Can anyone explain the matchmaking system?

I'm really, really confused. Every time I climb up one division I get matched with people way out of my division (my team doesn't help, but I'm still sometimes the reason we lose) and I get crushed. Almost every game. Then I get demoted, I easily win, and then the cycle of losses and win continues. It's a really viscous cycle and I hate it. Can anyone help me?

The cycle of life and death continues. We will live, They will die.

You can play with people 1 tier above or below you. Silver plays with bronze and gold. It's random matchmaking so you might get matched with silvers all day if you're bronze, or maybe the other way around. If you enter silver from bronze you can suddenly be matched with gold, hope this helps.

Riot says it's accurate matchmaking, but you'll never know because everything useful is hidden behind their veil of MMR.

As far as I can tell, it's an elaborate game of getting the matchmaker to think you're high enough MMR to award large LP wins but not high enough that every single team you play against is a lot higher-tiered than your own.

Basically, it's hell.
