Most early deaths mean nothing if you smarten up and play passively

Malicious Metal··80 votes·3,120 views

It happens to us all. Be it top getting all inned by riven Mid overextending and getting ganked Bot lane screwing up on that early aggression Jungle getting caught trying to invade

We've all been there, we've all been those giving up first blood and maybe even a second kill. By your second death you gotta ask yourself, what can I do to win this?

Well bud, there's one foolproof way to do so! But first let me tell you something I've learned from playing this game for four seasons.

#Flaming/Blaming doesn't help anyone I know sometimes you feel like you gotta vent some rage but flaming someone for f*cking up only increases their level of tilt and they'll do much worse from that point on. I know the league community can be pretty darn emotional and most of us got temper that would make my italian mom jealous but in the end blaming someone for doing bad won't help, like at all. I'm not saying you should just turn a blind eye and suck it up, no. But negativity's contagious and nothing good will ever come out of it. Give advice, not blame, be kind, polite and most importantly, don't start any drama.

But unto the point of what to do when behind a few kills.

  1. If you're not the ADC invest in some early defense. Sure, that Mejay's might be tempting but that giants belt might just help you out a lot more
  2. Focus on farming; Farm is a steady income and way less risky than going for kills
  3. Ward up, play passively. Don't let yourself become the target for ganks, watch your minimal
  4. Try not to give up more kills at any cost

Most games can be won if you manage to catch back up, exploit your enemy's weakness or simply punish them for THEIR mistakes,

So please, if you're in this kind of situation just remember this; Be polite, be kind and play defensively.

Thank you.

ya i was hoping item 3812 would fix him with the blood price proccing a heal. hes so fun to play but so fucking bad

Weasel Kensei2 votes

I was playing with an Aatrox the other day, and I had Taric. He was OK and all, but once teamfighting started and I hit him with my W, and could proc my E on him as well... Every time he dived I nailed his target with an E and the knock up stun time of 2.5 seconds of hard CC with Aatrox beating the hell out of them plus my E damage just turned the second half of that match into a lockout against them.

Was amazing. Their only hope was NOT to get dived by Aatrox, otherwise they just stood there and got deleted. Now when I see someone get Aatrox top/jg, I get Taric support.

There is something to be said for a champs kit, Tryn lacks the same engage so he lacks the same synergy with Taric.

AFK Push1 votes

I feel like you could do that with any diver bruiser and most of them do a better job than aatrox at staying alive, sticking, deleting, or ccing the target JarvanIV Vi Renekton Irelia MonkeyKing etc. So what I'm saying is that this synergy is with the diver class not really aatrox, and that your team would still be better off with any other diver for "insert reason here."

Clearly the jungler's fault.

Actually, the enemy team can capitalize on a passive team by split pushing and taking objectives and forcing fights.

Playing passive is not always a good idea.

  • Invest in defense; This isn't really a solution. This relies on you having the ability to farm, which is kind of negated by the game state being overwhelming overloaded with high damage, low cool down champions at the moment (at least in solo queue).

  • Focus on farming: If they have killed you twice, good luck. Seriously. Anyone who understands what an advantage is will not let you farm. They will control the wave, they will dare you to come in, and then they will force your summoners and/or kill you... again.

  • Ward up: This only matters if a jungler or roamer is the difference maker, and even then after like, 2 - 3 kills they should be in a position to 1v1 you, so yeah warding is purely situational and in most cases is not going to save you from the 100 to 0 all in by your lane opponent. Props for mentioning warding though, that's nice.

  • Try not to give up kills... at any cost: Uninstall the game? I think that is the most surefire way to go about it aside from sitting in fountain. See point above to understand the primary issue you are going to run into in most situations.

  • Absolutely be polite. "Oh my, dear jungle. Could I be so bold as to request your assistance in winning my lane? I have been mortally wounded but two times. Surely with your aid I might rid the rift of this foul opponent and cleanse my name of the shame "First Blood." "Nah man, just stop feeding, seriously, or I report you for being bad and being a flamer."

  • There is no real answer to this issue. Some games you're just gonna get dumpstered. You're gonna get manhandled. You're going to be destroyed in a 1v1 or 1v2,3,4,5 situation... repeatedly. It's going to be frustrating, it's going to be demoralizing, and it's going to be infuriating.

The most reliable advice is this; play a champion that, no matter how badly the game goes, no matter how utterly toxic your teammates are, or how crappy your play, you have fun, or at least enjoy playing the champion enough to offset the crushing defeat you get handed. And most importantly,** DO NOT PLAY RANKED.**

HateDaddy2 votes

The general message here is true but after a certain point, "just play passively and farm" isn't an option anymore.

