Low on the Gold numbers

Just wondering. I have noticed that on the After Game Stats that I consistently show last or second to last on the gold count.... is there a tactic that I do to get the count up??

Its the last hit on the minions that scores the gold correct? running the jungle to kill the creatures isn't always possible when a team member could use help, and I find the wolf, toad like things and the birds things don't give up that much gold.
