mordekaiser kinda reminds me of riven..
except morde doesn't have as much mobility, cc or damage.

Except Riven doesn't tank for shit.
honestly, riven probably absorbs more dmaage with her shield than morde does with his... and he has crippling health costs to boot.
Crippling early-game, assuming you don't take Spell Vamp quints/masteries, and I seriously doubt that Riven blocks more than Mord when Mord's shield passively has a higher capacity than Riven's if she has less than 500 AD.
Quints are probably a good idea, but I dun wanna run X/X/11(+?) Morde :c
Nothing wrong with not having 21 points in a set tree. If you don't want the mastery, it's fine; it's an effective difference of 1% Spell Vamp per monster hit.
But it seems like a pretty big downside for +2% spellvamp. If it was more... I dunno, useful? Impactful? :/ It's just hard to weigh that over 5% increased damage and 2% penatration. And it feels like 3% of your base damage is going to end up being 1-2 health in the early game...

The mastery is actually +3% Spell Vamp with full points, but yeah, it's not a huge amount.

But it does allow you to use a general set of masteries. You can take some in offense and defense instead of putting every remaining point in one or the other.
It's personal preference, and in the end, it's up to the player to decide how they build what they want.
Then that must be one horrible Mordekaiser.
"crippling health costs?"
yeah, that 72 health really hurts when you are shielding for 300 and heal your health for 200 with solely a revolver. (exaggerations to make a point, those "crippling health costs" are nonexistent. he has health costs. but its called buy a pot until you get spellvamp or use dorans shield)
how do you hit for 5000 with his E? 5k x .12 x .33 = ~ 200 hp you're talking about heck it needs to deal 1800 damage just to break even...(with revolver) but if you're shielding 300 you're dealing ~1700 damage to minions and healing even less than that 72
Riven's shield makes her tanky as hell. There is a reason she can dive into all 5 of your team and penta you.
Except she can't if I'm not a shitty player.
If she is fed at all (i.e. 2 or more kills over you), it really doesn't matter how good you are, you still die.
I got tired of arguing with you in another thread about this. You already know my opinion. Piss off.
Just trying to talk some sense into you. Looking at the number of downvotes you get on most of your posts, the majority agree with me.
Well, there are alot of idiots on the forum. (We) Look how far idiots running things gets anyone, so (we) don't let that happen.
Talk some sense into him? If Riven is so OP, why isn't she played/banned every game in the LCS? Oh yeah, because you're wrong.
Riven falls into the same category as players like Kat, Yi, etc. They are not played at the LCS level due to the fact that those teams have the actual coordination to shut them down. Outside of pre-made teams, it is very difficult to stop these champs.
In other words, it's because smart players and teams can deal with them.
What a surprise, LCS players aren't stupid enough to lose to these champions.
You do know that Riven has a 55.3% win percentage over the last month in Master tier right?
Play a champion with hard CC and tell your team to focus her, and avoid fighting without a numbers advantage. You'd be surprised how much a little communication helps.
"But, but that means I have to work with my team! How do you do that?"
The only problem I have with the hard CC thing is: What if the team you are facing has ANOTHER champion that requires hard CC?
You are completely screwed at that point. That is why more conterplay needs to be incorporated into the game.
Morde is a bad tank.
Oh, absolutely. He has no means to draw focus except for sub-par damage.
But Riven is a worse tank. That's all I was quantifying.
riven's a pretty decent 'tank' if you go for a bruiser build on her, with randuins and such, you have short cooldown aoe CC that can be very disruptive to the enemy's teamfighting, and spamming your shield with decent resists on top of it makes you hard to take down (it was better in season 3 when her shield lasted 2.5 secs long, with sunfire and randuins you could tank a tower forever without losing health)
She can soak damage alright, but not any better than Mordekaiser. And, unlike Mordekaiser, her damage is more dependent on scaling than base values and item effects. They both have decently effective bruiser builds when played right, but when it comes down to it, Riven does better with offense than defense, and Mordekaiser does better with defense than offense.
Except Riven actually has CC, meaning she's still a better tank.
She's a better distraction and a better disruptor.
