before literally anything breathing took lethality, ninja tabis were completely fine. they don't need nerfs for lethality users to do dmg.

It's literally Rammus all over again. He wasn't too strong, he still isn't too strong. But when you build a full AD team comp and go up against a Rammus who is literally designed around beating AD Champions, you're not going to have a good time.

Steel Blossom4 votes

Thought Riot didn't want these "win in champ select" things to happen?

Limrick19 votes

If your team is 4 ADCs like it was when Rammus was good, you deserve to be punished.

EndlessSorcerer40 votes

While picking certain champions isn't an instant win or lose, picking a horrible team composition (or being countered appropriately) can be.

If a team decides to pick 3+ ADCs against a team with Malphite and Rammus, they deserve the suffering they will soon endure.

I actually lost to a 4 AD marksman team the other night as Taric with 450 armor. You'd be surprised how quickly you become worthless as a tank when you can't focus more than two of the 4 targets you need to. They pretty much negated my entire armor pool with LW and BC. Do not nerf Tabi.

And you know what's funny? I say this all the time to various people on various outlets, and they never understood it. At least someone else does. Maybe you'll understand, too, why I hate the Galio relaunch.

Sexy Jack Rabbit3 votes

To be honest I REALLY love Galio's new kit. It looks super fun to play, use and see.

But his design is SUPER Boring, Bland and Lazy.

The original Galio was the stereotypical dumb gargoyle cliche flipped on it's head, so he was somber, intelligent and wise.

Instead he's now another big dumb arrogant brute with an obsession with punching. The old Galio was so nice to see and hear, the new one is just Malphite and Garen's baby.

I LOVE The Gameplay team on VGU's, but the design teams always suck at their job.

ForeverLaxx3 votes

I'm not really talking about the entirely new Champion they're releasing and just naming him Galio so they can delete the old one. I'm talking more along the lines of a removal of an insurance policy. Rammus was supposed to be your insurance policy against full-AD teams and Riot nerfed him when it was finally his time to shine and remind all those AD why building a team full of them was a bad idea. Galio is supposed to be that check to AP, but now that check is gone. Granted, AP never really got to the point where building a team full of them was a good idea since the majority are built around burst vs sustained, but the fact remained that Galio was our mage counter. Not anymore, though.

Every champion has become more and more self sufficient and less team-reliant to function and I also think this is a bad direction. But that's a topic for another time.

Sexy Jack Rabbit1 votes

At this point League of Legends is no longer a traditional MOBA, for better or for worse. So including things such as pure counters to other team comps (Like in DOTA) is not something that's really going to happen anymore.

ForeverLaxx2 votes

It's more the end result of very early design decisions in League's infancy to allow "everyone" a chance to carry. Everyone scaled with items and was expected a base level of income to allow impactful purchases. Dota doesn't have that kind of assurance and makes sure there are heroes who function on a shoestring budget without becoming too much of a nuisance if afforded more opportunity for gold (at least, before the Level Tree was introduced). In short, they didn't want players to feel like they had no impact on the game, even though a "ward bot" usually contributes more to victory than anyone else, as vision really is that powerful in this genre.

When you design everyone to scale, this is where you eventually end up. Champions start relying on their team less, are more able to generate gold for themselves, and afforded more opportunities to carry the game. It was pretty clear, even in the beginning, that the original Riot developers didn't like the "pick support, buy wards all game" role and wanted everyone to play something that could build other items and "have fun." That view has been taken to the extreme in recent years, though, and it's showing with all these reworks/re-releases/new champions.

nods the problem is not the boots, it is how much ad damage is in the game that literally makes these boots more valuable then CDR, flat reduction to stuns and slows, ect ect.

Its more amazing we're not seeing even AP champions grabbing item 3046 to boot to restrict all that damage spike, With one of the best ways they could fix the early game snowball is just force Lethality to be unable to puncture armor past a certain value (i'd say 20 would be a fair number considering going any lower tends to tumble into ridiculous % gain per point o armor reduced).

If they really want it to be a proper anti-armor stacker mechanic then they just need to force it to lean more to being effective against high armor stackers and less effective against little to no armor stackers, easily would of been solved if they just converted flat armor into a armor % schimick that may even gain more % armor pen depending on how much armor a target stacked up.

