Karma bugfix 5.5 confusion

I'm confused by the patch notes for karma. it says this:

BUGFIX Fixed a bug where allied champions were granted the inspire portion of the shield, instead of half of the defiance damage

Are they saying that her shield should be damaging allies instead of speeding them up?

No, the damage from the AoE from the shield gets converted to a shield for allies. But the bug was granting them the normal, unmantra'd shield

ah, the damage isn't converted its just the scaling and base are half of it. its just bad wording i geuss

yeah, it took me a while to understand this too, shouldn't have used the word damage in the description

so i understand that its saying that sometimes allies would get the inspire shield value instead of the R defiance shield value, but I'm still a little fuzzy on the two possibilities

cuz i know there has been an existing bug or error in the tooltip where it states that whoever karma initially casts the RE on should get a base + bonus shield value, the base being equal to the amount from inspire, and the bonus being the value from RE, and that all other allies in the AOE receive the bonus shield

now the bug was that the initial target wasn't getting the base + bonus, and instead just the base shield, and in certain cases this would be awkward because lets say you have 1 point in e, and 2 points in R, you would actually be giving a weaker shield to the person you click on than the people around who absorb the AOE shield, becuause the R value is higher than the E value,

i think the tooltip is trying to say that now the target either gets the base + bonus shield, or always gets the R value, still not sure which though

Yeah that has been going on long enough now. As of now, Riot still hasn't commented on whether or not the main target should get the base value plus mantra-ed value of the shield (ally).
