Thanks for raising visibility. We will be investigating this ASAP.

Uh. Wat.

This has been all over the Report a Bug board since yesterday.

Does nobody at Riot ever read there?

Jorencice40 votes

Damn man. The internet is getting more and more impatient.

Fucking 30 hours a good part of that overnight where no one is working and this supposed to be patched that fast...

JarvansWAR41 votes

Not patched, just disable Xerath until it's fixed. This bug is basically a free win, and that means it's gamebreaking

Glory ln Death19 votes

Meh, it's also a free permaban. Meddler confirmed a few hours ago that multiple people have already been hit with it.

JarvansWAR7 votes

But how does that reverse the LP damage done?

Chromatic Eagle13 votes

It doesn't? I mean has Riot ever given back lp?

JarvansWAR8 votes

No. They don't do that.

Automated Riven1 votes

Riot has done loss forgivens thousands of times

Sukishoo2 votes

That just stops you from losing it, not from what's already LOST.

BananaSlayerAMO7 votes

That's exactly his point. This problem has caused irreversible damage.

LordForrest9 votes

Uh, how is LP loss irreversible damage? You can earn it back.

BananaSlayerAMO5 votes

So it's not impossible to revert, just difficult. Riot can't give players their LP back.

Scripters have effectively stolen people's LP to climb up in rank, ruining their games. That's why this is a major problem.

The Taco Kat2 votes

People who deserve to be at a higher rank will earn it back. All that was lost was a bit of time.

Sraeg20135 votes

Time is a precious commodity.

Monkey King Enma3 votes

What does a perma ban mean on a smurf account? This happened to me today and the abuser was clearly a smurf, a perma ban on that account most likely means nothing and I lost LP for no reason. Disable Xerath

vOmvbrawfU11 votes

Not to be rude or anything, but why not just put a temp disable on Xerath?

Quepha4 votes

Not to be rude or anything, but why not just put a temp disable on Xerath?

Could be a lot of reasons:

Given that people abusing it are being permabanned, it may require third party scripts or some other kind of weird hack outside of the normal functions of the game. Those kind of requirements would drastically reduce the use of this cheat so the number of players affected by it are very slim.

The problem may not be just for Xerath, it could apply to a class of champion or even every champion, people have just only noticed the cheaters doing it on Xerath.

I'd like to know more because I'm interested in this stuff, so I hope Riot can give more information later, but sometimes they also hold onto this information if they feel that revealing it would create a big risk for more exploits.

o Eon O1 votes

For the love of god ban the main accounts of the people doing this. if you have to wipe out an entire university (highly doubt anyone from some university is participating in this) then do it. The people doing this need to be truly punished.

ThatKingMonkey9 votes

Would you want to be one of the League players at the University that cannot play anymore because one person used this glitch/bug? Probably not.

Sohleks6 votes

At this rate Xerath S grade will be impossible to achieve by fair play.

You'll have to reset or rollback that data too lol

Shit like this is why I don't consider league of legends a sport, it's only a game.

Because nobody cheats or finds exploits in sports...

SoundChaosDebug11 votes

Cheating would be like steroid, but this is straight hacking. No one hits home runs from the practice batting box for baseball. No one slam dunks in basketball while sitting in the side line chairs.

SzGamer22724 votes

If I stood by this argument, I wouldn't any sport a real sport because you can break the game by paying off referees. Just because you can't magically alter physics in real life doesn't mean there are ways to break a game.

The extent of the cheating doesn't mean anything. I could have trillions of dollars and pay opposing teams a ridiculous amount of money to throw games and give me free wins. It is possible to achieve the same level of "hacking" in real life sports. The only difference is that instead of dropping trillions of dollars to rig sports games, it's dropping however much money to get a hold of hacks that rig League games.

If you're going to discriminate one sport from another sport, you have to use a criteria other than how easy it is to cheat.

SoundChaosDebug3 votes

Paying people to throw a fight is not the same a hacking, the people who "Lose" on purpose still end up winning fincancially which is often why people try to "win" to begin with.

So if you get paid as much or more to lose compared to winning why fight against it?

If some one hacks with this xerath Q the "losers" are not compensated at all on this video game, hacking involves 1 party involuntary.

And if you're talking about paying off referees rather than paying off the sports star then some one still gains financially, riot isn't getting paid for people hacking on their game.

SzGamer22721 votes

The amount of arbitrary distinctions you're making is sincerely amusing. I can't get over how your justification for rigging sports games is that the losing team is compensated for their loss, as if that makes the cheating irrelevant. XD

Let's frame it this way. How cheating occurs is not what makes something a sport or not. If technology existed that allowed you to manipulate physics and break physical sports games the same way hacking breaks online games, would sports lose their "sports" status? I've watched a cartoon show for little kids where an antagonist has controlled the movement of the ball in a soccer game from the sidelines using a controller to score goals... I guess you would consider soccer invalid as a sport in this cartoon universe lmao

The definition of a sport is "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment". If you're going to claim that League of Legends isn't a sport, you must strictly define a sport as being a physical game, claim that skill is not involved in the game, or claim that it is not a competetive game. Cheating is in noways involved in how a sport is defined.

League is considered an eSport because it is a virtual skill-based competitive game. Hacking doesn't change any part of this definition that would otherwise disqualify it from being a sport. If you're going to be of the mindset that League isn't a sport, you need a new reason, or you simply need to accept that your opinion is completely arbitrary in its nature.

SoundChaosDebug2 votes

I am not saying league of legends is not a sport because of hacking and cheating, I am just flat out saying it's not a sport and the hacking and cheating is just a symptom of people playing competitive video games willing to win at any means necessary.