[slayer-jinx-unamused]

With Magic pen, its more understandable for alot of AP based champions to do strong damage, where AD champions tend to have reliance on attack speed and critical chance for a good deal of them to work their own damage, yet the % armor pen outside of the red mastery effect i see touched alot less compared to a AP picking up item 3135 as a final touch to wrap up a AP damage build.

Lethality is meant to be strong against squishies who only have their base armor, not against armor stackers.

INoble KnightI2 votes

Yet armor stackers get deleted by lethality builds.

Glory ln Death3 votes

Armor stackers get deleted by Lethality + Last Whisper builds. And it still isn't really "deletion" until there's a Black Cleaver thrown in.

But once it gets there, ADCs get the build that kills everyone equally.

And it is horseshit.

I was once Rammus against an all AD team. I lasted maybe 2 seconds tops in teamfights.

Mecha Incognito1 votes

It's a nerf that will need to happen eventually though anyway. I'm sure they're planning to reduce the effectiveness of lethality and if/when they do, tabis will be ridiculously good, and would need nerfing.

It's just a bit early, they haven't done enough to lethality to justify it yet.

Meritas19 votes

How were tabi OK for so long time then, even before the rise of ArPen/Lethality?

Parceval3 votes

It's exactly the same for exhaust... they already nerfed that because of how much lethality shifted the meta. Don't tabis, your time will come.

TheSingularity3 votes

They nerfed it because no one was taking ignite, riots 2nd fave summoner spell. And for the same dam reason. There's too much dmg so why take ignite when exhaust is more useful in non 1v1 situations? They gonna die from ur stupid dmg anyway

FTWolf1 votes

Not really exhuast is a defensive spell and it was lowering the targets armor mr movespeed dmg, and attack speed lmfaoooo

PB4UAME1 votes

Those things all got there through a series of RIOT nerfing one aspect, then making part of it into a different effect all together to compensate for lowering the initial aspect in the first place.

Originally it slowed and silenced, then they determined the silence was OP as it shut everyone down so they made it a blind and slow, with the hopes of shutting down late game carries for a few seconds so that your team could CC chain and focus them down before they melted your team. Well, the blind countered their beloved ADCs too much, so then we get patch 1.0.0.108

Now reduces (auto/basic) attack damage by 70% and ability/item damage by 35% instead of blinding for the duration.

Okay, so now Exhaust slows, reduces ability damage by 35%, reduces item damage by 35% and reduces basic attack damage by 70%. It was nerfed in its primary goal, and still allows those farmed late game carries to pump out 30% of their DPS during this duration; to compensate this, all ability damages are lowered by 35% making exhaust more target agnostic.

Fast forward 44 patches (or 23 months) to 1.0.0.152 and Exhaust gets changed around again.

Movement speed reduction reduced to 30% from 40%. New Effect: Now reduces attack speed by 50%. New Effect: Now reduces all damage dealt by 30% from 70% for attacks and 30% from abilities/items

Here what they tried to do was improve clarity by not having different % damage reduction values, and nerf its effect as seen by the 35% -> 30% reduction, and reducing the slow; which was important as only the highest slow applies at any time, and the meta then was influenced by items having 30%, or 35% slows so making exhaust into a 30% slow meant it was never more powerful than those other slows including ones by Randuin's, Frozen Mallet (this was in fratmogs season) and Rylai's and so basically ceases to exist as soon as one of those slows is applied

They still wanted it to be an anti-late-game-carry spell, so they replaced the additionally damage reduction with an attack speed slow. Now, originally the attack speed slow was actually stronger than the damage reduction that was removed, making the net change on an ADC 10% more movement speed for 10% less auto attack DPS during Exhaust, and making non-auto reliant champions better off with lower damage reduction and a lesser slow.

Three years ago they inverted the numbers, and bumped up the cast range.

Attack speed cripple reduced to 30% from 50%.
Damage reduction increased to 50% from 30%.
Range increased to 650 from 550.

Eight patches later, in 4.13 we get this.

Damage reduction reduced to 40% from 50%.
New Effect: Now reduces the target's armor and magic resistance by 10.

Where RIOT realized 50% damage reduction was a bit too high, and it was starting to be a tankier meta, so they slapped a resist shred on to compensate for the nerf.

