What is the point of increasing the dodge penalty?

I'd like to keep playing my main, and would be willing to lose 3 LP and wait 5 minutes every time I dodge, that isn't so bad, but the second dodge costing 10 LP and forcing a 30 minute wait seems kinda harsh.

It isn't going to reduce the number of games I dodge, I'm just going to get on a different account in the same MMR, and if that lobby looks sketchy I'll dodge there as well, and then I'll hop on ANOTHER different account in the same MMR, and if that lobby looks sketchy I'll dodge there again, and so on and so forth.

The only thing the ramping dodge penalty does is prevent me from dodging on the same account, it doesn't reduce the total number of dodges I will perform. The only thing that will reduce the number of dodges is reducing the number of teammates I get who are autofilled, on loss streaks, flaming each other, or first timing champions in ranked.

Anyway, I just wish I could keep trying on my main every 5 minutes and losing 3 LP each time instead of having to constantly switch accounts.

there shouldnt be a time penalty for dodging at all.

the lp penalty itself already deters people from dodging more than 3 times a day on an account.

if youd lose 20lp for the dodge, you might aswell play it out.

all the time penalty does is remove people from the que and increase que times imo.

The wait penalty also serves to tilt you, because you have time to think about why you dodged. "Seriously, Riot? The 30% winrate Brand IRL who picked Rammus 'Jungle' w/ TP and Ghost?"

Dodging is imo very healthy, mechanically. The only people who wouldn't care about your 35% winrate have a 35% winrate themselves, so you would lose nothing by playing along-side them (unless of course you're a hypocritical douchebag that wants to troll but hates being trolled. In that case, though... karma, bitch.)

I can only think of two reasons, one of which are legit and the other of which stems from corporate greed;

  1. Dodging being at no cost would result in people picking and choosing games with smurfs (although since they already do this and the wait time doesn't change the RNG or LP penalty involved...)
  2. It forces you to play more games that may actually be harmful to your climb, therfor increasing the length of your climb in the most arbitrary way possible.

I imagine not a lot of people have 3-4 accounts in the same Elo.

Probably not. It was supposed to be my way of proving that "I don't belong in this Elo, it's just my screwed up MMR that's holding me back!" but ended up being my way of proving that "I definitely belong in this Elo, and my MMR is probably the least of my concerns..." :P

Anyway, I can't recommend leveling at least one extra account enough.

Dodge penalties increase to decrease abuse, in the higher levels where people have excellent knowledge of matchups and teamcomps dodges are utilized frequently. There's a few players from last season for instance who used dodges to get near 100% winrates for the entire season.

So while yeah, you can just dodge twice then switch to another account, you're still prevented from climbing too fast on the account you dodged from. Most people are discouraged by the 30 minute penalty, decreasing the amount of dodges.

Anyway, dodging is overpowered and it's a wonder we have it at all. In Dota for instance; a dodge counts as a full loss (last i checked, maybe they changed it).

A dodge in DotA2 is free in the same way it is in League. It shows up in the match history, but it does not reduce your MMR and it comes with a 5 minute wait for the first dodge, and a 10 minute wait for every dodge after.

Dodging is vital in both LoL and DotA2 because of how many trolls and toxic people there are. If you can selectively choose not to play a game w/ the 32% winrate Bronze AD and the 15% winrate Bronze Mid, that's just one way you remove RNG from the matchmaking. It makes the game a lot more enjoyable, not to deal with 0/14/5's who respond with "Idc this isn't my main so kys."

Ah, so last I was playing dota 2 you could dodge in the "waiting for players" screen but not in draft. It's nice to hear you can dodge in draft now (dota loads the other way around). But anyway, I'm just pointing out dodging is really strong and the reasons there has to be penalties for using it, else it would be overused. It's useful and it's nice to have but it's also too useful and people want to actually just get in a game sometimes.

Yeah. You need to strike a balance between dodging and waiting for the 95% winrate Kalista ADC, and playing a game with the people who have 50% winrates and hoping they don't chimp out. The penalty helps encourage it. Dodging doesn't lower MMR, so you can in theory do it if you're willing to wait... but do you want to?

maybe if they removed the penalty or lessened the punishment at had at 5 minutes each time. It would encourage players who are fkng bad to go to normal and practice. If no one wants to play with you it isn't because theyre trolls, or whatever. Maybe it's just because you're the worse... c: Not you specifically.

It is often necessary and can definitely help you climb, but Riot doesn't want anyone waiting long to get into a game. Thats why we have 24/7 autofill. If the penalty didn't increase, we'd see way more dodges, especially at high elo where dodging is already very common.
