lol wrong, utterly wrong, he was almost perma banned in lcs before his rework. 100% cooldown refresh on kills mixed with ridiculous sustain on w and the crazy ap scaling on q. He'd basically kill 1 person with his q, then smash his q button (and you could be untargetable after the first q if you timed it right) and boom pentakill easy. I remember because i got 32 pentakills with it before his changes (and even more on changes release, where his ad was op).

No he wasn't. I'm looking at his lol.gamepedia page right now. Throughout all of 2012 and up to July of 2013 (when he was reworked), he was picked 7 times, and banned twice. He had virtually no impact on competitive play. You are just wrong. There is no truth to AP Yi being a competitive pick.

If you think he was played competitively, you need to find me some numbers, because the numbers I can find all say that you're misremembering things.

He was a major feast/famine champion, and he was ungodly annoying when he got ahead, but most often he wouldn't get ahead and he would be useless. This was particularly true in high level games, where people played safe farm lanes against him and ignored his pushing and sustain. He saw no pro play, and he generally sucked, but he was a pubstomper. That's it. Until he got reworked, he was annoying, not good. After he got reworked, he was stupidly OP for a patch or two, but I think we all remember that.

i'd say look it up on youtube, i've watched about 10+ lcs games of old ap yi being played and dominating, as for numbers i don't really know honestly, i wouldn't be too surprised to be misremembering the ban thing

I took a look, but I can't find a single game that isn't listed on that site. I can find 5 recorded games from that time period, and there are supposedly more than that (7-11 total, based on whether the summer LCS games happened before or after his rework, which I don't know). That's including games that were from IPL5 or other tournaments that were from before the LCS started. So, I'm sticking with him not being a big pro pick.

Ap Master yi was an early game champ, he fell of late game. Ad Master yi was more powerful late game. Master yi doesn't get 100% cdr after kills anymore. bringing back Ap scaling on master yi's alpha strike would make him a more versatile champion with out making him stronger. To be able to choose 3 build paths with master yi instead of 1. Ap yi, AD yi, and Hybrid Yi. Ap yi would be op early game, ad yi would be a late game beast, and hybrid yi would scale across the whole game better. Another thought is add a little ap scaling to master yi's alpha strike so players could have more fun in normals, and yet not make major changes to his winrate

The one time I laned against AP Yi mid, I wasn't allowed to leave from under my tower, and even when I didn't, I just got Alpha striked all the way from out of tower range. I think it would be funny to see in LCS XD

"Just CC him" But ya...Yi would be banned in LCS

The old instant pentakill videos on YT still make me glad I wasn't playing the game at that time lol

I never got to play it so I would love seeing it coming back ^^. What were the scalings again? I know 100% alpha, 400% meditate? And how did wuju and highlander scale?

I don't believe they scaled, but it didn't matter.

The whole point of AP Yi was to alpha strike, which if didn't kill the enemy it took a significant chunk of their health, and just wait until off cd and repeat. If you took too much damage you ran to somewhere safe, meditate and you will be at full health again. You would generally alpha strike a minion near the enemy champion, because if the initial target died mid alpha strike you ended up in your starting position and not next to your first target (and after a few items killing a minion, especially caster one, with a single alpha strike wasn't particularly difficult), so you remained relatively safe.

If you could not burst down Yi in a quick combo (or if you got no ganks) then you could not shove Yi out of lane until his mana was gone.

highlander was even more beastly. and wuju style didn't give true damage, it just gave a lot more attack damage. Wuju style lasted 10 seconds when activated instead of the current 5. It was a lot stronger early game, but the new wuju is stronger late game. Alpha strike also had a farther chain range. So it was easier to alpha strike poke in lane. To alpha strike poke effectively you have to lose a minion kill. So if Ap yi wasn't able to bully you outta lane or get kills his cs would lag behind. Meditate was weaker early game but stronger late game in my opinion in terms of damage reduction. It gave flat armor and magic resist; while the new meditate blocks a certain percentage of damage. 400 armor and 400 magic resist with 400% Ap scaling make it stronger late game as you built your ap up.