Exhaust was originally an offensive spell that became so good at preventing retaliations and escapes that it was redesigned to counter late game ADCs. Since then it has only been spread out to more and more targets until it has the wide variety it has today.

Exhaust went untouched since July 30th, 2014 and has been completely balanced this entire fucking time. The recent changes were not necessary, and you are mischategorizing the purpose of this summoner spell.

Also, they've nerfed ghost multiple times for competing with flash, and change exhaust when it gets picked more than ignite with seemingly random changes that they even go the opposite direction of in the next round of nerfs/buffs. All told, I'm inclined to agree with KrakenKnight.

FTWolf1 votes

Not really, flash and ghost serve a purpose, but if a spell gets chosen for the purpose that the other is supposed to fill, it will get nerfed. Why even take ignite when you can take exhuast and have the same effect + SOME MORE STUFF which one sounds better? Ofc its exhuast why not do some more dmg to someone, but they do a lot less dmg to you in return. it's obviously going to be the exhuast.

PB4UAME1 votes

Ignite actually does damage, it is true damage, it reveals and marks the target and applies grievous wounds. Out of all of that, the only similarity shared with exhaust is marking the target, albeit in a rather different manner.

Exhaust worked as a slight damage amp, if you really wanted to try to convert the amp into EHP negated then it would be 1/10 * (target max hp) less pEHP and mEHP, but that still is in no way actual damage.

In comparison, both ghost and flash provide utility through movement and nothing more.

FTWolf1 votes

Youre looking at it as just raw dmg, but it is more about utility, exhuast vastly outscales ignite. Exhuast provides much much more than ignite still even after the nerf.

its almost as if they have overdone it on the tank killing, and any form of durability you build becomes entirely worthless as soon as the enemy spends like 3k gold, so people dont bother with building defense anymore and now we have a game full of burst stacking assassins. adc arent meant to burst the shit out of bruisers and tanks and turn them into paper. theyre supposed to counter them with sustained damage over extended fights by positioning and moving properly while attacking from range.

20 armor is nothing, with how armor works, they will still do 0 damage. (Well, LW changes may have changed that, so I'm not too sure.)

Unless they're an ADC who is strong mid game. But then they should be killling them.

  1. Jhin doesn't have sustained damage, he's burst based.
  2. Didn't Varus and MF both just get nerfs because they were OP? Oh, and what was nerfed again? LW? No, that was buffed. It was Lethality that was nerfed. Also... Lethality MF and Varus was just flat out OP. I don't see anyone complaining about Jinx or Sivir shredding tanks too quickly.

Yes, however, given the current burst meta, if ADC's couldn't burst, they'd be useless. Let's reduce the damage first, including ADC's as well as assassins, bruisers, and mages.

20 armor is nothing,

20 armor pen is more than 20 lethality until lvl 18. and im just talking about a chain vest. you can add penetration to armor from runes and masteries to that.

yes, thats what i said. jhin, mf, varus. even the adc that are played right now are bursty lethality stackers.

so the solution is to nerf resistances even more? the only reason burst is so good is because armor pen is too strong, and defenses are so cost ineffective.

so everyone just builds damage, since you get 100% out of your gold investment, instead of dumping all your gold into stats that enemy bypass with 2 items.

the answer to a burst meta would be to reduce damage, not increase it by nerfing resistances.

I don't think this is correct. They do more against AA based adc's then spell based ones. The armor they give is the same as 2 cloth armor but the main thing they do is 12% damage reduction against AA's.

Both parts provide protection against AA based adc's but only the 30 armor provides protection vs abilities which isn't very much.

That being said I don't think that nerfing the boots is a good move because it just limits options people have against ad comps in the long run.

Tusutaki3 votes

Im just going to post what I posted on the video.

So much disinfo and exaggeration on Nina Tabi in this video holy hell.

  1. Tabi does not reduce On-Hit damage so MF's Love Tap passive damage does not get reduced. That includes BOTRK's passive, Fiora's Vital Points, and Irelia's W that you were 99% sure about. You saying it blocks abilities is not only misleading but a complete strawman. It only blocks Basic Attacks and Basic Attack Modifiers.

  2. "you're spending 800 gold to take away 6k of theirs" is an absolute over exaggeration. While yes you're blocking 30-40 lethality but you're sure aint blocking all that damage and dusk blade proc. So in reality, Ninja only takes away 600-800 gold from them. So its pretty even. In other words, it does its job.