I wouldnt call it sub-par tho. Individual scailing might not be high but its spamable and aoe, it racks really high dps if you leave him alone
spamable and aoe
I really couldn't figure out which one you were talking about here until you said "him".
But her mobility makes up for it.
I wasn't saying Mord is better than Riven, or vice versa.
I was merely stating that Mordekaiser, compared to Riven, is better at straight tanking damage.
I disagree, give riven a little time and she has
lifesteal and E shield rotations, Morde will stand there for your skillshot CCs to get him and kill him on the other hand.
Much of the popular
Qs
Es and so forth, Morde is dead. Riven will avoid these skillshots tank some damage and fight back when the CDs are back up, morde's potential is determined by how bad the enemy team is.
Riven's potential is determined by how bad the Riven player is, and how much TARGETED hard CC the enemy team has [ champion select ]
Riven is one fucking cancerous, abomination of a champion.

And Mordekaiser picks up Spell Vamp, has shield pretty much constantly coming in through his passive, has an Armor/MR steroid, and it's not any harder for a Mord player to sidestep a skill shot than it is for a Riven player to dash out of the path.
AP has stronger defensive itemization than AD, which also contributes to Mordekaiser being better at soaking damage.

Riven is one fucking cancerous, abomination of a champion.
You're making this statement in a thread comparing Mordekaiser and Riven, never mind that nobody worth a damn agrees with this opinion.
Mordekaiser has painful health costs to his spells, also are you telling me Mordekaiser is going to chickens post skirmish to heal his hp? That's delusional, spell vamp on mordekaiser barely negates health costs associated with his spells unlike
.
Normally one would say different champions different kits, but here goes. Mordekaiser's W is his primary defense mechanism aside from his passive which is conditional, reliant on enemy creeps & positioning to get the best out of it.
gets a shield with no condition + mobility + CC to deter the squishy factor. Where you can wait out
's W, you cannot wait out
's shields because she has the mobility and CC to force you into situations in her favor. If you're defeated by
, he did not outplay you; you outplayed yourself.
Riven's Q and E are easy mode skillshot dodging tools are what I'm pointing at; they have incredibly low CD and cost nothing. Therefore by nature of kit, it is much easier to land skillshots on
than on
.
What are you on about? Sure
has access to
, he is more likely to buy it than
, a superior defensive item
commonly buys. Itemization doesn't pay as much of a role as you suggest, Randuins will always outtank Zhonyas.
What I said doesn't necessarily tie the balance of the champion to the subject which you suggest, playing against a decent Riven is much like playing with a gate of hell.
Riven's shield lasts for 1.5 seconds, has a 6 second cooldown at max rank and can absorb 210 (+ 100% bonus AD)
Mord's shield decays at a rate of 3% per second, though so long as he has a target, he has a shield, it has no cooldown and can absorb 90 + (30 × Mordekaiser's level)
At lvl 18 his shield maxes at 630 meaning Riven needs 420 AD to match, feasible, but not easy. Even then, his shield has more up time and replenishes with each ability he uses. So long as he stays on a target and continues dealing damage, his shield combined with the spellvamp that EVERYONE builds on him means taking him down either requires catching him out and ganking him with multiple combatants or hitting him with lots of hard CC and ignite while you try to burst him down.
A fed Riven could take down Mordekaiser, but if Morde already has his
and
and there is no level difference, that Riven is going to have to HARD outplay in order to win that fight.
The calculation are biased towards riven for several reasons such as conditions to proc Morde's shield are tied to enemy positioning, creeps and Morde's spells. I've played Morde for over two years and I've never used spell vamp quints by the way, even if I main the champ why would I buy runes that would work on merely 1 champion when I frequently play about 20 ? Aside from your assumption here, I've played against multiple Mordekaisers at multiple elos and I have not even once seen one use spell vamp quints. Meanwhile 95% of Rivens I've played against had flat CDR in her glyphs.
It is worth noting Riven rushes CDR in form of items like
and
which easily rounds up to 40% CDR by midgame due to CDR in masteries and runes; netting a 3.6 CD shield dash which does not force full commitment in a fight like
's shield; fighting on her terms and forcefully shoving it down the enemy throat with her mobility + CC "fight me or die, and if you fight me you have to break my shield that has 2.1 second downtime if you decide to wait it out"
Riven is absolutely unfair, at least
's shield scales with how many targets he hits and means he is committing, one side is going to die in the end unlike
who can very easily run if the situation is not favorable.
