why don't more people play nautilus support?

I mean he's got probably THE MOST oppressive kit of any support, why is it people don't use him as much as blitz, thresh, raka, and so on?

if i had to take a guess (i'm not a high elo player, i might be wrong) it would be for the following reasons

  1. Nautilus is very immobile. Sure he can get somewhere with his Q, but otherwise he is slow as mud. By playing around walls and units you can make him considerably less effective. If he can't auto you, he can't snare you.

  2. His ult can be easily cleansed. This probably isn't that huge of an issue, but it is still worth noting.

  3. He's kind of item dependent. Nautilus is a top laner/jungler that has slowly drifted towards the support role, but doesn't fit in any of the roles super well. He doesn't have the raw utility of something like a Braum or a Thresh. He can be a damage threat if built properly, but that's not always the best.

a hook, stun, root, knock up and slow, seems like he's got more oppressive utility than the other 2

Yeah, but you should also consider that his alternatives (Thresh, Leo, Blitz) can interact well through fog of war and can use abilities through walls.

  1. Hook that is also his only mobility. A hitbox that his so fat that playing around minions is extremely easy for opponents. EDIT: also, can't be used through walls. That's pretty huge.

  2. A stun/knock up thing that is easy to cleanse

  3. An AOE slow that is relatively short range. (and slow moving)

Compare this to Braum

  1. Guaranteed stun passive, all he has to do is auto attack an enemy or hit them with Q. Also increases damage dealt to opponent.

  2. slow on Q

  3. gives allies resists on W + a jump

  4. movable wall that absorbs abilities and negates a certain amount of damage.

  5. AOE knockup and slow

EDIT: also, braum is a lot more relevant if they are both given a tight budget. Plus braum doesn't have like half of his kit based around dealing damage.