  3. Tabi's Passive does not gain more value as you gain more armor. INSTEAD it loses more value the more armor you receive. Lets say you have 100 armor which equals 50% physical dmg reduction. Ninja Tabi's passive is 12%. Based on how Riot does calculations, both combined will only block 56% damage. That is literally half of Tabi's Value. Like Doran's Shield's block, it loses more value the more you gain resistances.

  4. Google lolwiki next time.

WoonStruck2 votes

Reductions are multiplicatively more powerful the more they are stacked on a 100-0 scale.

For example, if you have 90% reduction, adding 1% to that may seem like a little, but you're still reducing the damage you would have taken by 10%.

12% is 12%. No matter what. Damage reduction does not get less effective the more of it is stacked. The problem is % penetration in the game, not the efficiency of stacking armor/damage reductions.

For example: Stacking MR still completely fucks APs, even with Void Staff. There's a reason that isn't an issue with armor.

IronWraith5 votes

Yeah, the only reason why ninja tabis is gaining popularity is because of all the AD teams being played. Before all the lethality crap, tabis was in a fine spot. No reason to nerf the item when it's just a reaction to the players playing the very popular AD champs such as Jayce, Graves, etc. Don't want lethality becoming a bigger problem.

It isnt even just combating lethality users. It is how insanely low non-lethality users dmg is when this item is purchased. Any auto attacker gets hurt massively by these boots. Just so happen that many and almost all of the lethality abusers are also autoattackers. Why would an ADC ever in a million years want to try to fight a Nautilus or Maokai alone? They are tanks MEANT to murder ADCs. How you beat them is with help. That is like complaining how you lost to a 1v1 vs a Jax or Fiora when they are made to be 1v1 champs.

The reason they were nerfed is simply because Riot is lazy and or stupid. Its basically no different than Rammus being nerfed. He wasn't a good pick and people didn't even know who he was. But during the 3+ ADC meta or full AD meta he came back above ground since hey....his sole purpose is to counter AD. But since that isn't allowed with Riot, they nerfed Rammus when he was already basically garbage, and nerfed Thornmail to its even more pitiful state if I recall right. And Thornmail was already kinda garbage to begin with, only Malphite and Rammus truly ever bought it. Or against teams dumb enough to go full AD.

Its no different with summoner 3 being nerfed. There was NOTHING wrong with the spell, damage in the game was too stupidly high, it did the same thing since it came out basically, and suddenly its a problem since League of 1 hit kills suddenly couldn't 1 hit kill since people realized that spell saved them. Riot instead of being smart and knowing that it was a counter to stupid high damage and leaving it, nerfed it for no reason at all. It was barely even overused anyways, at most I saw 2 on a team, but ya know, that isn't allowed seeing as 4 summoner 3 in a game isn't alright but 10 summoner 4 is.

And that is exactly why the tank update is occuring. Tanks are all losing damage and gaining innate number buffs to tank stats. Tanks are not to supposed to be able to kill anything. Tanks are supposed to stay alive and soak everything like a wall of iron. League is the only game that has tanks that can 100-0 an adc in one rotation of spells. I don't think they can kill an ADC in 1 combo. But yeah, anything should be able to kill ADCs not late game, moreso tanks since they get their most power basically as soon as their first full item and during midgame. Should Naut or Mao kill a full build ADC? If the ADC is bad perhapes but overall ADC should murder them that I agree with.

ADCs are squishy after all, it doesn't take an Assassin to kill one, they just do it the quickest.

Also you are saying something is wrong with the game is a tank, something that is at its strongest during the mid game can beat an ADC, which is the weakest in the game til lategame is a problem? There is a reason you want to get the ADC fed if possible, since they are balls worthless til then since autos are garbage early on. Like I hate when I get killed playing ADC as well, but at the same time its my fault if I let a Mao walk up to me.

The issue if they outright gut all damage of tanks is they get ignored which is even worse. Why you think things like Mundo are kinda a joke, sure he can deal damage due to his kit and if he builds some damage, but since he has no real cc he can be entirely ignored. So what will happen is more carries will be top, would you rather have it more snowbally when Yasuo, Fiora, and ADCs rule top again? Since tanks are the things keeping them in check.
