Meddler, can you please answer this about reworks?
When riot does a rework of a champ, let's call it champ X, that has A, B, and C as a part of their kit and themes and you decide to focus the rework on one of the aspects (the A aspect), what about the B and the C? What happens when you've got a group of people who like those other things in the kid and suddenly they don't have them anymore?
Is it really good for the game if B and C are removed entirely all the time?
Let's say I and a number of people like me like champ X because of the B and C aspects. They let me do things that I can't quite do with other champs or do them in a way that's either more fun or clicks with me more. Anyways champ X is reworked around A and now I've got this huge hole in my roster and I and a bunch of people like me miss doing those other things.
Why are those aspects removed, sort of, from the game entirely?
What I'm getting at is maybe when you guys do a rework that removes functionality from a champ, you create a new champ based on that removed functionality. Take Poppy. She's going to be a tank in the foreseeable future. Okay. What about her assassin players? Poppy is currently listed as an assassin. Her method of assassinating people isn't like LB. It isn't like Nidalee. It isn't as squishy or as flashy as Yi. It isn't quite that instaburst of Vi or the late game insanity of Jax (it's something in between the two if you ask me). It isn't exactly that I've just hit R and pentakilled your team like Katarina. Because it is lining up skill shots and spamming Q, it's different than Trynd AAing people with a shiv to death (close to but not quite that). It's certainly not the evil of teemopies.
In sort, assassin Poppy is like some of those other champs in some ways, but a unique flavor that combines different aspects in different manners. I mean with Poppy, there's kind of a cathartic glee in bashing an annoying ADC's face in with a hammer. I can't get that elsewhere. Sure, I'll grant you that Jax and Vi are close in this instance, but still they aren't the same.
Another thing I mentioned elsewhere is that Poppy is all a jack of all trades (that's her C aspect). She's one of the few champs in the game that I can pick and then just build as my team/game needs me to. Yi or Kha'zix can't go AP bruiser if needed. Teemo is not a tank (thankfully). Xerath and Ahri don't build AD heavily when your team needs them to. I mean how many other champs are viable as AD, AP, or Tank?
Another example I have is soraka.
Where's the mana battery/poke silence I used to have? I don't see any of the newer supports with that. Then there were people who loved her as a utility battlemage. I mean sure there's lux and karma and zyra, but again those are different champs with different themes and different abilities. The old Soraka didn't have a snare or a slow. The old one had that MR shred that your AP mid loved so very, very much. The old soraka had that nice E poke when you weren't using it for mana which was a great offset for her insane mana burn(which is still insane but now no longer offset). Don't get me wrong, there are great things about Lux, Karma, and Zyra but they had different forms and ratios of utility and different themes as well. Zyra may be a plant, but I've yet to see her grow a banana and then chuck it at someone. I mean of the 4 supports and 3 mids you guys released in the past 2 years, none of them really fill that hole that the old soraka left.
So what I'm getting at here is maybe when you guys do a rework that takes something off of the table and out of the game, wouldn't it be appropriate to ask yourselves if you need to put it back into the game in some other similar form on a new champ?
Assassin Poppy is gone. Isn't it worth it to look into how she assassinates people and if it is or could be unique enough to build a champ around? Jack of All Trades Poppy is gone. Isn't it worth it to see if you guys could add in another hybrid bruiser that can go full fighter or full tank? The mana battery/shut up slap is gone from the game. Can't you guys see if you can bring that back in a new champ? The old niche mid soraka is gone. Can't you see if you could bring in another utility ap bruiser that is less of a healer in a way that is a little more healthy for solo lanes?