It's not that Morde gets forced into fights.
Once he has
he's going to be forcing trades or pushing down onto your tower.
The scary thing about Morde is that as the game progresses, he only gets stronger, he doesn't have to get a ton of kills in order to be scary, he doesn't have to jump on squishies in order to try and catch up mid game if he falls behind, just give him time to farm and he gets scary. His built in tankiness means building damage is just fine on him, meanwhile Riven has to be smart with her shield, it's not until later on in the game that she can use it often and after having her health regen nerfed she has to be conscientious of her shield as it's her only means of surviving early harass without getting knocked out of lane early. Riven unlike Morde, relies on snowballing or else has to play catch up later on, even if Morde loses out early, give him some time to farm up and he's more than capable of marching into a team fight and throwing down the pain.
A lot of people love to complain about Rivens CC and mobility, but without them, she would be laughable.
Consider how scary Morde would be with both hard CC and mobility...
that would be the worst.
Q now has a .5 second knock up.
W allows Morde to blink to target ally affected by his shield.
R adds a 30% slow on top of everything else it does.
Do you hear that, all of SR just collectively soiled themselves. o.0
"Well if you give her a completely optimal scenario..." ... then she still doesn't out-tank Mordekaiser. Lifesteal isn't for facetanking unless you're stacking it or other healing sources on a grand level (IE: Aatrox levels), and even then you have to be able to actually hit for it to matter at all. It helps, but it makes you no more of a tank than an AD Carry. Morde is objectively better at taking damage. Plus if both champions get CC'd, Morde WILL tank that damage better, there are no ifs, ands or butts unless Riven is building so tanky that she does negligible damage for her assigned role, there's not even a case to be made for Riven in that discussion.
Riven is annoying, but she isn't the end-all be-all champion everyone wants to claim she is. She's great in pubs. She's a pubstomper - you mostly play in pubs, so you most likely get stomped by her. Most of us do. That's what the champion does. Incidentally, she doesn't seem to see a lot of tournament play... I wonder why? If she's so broken and cancerous as you claim, then surely her strength must transcend only pubs and be able to sustain her broken play outside of a brief window of time where she went mid, right?
Oh, she doesn't? She's just a pubstomper that can be easily dealt with at the level where it counts? Like Necrophos who had 60% win rate in pubs for months straight but was NEVER picked in tournaments before his buffs because he was easily dealt with where it mattered?
Oh, okay. So cancerous.
Point being: Riven isn't broken, she's just hilariously strong in uncoordinated playing environments. And if you pick in such a way that something like a Riven counterpick is able to bring your whole team to its knees, then, well, welcome to counter-picking. If you're gonna play MOBAs, then get used to it and quit crying if the same thing you can do is used against you to also staggering effect. And if they first-picked Riven and you had all the opportunity in the world to counter it, and she STILL rolls you, then well, I got some bad news for you and your allies.
Unrelated (but totally related), my list of words I hate seeing used because people have overused them so much that they've become near-meaningless and completely grating words: "Toxic", "cancer," "sheep." There's probably more but I haven't visited this cesspool recently enough to have them in my immediate memory.
Really? Is that why they recently nerfed her movespeed and ult missile speed? Because she's unfit to play in tourneys? Thank god, I thought tourney play was all that mattered for a moment. She doesn't have to be nerfed because she's competitively dominant, being dumb to play against is an entirely valid reason to tweak a champion.
Morde and Riven have very similar stats, in fact Riven has higher base defenses; HP: 558 -> 2020 VS Morde's 555 -> 1915. Morde has 24.9 -> 84.4 armor while she has 24.4 -> 78.8 armor. Overall, Riven is actually more tanky when CC'd so there is that fallacy.
I'm not giving her the perfect scenario, most CC in the game is skillshot/delay based while her kit excels at avoiding those. ADCs don't have splash lifesteal nor natural shields and untapped mobility to lifesteal through creeps ASAP to get back in; completely different scenario. I doubt you've witnessed many ADCs using lifesteal +
, it's quite ridiculous healing actually; could heal to full in ~5 seconds. Hydra gives comparable healing.
