I am still not seeing how autofill is better then what we had in season 5.

Perhaps it is because i decided to have support as my backup position due to it often being open but it seemed to work itself out.

Autofill+role select taken together is probably strictly better than what we had in season 5, since you're going to get your main roles at least a little more reliably than season 5 where you could well get 5 people who all main the same role together. Even if people get autofilled into a big mess where no one has their main role, people are still able to talk to their team and try to organize roles as in previous seasons.

Role select without autofill is probably better still for individuals, but apparently this is better for the community on the whole. Or so riot tells us anyway.

Role selection appeases the idiots who are incapable of working with teammates to build a team comp and would rather have the game dictate what roles their teammates have to play. It's literally only useful for the same damn people who were the cause of all (their own) problems in the old champion select.
