you want mobility creep? because thats how you get mobility creep.

mages with dot, short cooldown, and/or aoe abilities who are many right now, are using rylais to completely shut down champions without obscene amounts of mobility in their kits. if theyre really encouraging permaslows and make the item into an even better option for medium/long ranged mages who are already loaded with cc, then it will be impossible to play anything else but fizz, zed, yasuo and similar champions who can compensate for being slowed with long ranged hard gap closers.

Hell, they should just nerf the slow and make the item a situational defensive option. I remember season 3 and four where AP champions weren't actually building perma slowing items and relied on their own kits to outplay their opponents.

exactly.

It should really only be a major item for champs who lack consistent stickiness, like Vladimir Mordekaiser Rumble and Swain because his root is god awful early. But I saw it on a Viktor yesterday, he wasn't amazing, but Rylais made it impossible for anyone without lots of MR unable to deal with him. I also saw it on Cass and I literally wanted to AFK because of it, but I didn't even with every bone in my body saying "FUCK THAT SHIT, GET YOUR MACHINE GUN SLOWS AWAY FROM ME"

dEAdbUs2 votes

Swain doesn't need rylai and never needed. Saying it like brother of Swain main.

maikokk1 votes

sorry, but if an item makes you inescapable as an immobile champion, you'd be retarded not to build it. even if the case for swain not needing it could be proven, it still ignores the fact that it gives him an advantage. you cant ignore free advantages and expect to do your best. and yes... rylias slow is statistically free compared to its AP and health values.

dEAdbUs1 votes

Historically Swain needed RoA as fisrt item. Nothing changed after MYMU. But after tons of nerfs he strongly needs cdr, otherwise his ult takes forever to recharge. And there is no way yo buy Rylai before RoA or cdr. After that Swains buy Zhonia. So I don't see when you can buy Rylai.

maikokk1 votes

you dont need cdr. I take CDR runes on him but thats because im bad. most good swain players are entirely uneffected by the ult CD nerfs because they dont ult at the wrong time

dEAdbUs3 votes

In s3 we didn't have black cleaver, deadmans plate, yasuo, ludens. Right now we have soooo much mobility. Mages just react. When game is based on dash/dodge/skillshots mechanics, players motived to use something that helps to hit mobile targets by skillshots.

Keti1 votes

The item would be fine if they just knocked some AP off of it. It has a niche it should be filling but it gives so much AP you sacrifice nothing for the survivability and utility it gives so it's core on everyone.

dEAdbUs1 votes

I think there is just no alternatives for Rylai. In mobility creep meta, after mymu when most mages lost their burst or became full combo dependant, and most defensive items were nerfed, Rylai is just like blessing for mages. Neft Rylai and we can say goodbye to mages. Unless after update assassins will lose their ability to burst too.

RogueWill5 votes

They are also shutting down champions without mobility even harder thou. Brand vs Annie used to be a skill match up. Brand had better range but he needed a skillshot to land his CC. Now he just clicks on you with his dot and while you are slowed to oblivion he can stun you and full combo from there.

Suuuuure, that's what's keeping the beginner champions in the gutter. Not red buff, not mallet, not IBG, it's the mid laner when you start playing ARAM after 20 minutes.

You're also aware that Rylai's is part of why Fizz, Zed and Yas are so bad midlane, right? They can't burst you down nor can they get in range to click on you (and if they do, they can dodge like one ability.

red buff is windowed. iceborn gauntlet is not bought on champions who have already tons of ranged cc in their kits and use it to slow you from a distance.

the only one abusing it like that was ezreal, and he alone got the item nerfed multiple times bcause of it.

ashe was the first champion who started the entire mobility creep in the game due to how ridiculously broken her permaslow used to be at the time.

riot started to make more champions with mobility, because the ones that have been existing werent able to deal with her permaslows anymore. and riots solution for every problem back then was releasing a new champion every two weeks.

rylai right now is doing exactly the same. people THINK that rylais counters mobility, when the item hits slower champions unproportionally harder than mobile champions. because while zed, fizz, ekko, riven and other very mobile skirmishers and assassins are affected by the permaslow, they have at least some way to compensate for the fact that theyre slowed.

slows dont stop dashes, jumps and blinks. fizz can still trollpole in your face and follow with his q dash from long distance when hes slowed. riven is still going to bunnyhop around and dash with her e.

but immobile champions are entirely fucked by the constant passive slows. they might aswell be snared throghout an entire fight.

this means the fact that rylais is built everywhere and mages are permaslowing opponents, forces mobile picks since it invalidates the immobile champions.

