Title. Champions should not be able to have so many steroids in their kit that this is a viable strategy and it is infuriating to play against.

He should.

But what he shouldn't have is immunity to the two forms of CC that are supposed to counter exactly that, on an ability that already buffs his AS and MS.

Hes a melee champion, theres no reason he shouldnt build tanky.

Defensive items are inherently superior to offensive ones, because a dead champion deals 0 damage.

Tanky means less damage. So he wont instantly die to being CCd, but he wont auto kill you once hes on you.

Yes, except for when tanky also means free attack speed/%health damage/true damage steroids on the kit. This is why so many assassins have been built as bruisers. When you give a champion easy access to that kind of damage, they build tanky and still wreck the floor with their opponents because their kit doesn't punish them from doing so. Look at bruiser Ekko, Fizz, Yi, Rengar, Kha'Zix...

Yi has done this for a long time. Get Bloodrazor + one other offensive item (two if you're feeling bold) and then build pure defensive items afterward, which means you're building "full tank" after your initial damage items.

Very few assassins have been built bruser. Mostly ekko, who is a stretch as an assassin. And even then, he took 5 years to kill a squishy, he was just tanky as fuck with W and R complementing his tank stats.

Yi building tank items lets him survive burst and a single CC. It also gives you 2-3 times the time or more to react and get him off your team.

I don't consider Noc (diver), old Eve (grey area but mostly diver with her ult), or Yi an assassin, but literally everything else did at one point/still does do bruiser builds.

Shaco - season 7 they did a trinity force build into tank items, they played mainly for split pushing and being annoying and less on assassination.

Rengar - season 7 to now, there's a reason he's gotten reclassified to diver.

Kha - season 7 to now has a bruiser build kha mains go when they want to just play off W evo utility and are against full tank/bruiser comps. (warrior, tabis/mercs, duskblade, cleaver, Maw/GA , Deadman's/visage)

Fizz - season 6 (onhit fizz top, and i think sunfire fizz was a thing at one point too before ekko proved he was better at it.)

Ekko - season 6 (tankko)

Few shacos did such, and most had no success. Triforce shaco hasnt been a thing for years, and he falls off a cliff in usefullness regardless of building tanky or not.

Rengar still doesnt build bruiser, nor has he really ever.

Kha is the same, no bruiser build. Your list isnt even a bruiser build. A cleaver and tabis does not a bruiser build make.

Ill give you fizz. Its literally just fizz and ekko.

Looks like OP's team had no magic dmg, so the GA + tabis + randuins (which youre right, doesnt even come near full or even half tank) made the yi insufferable to fight against.

Lethal tempo vayne lets you just build rageblade and a few attack speed items then rush item 3193 and other tanky items since the active doesn't reduce true damage..

Although now the strat is a lot weaker since riot nerfed rageblade and it relied entirely on on-hit w procs, youll still be able take half of someone`s healthbar while youre using gargoyle though.

Im surprised more vaynes dont go item 3022 , alota health, slows for even less likely escape and a sprinkling of damage. item 3193 I also always forget about that item, maybe ill start using it since true damage has reduced albeit marginally.