Teams will start to push their advantages and if they're far enough ahead, I'm willing to concede a few towers but I'm fighting over an inhib tower of nobody is dead. If you just let teams walk into your base and take your inhib towers when all 5 are up, you're going to lose that way 9/10. In my experience, the biggest throws come from forcing inhib towers and objectives and the dragon/baron fights are self explanatory. But people who willingly let teams take their inhib turrets with no contention piss me off, id rather fight and force a mistake on the most crucial breaking point into our base than watch them slowly bleed us out and build up a much larger gold lead. That's just the point where "farming and scaling" isn't an option anymore and it frustrates me to no ends when people think they can do it while they're base is being taken, you have to fight after a certain point.

but yeah, a few early deaths is nothing. You might need help and you might need to play to enable your teammates instead of carrying yourself but knowing when that's the case is half the battle and most people don't realize it until they've died 3-4 times solo.

However, in fairness, sometimes there's almost nothing you can do if a jungler is dead set on camping you and dives you or clears your wards. And as a top lane especially, that's frustrating as shit when that happens because top is so easy to gank and virtually impossible to reliably ward 100%.

The 2nd Horseman2 votes

My biggest problem when it comes to early deaths is the frustration in when I'm on a champion I've grown comfortable with and no matter the match up I shouldn't be doing so poorly. This leads to me just screaming "I GOT BOOSTED TO UNRANKED" and then the revenge fantasy sets in.

warpenguin5552 votes

Yes. you dont even need to finish that armor/mr item, just getting the item 1031 item 3191 item 3155 item 3211 etc will still help you out, even if you dont plan to finish that item any time soon.

manbearswine2 votes

I get the whole "learn from your mistakes and adjust to the situation" thing, but saying early deaths mean nothing is beyond absurd, they can very easily(depending on the matchup) completely screw you over, and chances are that they will screw you pretty hard either way, the gold+exp advantage early is very meaningful.

2 deaths bot lane spells an instant loss unless your whole team does better than theirs and assists you a lot afterwards.

And even then it's almost impossible if the bot lane is competent.

What Elo are you talking? A lot of times in bronze/silver the enemy team cant close and the game state devolves to where the board may be in the enemy's favor by a few towers or even an inhib but the individual players have caught up in items and gold. Late game one Ace by a losing team with a decent minion wave pushing in the right direction can literally just win the game.

A good support warding for decent rotations and peeling fed players off the adc can help that comeback big time. I've won many games we were down 20-30 kills mid game with a great bard ult to crush the teamfight. I've lost games we were up a ton as well if the team didn't listen to pings on objectives.

Have even calmly explained that though you only have 20 health left the enemy team is literally all dead so nothing can prevent you from taking that tower with your minions. The players in question yell at me they're too low and need to heal. Lo and behold, we lose despite our massive lead cuz no objectives. It was a Vayne that game. I just want to point that out, that a Vayne completely fucked up one of my promos when we were up a million kills (that my bard spoonfed them I promise you I did) because they literally refused to attack towers. Not saying anything but just anecdotally mentioning; it was a Vayne.

What Elo are you talking?

Diamond 3 - Master 400 lp Players run 2-3 lenses and never pick champions that cannot flank/avoid vision control. Just because you have the river/brushes warded doesn't save you from the potential ghost sprinted sivir/karma olaf/hecarim diving you from their tower to yours in half a second and knocking you both out in the process.

And ime if you get ganked/killed early you're definitely not going to have a sightstone/power on your first back, giving him/them the opportunity to strike again, this time ahead not only on buffs/skillshots, but levels & gold on top.

Bouncemaster Zac1 votes

So what to do when it's no longer possible to farm? The Darius who will one-shot you the instant you go to last hit a single melee minion is freezing outside your turret range. What then?

AFK Push3 votes

A darius that fed means that you already failed to play passively. You can soak up exp all you want, but you have to get help, let him outpaly himself, or just let that tower fall and try to make plays elsewhere. It really all depends.

You're mistaken. In most matchups Darius can reach that point with a single kill. Hell, there are matchups that start that way from the word go.

AFK Push2 votes

No champion in the game spirals out of control off of one kill. You have to admit that is an over exaggeration just a tad bit. I'm familiar with laning against him as Shyvana, and it was manageable pre-rework, because he didn't have built in sustain. Now that he has that burst heal on his q, you just have to wait for him to outplay himself (gets too close to tower and you ult him into yours etc), and tell jungler or mid to gank top and help, because Darius will push regardless making him an easy target.

