Why the community hates this meta while loving changes patches 2009-4.10

Its simple. **The changes were adding to the game rather than replacing the game. **

When nidalee was reworked because she was a spear bot everybody loved it. While landing spears was still good no longer was landing spears was the only thing you had to do. There is not a single point of the kit that was removed and she simply had her kit mended.

For some reason everybody loved the sion rework but im going to use him as an example of a bad rework since he was the earliest example of the type of rework (karma kept some of her kit). Name 2 parts of his old kit he kept. Thats right you probably cant even remember his old kit because theres literally 1 thing that the new kit kept. His w sheild (that didnt even keep the point of the old sheild) and the E passive on the sheild. His ult gave him 100% lifesteal his e gave him massive amounts of ad his q was a stun and his passive reduced autoattack damage. This was not an addition this was a replacement.

Now comes around aatrox. Nobody played him until he became useful enough that people were allowed. Basically people wanted to but couldnt. Because of being meta it brought around the meta humpers as well meaning 3 differnt groups were playing it: the meta humpers, the aatrox mains, and the deep pooled toplaners. So in other words its the exact same thing as sion rework but unlike sion rework you had an actual player base to anger.

Now lets say you want to play the good old game you remember. Too bad! You cant. Unlike a normal game that you buy for 5-60$ you cant simply go back to it 6 years later and play it again. So when riot changed their mindset from trying to keep the elements of the game relatively the same in lue of sion reworks across the board its easy to see why players got pissed.

Sion Aatrox Urgot Taric But let me remind you. You guys were the one that liked the sion rework. You guys were the ones that supported the client change. You guys wanted runes to be free. There is not a single thing in the game that you guys didnt ask for. You guys let riot attack minority playerbases until you realized the minorities have left and you became the minority.

I don't think anyone liked Old Nidalee, I can't remember a single post saying "Yeah, fighting against this champion."

For some reason everybody loved the sion rework but im going to use him as an example of a bad rework since he was the earliest example of the type of rework (karma kept some of her kit).

Because it was a good rework.

Name 2 parts of his old kit he kept.

Q, point and click stun, scaled with AP W, shield that exploded after a set amount of time or one minute. E, togggleable damage increase that increased his AD but every AA cost him life. Each kill stacked onto his HP. R, massive amount of lifesteal for a short duration that also leeched to his allies in a obscenely small area around him.

His w sheild (that didnt even keep the point of the old sheild) and the E passive on the sheild. His ult gave him 100% lifesteal his e gave him massive amounts of ad his q was a stun and his passive reduced autoattack damage. This was not an addition this was a replacement.

This kit also didn't work, it literally didn't work together, he was only "viable" as an AP champion as a gimmick for a while, AD Sion was never a thing, his E and R were literally useless.

The size of the Aatrox player base was around the size of the old Sion base, all 7 of them. No one played old Aatrox, at all, there were like 5 people who did.

Now lets say you want to play the good old game you remember. Too bad! You cant. Unlike a normal game that you buy for 5-60$ you cant simply go back to it 6 years later and play it again. Want to all of these reworks, only one champion hasn't seen an exponential increases in play rate and win rate.

Riot doesn't care about a champions player base.

Wait what?

Sion was completely replaced but everyone loved him because he was unviable and they turned a shit champion with awkward values into something cohesive and enjoyable.

Then Poppy was replaced and now she's a significantly better champion.

People really loved the Galio, Warwick, and Taric reworks as well (thematically, at the very least) because the champion had more potential to do exciting stuff, felt less awkward, had better champion personalities, and could generally do more.

Hell, even with the Urgot rework the only Urgot main I know in high elo (I actually go to school with him) was disappointed with Riot removing his ranged armor shred but absolutely loved his new thematics and still plays him extensively.

The only reason people are upset about the Aatrox rework is that they got unlucky enough that the 2 items that were actually good on him somehow managed to break him within the last 3-4 months of his previous iteration even though Riot stated multiple times, "Yo we're about to rework this guy hold tight." People have been begging, for years for Aatrox to have a better kit, a more enjoyable theme, cool changes to him, just generally be a better champion, etc. Well, Riot delivered but people finally got Aatrox as a meta champion, which is probably what they actually wanted, so now they're pissed.
