Actually, Vayne is about the only adc I would say that doesn't need to prioritize crit to do well; she relies very heavily on her ability to proc her silverbolts, so staying alive to proc those as fast and safely as possible is how I imagine Vayne should be played. She scales very well with attack speed, so I would actually consider a bork despite it not being in the best place in the world; its still an amazing pickup on her. Attack speed boots ofc.

From there there are a few options. One is to smooth her out a bit and pick up a shiv for pushing and waveclear. Shiv is weak atm, but its getting buffed in a few hours and might be a viable pickup again. Vayne does have a lot of trouble with staying safe (its her defining weakness) and as a result rapid fire cannon has found its way into a lot of builds I've seen recently. Another option is to push her dueling capabilities even higher with a phantom, but rfc seems to be the favorite for now. Either way, you are looking to pick up some more attack speed and some crit.

So now we are at 3 items. Next you are looking at what the enemy has built. Grab the last whisper if the enemy team has armor, you don't want your only meaningful damage on the guys that are running you down to be every 3 attacks, if they are getting a bunch of armor or if you know the one guy on their team with armor is going to occupy all of your time (If mao is going to be twisted advancing onto you in every fight, you're going to be dealing with him first, so best get prepared for that). Upgrade it to w/e it needs to be upgraded to later of course, but its important to consider the bonus armor pen now.

Once that is taken care of, or they have no armor, I like to opt for more sustain in the form of a blood thirster. Vayne is very limited by her 550 range and the shield, and the ls it provides, is really important in staying alive long enough to contribute in a meaningful way. I actually replace IE with the BT as far as "builds" would go, simply because I value the healing over the crit damage that I don't need as much due to the w. I'm also looking by now (or before now) to upgrade my boots (usually fervor) for the extra mobility in teamfights.

I'm also going to assume that if you go for the bt first, by the time you finish it it will be time for the lw. If their team has no tank then in the first place I don't know why you are playing vayne =p. But if you like her that much, you might want to double up on defensive items because chances are you have a LOT of people gunning for you with lots of damage (so basically get a ga because you're gonna need it).

if its a normalish game, now we are at 5 items (not normal being no tank on the enemy team). If the game is going super well, and Im super protected, and they have no chance of killing me, I'll think more offensive. This is where I would consider an ie, but another attackspeed/crit chance item just seems to make more sense on Vayne (probably phantom or rfc). If im not so comfortable with my situation, I would consider one of several defensive items. GA is always a good choice, but depending on that kinda threats you are facing, Maw could serve your purpose or a banshees veil. Spirit visage is also a good pickup and scales well with all the lifesteal on the build (the cdr is nice too).

If for some reason you are playing vayne in a role other than adc, I would also suggest a frozen mallet a possible pickup. I wouldn't get it last, because its not as useful in the late game teamfights as it is at picking people out on rotations, etc. The reason I think its a good pickup on vayne is because the slows allow her to reposition for better condemn angles, and it allows allies to keep up (remember, vayne gets a crap ton of ms when chasing enemies, and can leave her team behind a little too easily). It also puts some meat on her bones so shes harder to burst down. I wouldn't recommend it on an adc build for vayne because as the team's adc, its your responsibility to do as much damage as you possibly can do; mallet isn't the best option in this case.

i still get bork.. a lot of high elo vayne players will recommend still getting bork. but if you don't want that get rapidfire canon first.
