Base stats for ranged champions are not lower than melees in general. i can' bring up many examples where its not true with champions that go in the same lane. so riot what is the disadvantage of being ranged?

Brain Errör 4045 votesI think your first statement is incorrect. Why not grab a friend, pick a variety of ranged v melee champs, take 0 runes/0masteries go to riven and smack each other to death. See who normally dies first, the ranged or the melee champ.
I'd love to do it, but I have no friends. I also don't have any solid proof of this either. Remember, no items, no runes and no masteries. Tell me how it goes.

define disadvantage. There is no inherent disadvantage to range itself. All ranged weaknesses are built into their kits. A general weakness is that they are easier to kill at melee range. They aren't good at doing straight up trades and don't scale well with defense in most cases.

Boulderox2 votesmelee champions used to be designed to have hard cc and abilities to lock down targets, if they could reach the target, they were dead and ranged came with only damage, little utility, and were as fragile as glass in a hammer factory. But now that is the ladder and now melees have hard cc and lockdown, while ranged has hard cc too, ways to peel out of dangers alone, high damage, and utility on top of range.
