trying to play a ADC without lifesteal made me realize how overbearing it is

it puts me at a big disadvantage in lane, I can get poked down as opposed to the other ADC who constantly gets life back from attacks due to lifesteal, in team fights I get less survivability, I cannot survive tanks and I even lose out to the enemy ADC who has less damage than me because he has lifesteal, it just feels awful to play without lifesteal because lifesteal is just that damn strong, shouldn't something be done about it? when lifesteal trumps just flat damage shouldn't that be a problem?

They used to make it that if you bought vamp sceptre, you only got lifesteal and nothing else. The only things you could get from it were bloodthirster, which was stupidly expensive on top of requiring stacking, which also meant you had no attack speed which affected dps, wriggles that was actually extremely cost effective but a slot/resell waste, and gunblade, which I don't have to explain why ADC don't buy.

Now there are so many lifesteal options, on top of the do-everything BORK that I actually find it hard to NOT have a lifesteal item in an AD champ's build even if you aren't specifically building for it.

The way to counter lifesteal is burst, you cant win a sustained fight, but if you burst them then you will win. And if you think lifesteal is that op, just buy it yourself

This is the difference between sustained damage and raw damage.

You have more damage, but after they do their damage, they gain life. Lets say you do 500 damage and they do 400. You have no lifesteal and they have.... Lets go 30%.

You do 500, they hit for 400, gain 133 life. This makes your actual damage dealt to them 367. You dont need a ton, you have 30%ish after just Bloodthirster and the masteries pretty much.... But all it takes is the one item.

However, lets say you do 600 damage and they do 400 with 30% lifesteal.

You do 600, they do 400, gain 133. The actual damage dealt from you would be 467. You win the trade off.

This ALSO goes along with attack speed. Because if you can shoot twice as fast as them, you can do 300 damage twice before they get their 400 damage. You still out damage them and they can not sustain it.

However, if they shoot twice as fast as you, you can do more effective damage with 200 to their 500.

There is a balance between needing life steal, needing damage, and needing attack speed. You just need to find the right one for the situation.

should such a balance even exist though? I remember back when lifesteal was bought to sustain yourself through the lane but lose allot of damage or you buy it late game to heal of minions when you get poked but was never taken into consideration when balancing all your damage and such, but now it is because of how strong it is and I feel it's partially because of tanks/juggernauts as well.

if you don't have lifesteal even tanks will beat you because of their damage and how tanky they are, should this be happening? should the only counter to tanks/juggernauts/fighters w/e they are called be lifesteal?

as an example I played a xayah match where I went reaver, infinity edge and phantom dancer and I couldn't deal with any tanks because they would wittle me down and I could not do a thing about it because I lacked the lifesteal, now I could have bought lifesteal yes but should I? should I be forced to buy lifesteal to deal with them?

So...... Did this become a thread about how op juggernauts and tanks are?

And if you get no lifesteal at all or any kind of sustain.... Then its not because they did more damage than you, its because you didnt do enough damage to them.

4000 hp vs 2000 hp.

If you did 600 damage, then you would need 7 attacks vs the tank. If the tank did 400, they would only need 5. You did more damage, but they had more health.

Add in 30% lifesteal for you.

Your damage is now 500. Apply similar logic to my first post. The math adds up.
