Don't play champs simply because they are "OP"

manliestdino··31 votes·1,694 views

I've seen this a lot more lately, but a lot of people in ranked recently play a certain champ because they are "OP". I am in bronze, but still, playing certain things because they are "OP" is a really, really, really bad idea. I actually had a Nidalee who went 0/3 and said, "It's ok. We will win because I'm OP." We lost that game. I see all of these Vis play her and say,"omg vi is so op it's gg" and we lose. Play champs you're comfortable with. Play that Rumble you have so many wins with. Don't play that Kalista first time because she's so strong (even though she is a different problem).

Few types of "Im Op" behaviour I seriously hate.

Scenario 1

Vi : mid DrMundo : U kidding me right...? Vi : Chill, I got 14/2 as mid Vi (which in reality, she fought a Bard) DrMundo :...ok then

Vi dies repeatedly & got 2/14, and retardedly blames team

My moral/advice for this scenario: Stop bragging about things that is in the past, and not related to current games.

Scenario 2

Evelynn : Jungle Fiora : dude, dont pick Eve, she sucks. Evelynn : But I main her for 5000 years (you get my point :p) Fiora : Juz dont pick her please, you have Nidalee? Evelynn : uhh yea? Fiora : Pick her, she is definitely OP in this current jungle Evelynn : (but I just bought her) ok fine

Nidalee feeds a hella lot of about 0/12

Fiora : Report Nidalee for feeds pls, tq Nidalee : ...u fking idiot

Moral/Advice: Let them pick champions they are comfortable with, not champs which has to satisfy your taste while ignoring the guy's opinion.

Me: Picks Nautilus jungle (my main) ADC: LOL Naut jungle Me: ??? ADC: He's a way better support rofl ... I'm way more comfortable with him in the jungle so I picked it, but I can play him support, mid or top lane and be fine with it. Just because something was in the LCS doesn't mean that's the only way to play something.

Naut's been a jungler for years.

Tell him to inhale your dong

I remember supporting naut seasons 3 and 4... Those were the days

Ariel the Cruel5 votes

I remember a time... Roughly a month or 2 ago...

When playing support Naut was a reportable offense. Sheep are funny.

I was playing Zed a while back, and my lane opponent was crying about how Zed was OP.

It was a mirror lane.

Yeah, but a lot of people do that and can't play to the level they could if they just really learned a champ that wasn't as strong and were fully able to use the champ. Plus I think the OP is complaining about those couple game learning curves where people pick it in ranked and then don't accept responsibility for throwing hard by playing poorly while they learn.

Aelvr3 votes

You should learn how to play the champ in normals.

Ace Access 3 votes

there are players in normals that think you shouldn't play normals with new champ if you can't guarantee a team win to satisfy their condescending egos

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

I only take offense when you "first time" a champ in normal yolo queue.

Play a game in bots first. You shouldn't spend your first minute in fountain reading all your skills.

Rinky Dinky1 votes

Yeah that's why first time Shaco's, Nidalee's, teemo's, Zed's etc do so good right?

Oh wait.

Nidalee Riven MasterYi Kalista Four of my fav champs that i play a lot. Why? Not because they are op, but because i have fun playing them.

OnanThaMan3 votes

Yes the reason LeeSin is so fun is because he can shit on people. That's the problem though he shits on people to easily. Aside from Yi on that list i dislike playing those because i feel cheap playing them. If given a choice to JungleNidalee or Elise i'm gonna pick elise every time, because i feel it's more rewarding to succeed with her.

LittleBlast2 votes

As much fun as shitting on people is, i just feel so good when i do something like animation cancel or dodge a ult as yi. I also simply enjoy being mobile.

Onimus Terlain1 votes

Winning is fun, yea?

LittleBlast1 votes

More i like the knowledge of getting better.

ShinobisDemon2 votes

We have all had the dude first pick Yi because "Yi is OP as Hell yo" and then go 2/10 by like 14 minutes and has fed everyone's lane.

My main rule for using new champions is as follows.

