The minion team advantage push is too strong for a team that is behind to create pressure in other lanes when pushing for a objective. In a game I had a 2/14 corki we were holding on pretty well but because corki was so behind the minions on the other team did 23% bonus damage to minions so I would push out top to only have to go back in like 45 seconds to have to push it again I feel this helps in laning phase to get cs but jesus have it disable the minions buff at like 20 mins.

I hate it when I leave it so it pushes back to me but it doesn't due to the insane dmg advantage, gg i lose creeps.

I just felt that controlling the wave was a great mechanic in league before they made these changes that you could use to gain a advantage over another player.
