high since you don't have the time to react in most of the cases the "high damage" could have easily avoided if you weren't standing still (because of the CC) and taking it,or you just don't realize how much it took for killing you because you were unable to do anything

if instead you want to bring X champ oneshoting you (many people would do it at this point) we are not talking about overall damage anymore but about a specific champion

Saianna2 votes

You know your whole thing you try to go with can be turned 180 degrees?

It's because of huge damage, CC somehow gets into the spotlight of the "bad guy", as you lose ability to defend or run away in this META filled with insta-kills.

wildfox9T1 votes

honsetly i think that if i'm chain CC'd for 5+ seconds and i die for that it's because of the CC being too strong, not the damage being too high again most of the "instakills" that we see could have been prevented if the victim wasn't CC'd and took a whole rotation without fighting back/dodging (i know that's not what it's causing this issue but let's take lux as example since what i'm saying it's more clear in this case, she have a strong burst but she wouldn't be able to instakill people if she couldn't CC them before her combo, just think how much damage she would deal without her Q snare)

sure when you are a squishy champ as long as you don't get ANY defensive item the damage fells really high, but when you start to build some defensive item (let's say item 3156 which allow you to take a full rotation from a mage/AP assasin and survive with no efford) and you see that they don't oneshot you anymore

when you build full glass cannon you oneshot and get oneshot, when you don't you can survive,i don't like it either but it needs to be like that or else any defensive item would cripple too much burst champions (mostly mages and assassins),so if you think that damage is too high reduce the power of defensive items and then we can reduce the offense as well

anyway as someone said before it could be both things, but (and i know i'll get a lot of hate for that) i'd rather play in a damage meta than a CC one, nowdays most of them are displacements so you can't even cleanse/QSS/reduce them, also they have way less counterplay than damage

once you got hit by a damaging only ability you can still try to dodge the next one or fight back, but if you get CC'd you can as well leave the keyboard, the next CC is guaranteed since you can't do anything in this moment even worse when they guy who's chain CC'ing you is someone who's playing really bad, didn't do anything the whole game and hard fed but yet can stop you because CCs don't need to scale with your stats or anything like that, while if you snowball a champ that only deals damage you make it useless for a while

OrangeMarine1 votes

CC is not fine giving the escalation of damage. While CC values have remained the same (besides nerf to a particular champ here and there), damage has effectively increased. (even if dmg has not increased in nominal value, it effectively has, since base resists have been nerfed (runes reworked), and gold generation has increased through many sources. More gold = more advanced item completion @ same level = overall higher damage.

So in effect, CC has become more powerful while remaining the same. Stunning someone for 1 second now removes their health bar and removes them from a fight. Often 1 second is enough to kill someone; 2 seconds immobilization is basically guaranteed kill now if there are multiple enemies present.

And no this is not how it always was.

rtbf2216514124 votes

Why not half of both? CC stacking an make you or your entire team useless. Damage is too high.

I played a Pyke game today, was doing well at first with what I had. Roamed mid around lvl 7-8 with 100% full health. Got hit with a sleepy bubble through the wall, 0.5 seconds later I was dead. (Zoe had only 100 ap, not even finished first item)

That was fun.

xDogMeatx2 votes

zoes damage is overloaded i feel even if a whole skill power is in 2 skills while her w skill can give her infinite summoner spells/utility assuming the item is on it. no damage should be that high at least veigar isnt as safe as her. her ult is free poke opportunity for her due to its initiate/speed advantage over the enemy. no damage should be all loaded into 1 spell or 2 if you add in true damage.

Literally played a game against a Zoe who I was able to dodge every ability of hers and died to her stupid W and auto attacks. Like, WTF. She casted like 5 Q and 2 E, ignited me twice, and flashed. Meanwhile I was Vel'koz and she ate one passive proc and literally only lived because I didn't have my ult since I was the support and she was the mid laner.

While he E is stupid (should be like half the sleep duration and the trap duration), I hate her W even more.

Why not both? [sg-lulu]

Kaisha3 votes

We need MORE hyper-mobility insta-deleteing champions. BUFF EVERYONE!!

SirGank2 votes

I find both to be a problem.

Damage is too high, leaving very little room to counter or making 1 mistake seem exponentially worse.

CC on the other hand doesn't seem like an issue at face, so it usually goes under the radar. If you get cced, you often end up being chain cced for much longer, as mid laners and supports already offer a lot of cc. Then a large number of top laners, junglers, and even some adcs offer lesser forms.

The easiest place to see this happen is in ARAM. I've been CCed for like 5s and more even with tenacity there, just cuz the layers of cc. (Ahri charm + morg bind / ult + varus ult). It is the most unfun thing to play against. In SR its probably not as bad since team fights start later into the game.

DemainaNyx1 votes

While I agree that CC chaining is frustrating to play with, that actually takes skill. The number of people who can't hit a stun on a GA'd or Zhonya'd target baffle me when they are literally standing in the same spot for 2 seconds giving ample time to prepare.

Damage being so high though is the reason that CC chaining is frustrating though IMO. Getting CC'd for 5 seconds sucks, but generally you don't even notice it because they kill you in 3 seconds. Eat a Lux bind from Fog and if you don't die from her someone else will show up to throw their combo at you. Worse part is you can't do anything about 90% of the CC in this game. At least with the Lux bind you can buy Merc's / QSS, but that Yasuo Tornado isn't reduced, neither is that Kayn W or Alistar combo.

SirGank2 votes

I actually have to disagree some what. Timing a CC on a zhonya or a ga does take some skill (at least learning the initial timing). No arguments there. Cc chaining on the other hand is about after the first cc has landed. I used to consider it as skill full since, if you layer them correctly, you can leave someone out of a fight indefinitely. But now-a-days, there's so many sources, that you can do the same thing even with sloppy layering.

The above example was something that legit happened to me in a game and does happen often. I play a lot of tanks so I actually do feel it and its very unpleasant. In the above example I was playing a poppy and I was extremely tanky. A teammate got caught out and I peeled for them instantly. The result was a morg bind, which in turn gave her team enough time for the GO lights to go offin their heads.i then got hit by a charm, which lead into a varus ult etc. Normally I'd be ok with that since I'm essentially tanking up all the cc. But that also in turn dissuades people from helping because no one wants to get cc chained. It spells death. People want no part of that.

Even when you buy mercs scim, its often debatable if you want to or not at the current time. Like, again a morg bind. If you don't cleanse it as an adc, you likely die immediately, and you still get cced after the cleanse often. This part I definitely agree with. The damage being high makes it more frustrating but cc chains itself are unfun. Its a long time that you have no control of your character.

unless you are talking about galio specifically, NO. Cc is fine damage is too high yes but ussualy not in 1st few levels. Its been worse early game back when Red pots for 200 existep.

Not really constructive way of expressing yourself. Maybe posting after a bad game wasn't the best idea.

That out of the way cc really isn't the problem, could be damage or not at all and you got outplayed. Can't tell because you didnt provide any info to back up your subject.

But what I can offer is if you're playing tank get tenacity to reduce effects if not and you're playing vrs heavy cc get cleanse or quicksilver.