  1. Research the new champ
  2. Play the new champ in normal/teambuilder
  3. Did you play well, did you feel like you mastered the champion fully?
  4. If not, repeat step 2 until you have gotten the grasp of the new champion.
  5. Play the new champion in ranked (when appropriate of course)

I never play champions that I am not experienced with in ranked, it's really that simple.

I would change step 2: Learn the champion basics in a bot game or two (or custom). Then take them into normals.

Other than that, this is a good plan.

I think it's alright to play champs that are good but require you to know what youre doing. On the other hand, people also love to play champs that 'require skill' but generally have some kind of cheap tactics to fight against.

How about I pick something which I'm uncomfortable on AND is considered trash? huh? how about that?

"pick things you are comfortable on if you want to win"

yeah no shit sherlock.

I'm a collector of them,I like making fun of idiotic shit like this thread, but as we all know these forums aren't exactly filled with intelligent people,so I get them a lot.

Lol the nid example is so funny since she is OP due to early pressure rather than scaling or utility. God that is funny.

I've seen so many people believing that if they use an "OP" champ they can cheese games with it.

Our Jax jungle just completely crapped on the enemy Vi while bot lane with Sivir put Kalista into the dumpster.

I would love to play the champions i like but the only problem is having to deal with those "OP" champions. For example picking karthus and then getting a danm fucken leblanc >:( (hate that fucken champion) or using hecarim and just 100-0 carries with his 0 counterplay assasinations.

If you want to climb effectivly you should get good with meta champions.

Ahurath1 votes

Well ok if you have like no other time then ranked yes playing a very few champions regardless of meta is the fastest way to go.

Rinky Dinky1 votes

If you don't want to climb you mean.

People who only play fotm champions are almost always the one's stuck in bronze and silver.

Ahurath1 votes

No I meant what I said. Get good at meta champions.

Salidfingers1 votes

If you want to climb play none meta champs that destroy meta champs and create a new meta

but ranked is a better dynamic to test champions on. EG i played Malzahar a couple times in norms recently. Got crazy fed and carried.

but similar to Swain Talon Veigar Nautilus (top), the same results dont come in ranked. similarly, Warwick sucks in my norms, since feeders lose the game before i hit 6. but when i play ranked, people tend to play safer and dont die 3-4 times in lane before i hit 6.

Nidalee SO NYAAA1 votes

Like when I pick Nidalee into Yasuo and people are like "omg you noob Yasuo counters her" I just tell them I'm the most comfortable with Nid. They keep telling me to pick Zed and I'm like I DON"T PLAY ZED

I did that with Kass before his silence nerf....I've regretted it since

I play Shen because fuck anyone who thinks that they can win top lane.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

Braum You want to win? Ha, no. Want a kill? Ha, no. You want to snowball? Ha, no. Want to roam? Ha, no. Want to pull a lvl 1 cheese kill (looking at you, Riven)? Ha, no.

Want to farm and not die? Ya, I can probably accommodate that.

Chaotic Reks1 votes

i kill when the enemy dives my turret. but they will never take my turret

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

until they freeze the wave and force you out of turret to farm.

Chaotic Reks1 votes

minions have other plans tho

Fasmodey1 votes

That's way I dont want to buff Syndra and Azir from Riot. Some people will blind pick them if they become op.

Onimus Terlain1 votes

This has been happening since the beginning of competitive gaming. The best item/build/strategy/character is used.

It isn't like April 2015 was the first time someone thought to use the strongest character.

It's a type of playstyle. You got your Spike players, who only play FotM. You got Johnny players, who intentionally plays off meta and the Timmy players...who just like blowing things up (mostly ADC and Mid mains)

Then you got your loyalists, who will play characters to death even when they're awful.

Beertaster1 votes

People who play champs for being "OP" tend to solo dive and die a lot and complain "Bu, but I my damage, I have so much damage, I could of kill em them all if it weren't for that meddling CC. Don't worry guys I'll penta kill them next time." -- yasuo, zed, kat, and yi noobs
