If you really want to bring back amumu to viable status, start by reverting his nerf on 7.8 and 4.20

7.8

Amumu Passive now true damage. Passive numbers down.

The function of Amumu’s passive (post-mitigation true damage) didn’t match expectations (true damage), so we’re switching to the latter and adjusting the numbers accordingly. Passive - Cursed Touch BONUS TRUE DAMAGE 15% of magic damage dealt, calculated after that damage was reduced by magic resist ⇒ 10% of magic damage dealt, calculated before that damage was reduced by magic resist W - Despair PERCENT HEALTH DAMAGE 1/1.5/2/2.5/3% target’s maximum health per second ⇒ 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2% target’s maximum health per second

4.20

Amumu Less base armor, reduced W damage at early ranks.

With beefed-up health pools across the jungle and this little mummy dealing area-effect % health damage, Amumu's going to be a big beneficiary of the 2015 preseason jungle changes. We're taking preemptive measures to pull his clear speeds back in line, but we still expect him to be one of the stronger champions heading into this preseason. General ARMOR 27 ⇒ 23 W - Despair ADDITIONAL DAMAGE PER SECOND 1.5/1.8/2.1/2.4/2.7% of enemies' maximum health ⇒ 1/1.5/2/2.5/3% of enemies' maximum health

This champion was wrongly nerfed because there was a riot employee who though he could predict what was going to happen to the jungle meta so he decided to nerf amumu clear speed before even implementing the new jungle.

His W was hit at many occasion and it was his W that helped clear fast camps.

Typical rito tho.

"We expect the jungle changes to make Amumu too good, so we're pre-nerfing him."

Also rito:

"Kha'Zix is one of the 3 best junglers right now but his championship skin is coming after worlds so we're buffing him to be THE best jungler."

yeah, i've only seen a few amumu jungles that were actually any good. They carry when they're good, but 98% of the time my jungler (or enemy jungler) invades when nobody can help him and the poor guy ends up feeding cause he's trying to do his route.

yeah, i got 190k on amumu. if the enemy jungler is not invading you level 2 you know he's the shittiest jungler ever. amumu is like paperweight until he gets level 6, uses his ult and then he's paperweight untill that 200 something second cooldown is done

I am a 190k amumu main and when i saw those amumu buffs i thought. What a fricking joke. You want to make him better? make him tanky. he's a fricking vanguard that gets shredded in 2 seconds.

That's why I refuse to build anything on him but full Hand Grenade (AP) most of the time.

You still die in 2 seconds...the difference is you can one-shot somebody and also nuke the enemy team to around 50%.

I've found that there's very few Champions in the game that can deal with AP Amumu. I wonder why it's not more popular.

i'll tell you why. Because to get to the point that you actually got some AP to deal the game is usually over because the enemy kha'zix killed you 10 times in your own jungle.

Amumu isnt bad tho. Hes just not broken.

46.7% winrate is pretty bad dude.

What elo is that at though? Amumu is known for being decent at low elo and poor at higher elos, he has a very simple kit and I don't think high elo viability can be achieved by simply boosting the numbers.

I just took a quick check on OP.GG. Should be Plat+ Korean SoloQ.

Just because a champ is easy at lower elos though doesn't mean they should be unviable at higher elos.

It's not great balancing I agree, but I think Amumu needs more than just number changes to be played at high elo.

LegacyDAP1 votes

It's honestly not Amumu himself, but the other champions that are good that make him bad, and make him unviable in high elo.

So yeah, I agree.

If they wanted him meta, they'd make him meta. Like Vayne, they wanted a Vayne meta with the expensive skin, so they gave her an unreasonable buff.

JuiceBoxP1 votes

Yeah, that's about right..

I will be real with you.

Amumu isnt a popular champion, so dont expect any changes to him. Plus if a miracle strikes a Riot Balance Team employee about the existence and responsabilities of his job, they may say they have something planned for him, and only apply them after X patches, only to then nerf him to the ground because they were too strong and never touch Amumu again, until once again the cycle repeats.

Once upon a time amumu was banned in every rank game. And now I forgot this game has amumu.