Preeeetty sure that was in conjunction with the IBG-Sunfire abusers.

Yeah but that's still pretty useless if they can't get in range.

Heck, if the slows prevent them from juking around if they reach you, they're fucked regardless.

but immobile champions are entirely fucked by the constant passive slows. they might as well be snared throughout an entire fight.

Not entirely true. Whatever they have in place of mobility, which will usually be some form of CC or steroid makes them a better splitpusher than a mobile pick. Furthermore, it let's them contribute to teamfights more reliably, whereas mobile champions have to dodge things or make picks.

Also, (homeguard) TP makes every toplaner incredibly mobile and put up an insane amount of map pressure. Regrettably, they're balanced around that now.

this means the fact that rylais is built everywhere and mages are permaslowing opponents, forces mobile picks since it invalidates the immobile champions.

You mean aside from midlaners? Trundle Olaf Skarner

preeeetty sure the item got nerfed because of ezreal a long time before this season.

only from seing him on the forums. but ai started playing before even season 1, and i can confirm that this part is actually true.

Yeah but that's still pretty useless if they can't get in range.

Heck, if the slows prevent them from juking around if they reach you, they're fucked regardless.

did you even read what i wrote? they can use these abilities to get in range despite being slowed. because of this ranged permaslows hit slow champions unproportionally harder than mobile champions exactly for this reason.

whatever you do to a mobile champion to slow him down completely nails a slower champion to the ground and prevents him from acting at all.

this causes champions without obscene amounts of mobility to be pushed out of the meta.

Not entirely true. Whatever they have in place of mobility, which will usually be some form of CC or steroid makes them a better splitpusher than a mobile pick. Furthermore, it let's them contribute to teamfights more reliably, whereas mobile champions have to dodge things or make picks.

then why has the game seen less and less immobile picks since the mage rework and their play and winrates have been crashing into the ground?

claiming immobile champions are generally better splitpushers than mobile champions is rdiculous in the first place. champions with high mobility and duelling potential can usually splitpush better or just as good than slower champions.

its not uncommon for assassins to start splitpushing by mid and lategame and looking for picks while roaming between lanes.

Also, (homeguard) TP makes every toplaner incredibly mobile and put up an insane amount of map pressure. Regrettably, they're balanced around that now.

EVERY top laner. mobile and immobile, which makes mobile picks still superior in the face of permaslows.

You mean aside from midlaners? Trundle Olaf Skarner

of which only olaf is picked right now due to his ult. i dont know if you noticed, but the top lane meta shifted to ranged champions.

Mobile champs are kept at arm's length with the slows forcing them to use their mobility in an obvious manner. Using their mobility will get them closer but rarely right to you. Once they use their mobility, by your logic, they're "rooted (while slowed)".

this causes champions without obscene amounts of mobility to be pushed out of the meta.

The melees without mobility are few and far between. Even less when you take out the beginner champions. After which the word "obscene" becomes arbitrary.

then why has the game seen less and less immobile picks since the mage rework and their play and winrates have been crashing into the ground?

That had nothing to do with it. Kayle, Karthus or Cassio had been dominating toplane ever since the Fiora nerfs.

claiming immobile champions are generally better splitpushers than mobile champions is rdiculous in the first place. champions with high mobility and duelling potential can usually splitpush better or just as good than slower champions.

Excluding Trundle, I suppose but yeah, I kinda tunneled on him.

its not uncommon for assassins to start splitpushing by mid and lategame and looking for picks while roaming between lanes.

And for beefy toplaners to laugh in their face ain't uncommon either.

EVERY top laner. mobile and immobile, which makes mobile picks still superior in the face of permaslows.