I would consider chess more of a "sport" than a video game and that's just a board game. Hell ping pong professionals is more of a sport to me than video games.

SzGamer22713 votes

Saying "shit like this is why I don't consider League a sport" in the context of a hacking fiasco carries the implication that you discredit League of Legends being a sport because of hacking.

Now we're getting somewhere.

So, do you discredit League of Legends being a sport on the basis that it is not a physical game, do you believe it is not a game of skill, or do you accept your opinion as being arbitrary?

SoundChaosDebug1 votes

Game of skill would require even playing fields, sadly due to servers not every one is on a equal playing fields from the start. Sure knowing mechanics and how your character works is 1 thing but a player in NA with 60+ ping is not on par with a korean who has 9 ping.

Skill and game mechanics can only get you so far, also not every one has the same computer specs so the "ability & skill" one can muster up severely is gated by more factors than what you're capable of doing.

Part of me sees this as a video game more than a sport because you don't do anything physical, you play sports and you're likely to improve in health and physicality minus any injuries you take.

You play league too long and you lose your health and physicality, you seen the guys dying in internet cafes in korea?

ChaoticPinecone9 votes

...Then you see the knee problems in the NBA or concussions in the NFL. Its not just broken bones or torn ligaments you see during the games - doing anything to an extreme over a long period of time is going detrimental to your health.

Some sports are about strength and endurance. Others are about skill and precision. Fishing, shooting, archery, billiards, and even dressage are considered sports - they dont really require much more than League physically.

Chembaron Yamada4 votes

Other example: Someone kidnaps the children of the players and blackmailing them to lose, otherwise he will hurt them.

The players didn't "volunteer" nor get compensated. The benefit is that they get their children back unharmed, which is the same status like before the kidnap which just happened to manipulate the game. So in the end, it is a loss if you compare the situation before the kidnapping and after it.

There are many ways to cheat in this world. How you are able to do it doesn't define if something is a sport or not.

SoundChaosDebug3 votes

If you look at all the people that make it to worlds they are all early 20 something year olds who play this video game 14 hours a day, they have no time for kids.

Chembaron Yamada7 votes

Replace children with parents, other parts of family, friends, lovers. Still excuses? ^^

steroids

SoundChaosDebug2 votes

Steroids isn't on the same level as this hack though, steroids will give you the advantage but the xerath hack will win every time.

If steroids meant that you literally win every time then the top 30 people in the tour de france would all of been first place every time.

people use to put objects in their boxing gloves during boxing matches

remember the deflated football fiasco?

there are ways to cheat in sports.

SoundChaosDebug3 votes

I am not even sure you guys are reading what I am typing, I never said cheating doesn't happen in sports.

Yes it happens, what you guys are saying is the xerath q is cheating sure but that is being too nice.

It is a hack, clearly 1 sided hack you will never have a chance to win against. You could be a cheater and still lose, all I am trying to say is in video games hacking > Cheating.

I never said that you can't cheat in sports, but you never get the equivalent of hacking in sports either in the same fashion.

Show me a professional sport where you walk onto the field and 1 team instantly wins while the other loses due to "cheating" it's not gonna happen because cheating in sports doesn't have the impact that hacking in video games has.

Feanix7 votes

People are reading what you're typing... but the consensus is that cheating is cheating. Doesn't matter matters if you've hacked a computer or artificially enhanced your body via steroids.

Kelly K13 votes

because people have never cheated in any sport before..

SoundChaosDebug3 votes

This is hacking, it's not on the same level as say cheating.

You cheat in the NFL and it's things like deflated footballs or with baseball it's getting the ball greasy and slippery so you can't bat.

This is literally sitting at the fountain winning flawless games, that's like you make it to the super bowl in NFL while just standing on your field goal.

420 grams14 votes

It's doing something against the rules to gain an unfair advantage. So yes, it's cheating. It would be like someone bringing a motorcycle to bicycle race. Yes, cheating in professional games doesn't guarantee a win like how this does. No, that doesn't mean what this is doing isn't cheating. Yes, it is something changing the system in game which is considered hacking. But hacking is the same thing as cheating in video games.

SoundChaosDebug3 votes

First of all I never said this was cheat, I claimed this was hacking which is worse than cheating. You still get an unfair advantage with cheats (which could just include in game character exploits that require no 3rd party programs) but hacking is a whole new playing field.

Cheating is an advantage but hacking is a 1 sided fight. I used to play combat arms and people would hack that game so bad you could stand still and knife every one on the enemy team for an instant win.

So yes cheating and hacking both are breaking the rules and that is not something you want in your game, I think your problem is you assumed I didn't consider cheating to be game breaking.

I am just trying to say that the xerath players are hacking and that is more game breaking than cheating.

Meanwhile all the nay sayers are using "cheating" as a comparative to the sports analogy but you don't get instant wins in real life sports like you can hack your way through video games.

SzGamer22712 votes

You need to get your definitions of hacking and cheating straight.

Cheating is an action or circumstance that puts one side in a competitive game at an advantage that is outlined in the rules as being illegal.

Hacking is the unauthorized manipulation of computer data.

Hacking is a means of cheating; more specifically, hacking is not cheating unless it is used to give one side an advantage in a competitive game, thus hacking in the context of this argument is cheating.

It's not bad, but definitely not optimal by any means because his main form of support, Q poke, usually pushes the wave. In addition, he's probably one of the worst mages for protecting his ADC.

I've seen it work, but I wouldn't take it into ranked as more than a niche pick.
