Can someone explain to me why I am being matched up with higher elo players in Normal games?

On this account that I made not a while back (still a new account) I so far reached level 31, and ofcourse i'm unranked. But the thing I noticed lately is that as an unranked player I been being matched with Gold/Diamond/Platinum players. On my main account I am Silver (i'm not sure what the highest rank I could get since I stopped playing ranked, due to not enjoying it in general but that's another story) and even then on my main account I would never come across this where I get such unfair matchmaking.

Has there been a change in the normal game matchmaking system that i'm not aware of?

Because ranked MMR≠Normal MMR.

Hell, I'm not even sure Blind and normal Draft use the same MMR.

It's so that people don't get too afraid to play normals, because it'd screw up their ranked MMR, since that determines who you fight and how much LP you lose and gain.

That's not what I meant. On the contrary I wouldn't want to be matched with someone based on ranked MMR but I want to be matched with people at similar level as me in Normal games (like level 30 for example).

You have to blame the players for that. 90% of players don't try in normals and troll in normals, because it's not ranked.

So you have people who are bronze who try their hardest in normas while you have diamonds who just get drunk/high and troll out the ass in normals.

It's not riot. it's the player's mindsets.

  1. People who play a lot of rank will get their ranked MMR higher than their nomral MMR. For instance, if someone makes a smurf with the sole goal of having that account be in the gold elo range, they will get to level 30 then play mostly ranked, stagnating their normals MMR.

  2. People don't take normals as seriously and might have a lower winrate in it.

  3. Those people might be duo queueing with someone who is at, or lower than the rank that you are at. For example, if a gold is duo with a level 27, they will probably both end up in your game.

Riot keeps normals MMR and ranked MMR separate.

Riot keeps normals MMR and ranked MMR separate.

That's a good thing though.