Mobility isn't a win button. When you're running at the enemy team with homeguards, mobility can become redundant when terrain isn't in the way.

iirc, runeglaive ezreal was partially so broken because the runglaive aoe damage applied spell effects, meaning ez could apply spell effects with his q, like luden's and shit...

I think it's good as it is doesn't really need a change.

Malicious Metal6 votes

Well, Riot thinks otherwise.

They're either going to: A) Change it into a high damage AP/CDR/MANA item (which would only further promote burst champions and other "abuse cases" to buy it) and it may just make Morello's obsolete

or

B) Chipp off some of the excessive AP and slow and further cement its niche as a tankier utility OPTION

option A wont make morellos obsolete. thats the really bad part.

this isnt goign to be a tradeoff in any shape or form. lets say theyre putting 20% cdr on the item.

item 3165 item 3116 item 3089 item 3135 item 3020 item 3003 thats 40% cdr, a fuckton of ap, and standart magic pen. the large amount of mana will even make the aa shield really strong.

its just going to become core next to morellos, not as a replacement.

if they make it 10% cdr, then its even easier to weave it into a build as a core item. this is absolutely the worst case they could come up with.

even if they made it 30% cdr, and force people to go over cap. wasting 10% cdr would still be worth shutting one or more opponents on the enemy team entirely down.

if there is an item that turns the game into a 4v5 because one of the guys on the enemy team simply cant move throughout an entire fight, then its still a winning item.

its not like people arent building item 3078 on some manaless champions despite wasting a couple 100 gold on one of the stats. because the rest of the item is simply so good with some kits that it doesnt matter.

Malicious Metal6 votes

Ugh, now that I think of it it'll be even more of a nightmare.

The 40% CDR builds that permaslow you without even giving up damage for the godly utility.

Why Riot even considers this is beyond me.

AramsAreBest1 votes

What's wrong with option B

Malicious Metal2 votes

Nothing, but Riot seems to think the CDR/Mana option has more potential. Or so it sounded when Meddler chirped in to present 'em

JRobin311 votes

I think RIOT should take...

option C: add slows to every item in the game so that Rylai's isn't the best item item the game.

Divine Winds2 votes

IMO I think Rylai's reall needs a change. Almost every ap midlaner or other lanes buy this because of its amazing slow and tankiness. WIth a lot of AP btw.

Malicious Metal6 votes

Damage Durability Slows

Pick two

Divine Winds3 votes

Tbh I think that rylais should be a tank item with slows rather than damage.

Malicious Metal2 votes

Ditto

Eeyore2 votes

Make it a 3-hit effect like Vel'Koz (perhaps even with an autoattack refresh) to prevent chasers (like Cassi and Evelynn) from perma-slowing you. Abuse-cases like Vladimir would also struggle to trigger it in their first rotation (without using Sanguine Pool).

You could even make it not-trigger on applied DOTs (like Blaze, Noxious Blast, Deathfire, Malefic, Children of the Grave and Poison Trail), to (again) prevent perma-slows abuse-cases. It should still trigger on persistent AOEs (like Tormented Soil) and tethers (like Drain), and if the nerf to Singed is too significant then his trail could be made a persistent AOE instead of an applied DOT (or make it a persistent AOE that also applies a DOT, but the DOT doesn't do damage until after 1 second and exposure continually resets the timer).

Votable Jester1 votes

I'm sorry, but that would make it incredibly weak for Mordekaiser, which is part of the reason Malicious Metal doesn't want it to become a fully offensive item. Can you even imagine how difficult it would be for Mordekaiser to activate that slow?

Eeyore1 votes

His W would trigger it after 3 instances of damage, because it's a persistent AOE. His Q is a 3-hit effect already, and it applies spell effects. Depending on the stack timer, it could be triggered in 3 Siphons - so it would give Mordekaiser windows of up time and down time.

Plus, Mordekaiser needs reworking any way.

Votable Jester1 votes

Mordekaiser generally can't get in range for his W ticks to hit without getting an initial slow on the enemy. I suppose with a Hextech Revolver it could work, but that would be 2 required items rather than just one.