To suggest counterpicking is only valid when said champion has a lot of counters, Riven does not have a lot of counters actually. Most of them are risky and work halfway such as beat her early lose late
or beat her late get smashed early
or deal with her but she'll go wreck your team/split elsewhere
all while having that your champion is immobile, vulnerable to ganks while she has little to no risk; playing against her is extremely frustrating partly because she has all the tools to be successful in any given matchup while your "counterpick" champion has a lot of limitation. That should say a lot about her kit and balance state, even if numerically and in terms of winrate she is balanced; she should have more defined weaknesses for players to exploit as such with the majority of champions.
Hydra doesn't even begin to compare to BT+Runaan's, even if you're lucky enough to have a stacked minion wave or five champions all standing in your AoE.
For Riven to be tankier in the situation you laid out "Hydra + shield rotations" means Morde also had time to take action and had items of his own. Morde doesn't build "squishy at first, then a tanky item or two," he builds "a splash of defense and offense outright then some pure damage" meaning in that same scenario unless Riven is actively hitting someone that Morde will outright tank more damage. Again, there isn't an argument to be made. Their base stats are a factor, but not the whole story. Morde will never be less tanky than Riven - period.
Riven also has plenty of counters. She also has teamwide strategy counters. And I have seen an ADC with lifesteal + Runaan's, but you know what that only helps with? Enemies that are bunched up. Same for Hydra. Now we've also put an enemy positioning requirement on her survivability in addition to her own items, abilities and self-positioning. To that end, Mordekaiser again takes the tanky cake of the two because he has less of a requirement for their positioning. He didn't hit 3 with his E? Oh well, he still got a large shield from it. His didn't hit 2 with his Q? His enemy took bonus damage and Morde still got a large shield. They're constantly next to him? They're constantly giving him shield - small amounts to be sure, but it's still constantly being added. Then there's his ult for a large injection of shield straight to Mordekaiser. Riven has... her auto-attacks for life-steal, a shield-dash, and... that's mostly it.
Also, saying she's no-risk is pretty... well, it's pretty damn wrong. Her risk is exactly why she isn't picked in tournament play. In many lanes she loses hard or wins hard. There is no going even, and in a 2v1 scenario, which is easy for an enemy team to put up, she WILL lose that lane. "But what if the jungler ganks for her?" They have a jungler, too.
Riven is very risky, the problem is that in pubs very few people put her into a stressful enough position that her risk matters. Again, she's a pub-stomper. Why should I care what a pub-stomper can do? Have you ever picked a Nasus into her? She lost all kill potential then and there. Rumble top? Now she can't even farm safely, AND Rumble can take on a 2v1 in competitive play. Not only that, but Rumble scales hard as well, and can be a teamfight monster. To say she has little-to-no risk means to ignore gameplay elements outright to make your argument sound better.
And since it's not impossible to put a Riven behind, you've probably seen a scenario where she makes a comeback later on, right? Y'know, those exact same comebacks pretty much everyone can do, but with even less risk than her because they don't all have to play like as a mediocre-damage melee assassin with telegraphed entry when they're behind. And yes, when she is behind her damage is mediocre. To also bring up those moments where she makes that comeback ignores the many, many other times where she is unable to make that comeback and remains shut-out and shutdown.
Riven has risk, but very few people put her in a situation to abuse it. Riven is not tanky, she is barely scraping by unless she's ahead - but then she's ahead, so what did you expect? Riven is not adverse to risk-taking by nature of her kit, because her kit encourages her to be in risky situations in the first place. She has her counters, you and your allies need to work together against her. Why? Because she's part of their team, and you should all be working together against their whole team. Countering one champion may not be as simple as countering another. Riven simply requires more teamplay. Nothing wrong with that.
the optimal morde build(IMO) after his tweaks is(not necessarily in this order): WotA, Ludens, Sorc shoes, rylais, liandrys, deathcap
Sounds a little squishy for me, but if it works for you I could try that sometime when I run Morde. Always open to build suggestions for various champions :D My own ideas, even in those times you need to adjust your build situationally, may not be what's best even for that moment, y'know?