You have to learn that against a champ like him in the first few levels that you should just let him push and get the level advantage, and at the very least get some exp. Try to get back into the game farmwise after lane phase, and pick someone that outscales so that his early game won't mean as much in the long run. Just my two cents.

Tobias Brackner2 votes

Then you and your whole team got so outplayed by that Darius that you need to try and find other lanes.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

While I mostly agree; playing passively doesn't restore the tower that was leveled, while you were waiting to respawn in the first place.

Most early deaths mean nothing if you smarten up and play passively intelligently

passivity can also fuck you up, sometimes worse than aggression

ICANTFEELMYLEGS1 votes

What should I do if my enemy laner gets so aggressive to the point where I can't even farm with out them all inning me and nearly killing me? Have had this happen way too many times, where it's either, get one farm and lose half my health or just hug turret but don't risk dying again.

Shaaolin1 votes

Depends who u play if you are playing early game champs like Leblanc And still losing badly ur doing something wrong If ur playing Kassadin and get stomped by enemy early its ok but you still can make it in late game Otherwise just freeze near turret where turret wont hit minions and not steal ur farm :D but also be in safe ring of turret Eventually if you manage to freeze wave there enemy wont be able to escape gank

Randomonium1 votes

It's very important to farm but I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone "playing safe" and wind up dying because they overextended for CS. If you're far behind you want to stay in range of minions so you can at least get the xp but only move forward to CS if you're near your tower or your opponent isn't in a position to all in you.

malecious, dont try to hide it, the secret strat is to feed the enemy adc to give u a better ghost :3

redfeenix1 votes

Yeah I play on a smurf so I usually give the enemy laner 1 or two kills depending on the matchup. Its more fun for both sides: he has a easier time in lane and I can practice playing from behind.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Personally I disagree with the "play passively"

League has a lot of room for outplay whether in lane or on the map.

Early deaths don't mean shit, there is still plenty of room to outplay your opponents across the game.

People dont understand you dont have to fight. You see them in their jungle taking blue buff? You see them in a bush? You don't have to fight.

They're out of position and can't run away? But you're 0/6. You couldn't kill him the last 6 times, now that he has a 6 kill advantage over you, you think you can kill him now?

After 2-3 deaths just stop. You aren't carrying the game. You don't have to fight. Idk how many games Ive lost simply because someone wont stop feeding. Someone on your team might be able to carry you if you're slightly lower than average but why make it harder for them? I've had a 0/12 Teemo feed his ass off and walk around their jungle repeating "im a ward im a ward" all game to the point he was three levels behind me-- and im the support. We won but it was so difficult.

Weasel Kensei1 votes

The title to your thread is terrible... if you have to change your playstyle to undo the lead granted, then they mean something. They mean as you say, playing more passively.

Youre correct though. The power gap between 5,000 gold and 6,000 gold isnt as dramatic as it is between 1,100 and 2,000 gold. Also eventually you will close the level gap also, reducing another power factor the enemy has on you.

Overall a nice post you have there OP, just a bad title, should be more like:

Most early deaths can be overcome if you smarten up and play passively.

tbh

dont give up kills at all

im speaking for myself here but i like ''guaranteed'' succes wheter its going for the allin kill or taking a tower or a dragon

i go for it when i know i can either get it for sure or if i somehow cant manage to at least i can get out without dying or giving up another valuable objective

this strategy seems to work every single time just requires some game knowledge

Low risk high reward plays is where it's at if you dont have wards placed down for vision or know where the other actors are dont bother going ham.

People are stupid they just go allin at lvl 3 because they feel like it and die then they proceed to buy damage even though their opponent with a gold lead does too guess who will have more damage?? At that point the only wy to win is if they screw up well thats kind of stupid now isn't leaving all the cards in their hands.

But no just go in anyway

By the time they are 0/4 it's about time to start blaming everyone else, but lets proceed to buy more damage because that will surely help as will the blaming of others because you can't do anythign wrong now can you.

I mean it's really quite simple the only constant in your games is you, and if you play low risk high reward, going for attainable objectives and kills you know can't possibly fail if you perform at least half decent then you are always going to be alright.

That being said you can't always know everything especially if you are new to the game or learning a champion but you still should know to put down vision and you still can play it safe.

And for those who do die early buy defense play safe dont let them snowball any further, keep pressure in your lane push when they roam and ping.

even if they are ahead you can often keep em locked in lane especially on any champion who can make use out of some defensive items in which case a zzrot can help greatly in locking down your lane opponent from helping his team. The least you can do if behind is try and make your opponent as useless as you are, this will allow your team to then carry the game, because you simply can't always be the big carry period.
