Does Aurelion Sol still exist?

ApexInTheCircle··62 votes·5,952 views

Or did he get deleted? Because I've actually Seen Urgot and Yorick twice in the past week and I haven't seen Aurelion Sol since just after his release so I just assume he's been erased out of the game completely.

He has a high skill curve and is very expensive which makes people unattratced to him. Nonetheless he is an extremely powerful champion if played well and his amazing roam and late game are not to be laughed at.

AurelionSol Boop.

GaleWinUnleashed14 votes

THAT is to be laughed at. But not the power behind it.

Rand0mH3r0X8 votes

I still laugh when I die to a strong Aurelion Sol.

This. He's actually a pretty tough champion to play. Most of his damage is in his W and passive and I find it difficult to consistently boop people without item 3116 . Not to mention missing CS by hitting the wave with your stars when you don't want to.

Marshbouy3 votes

extremely high skill curve as in, he cant do shit if there is a meelee on the enemy team?

Cheekynorth1 votes

Close enough. Any ranged champion with a stun also renders him incapable of doing anything against them if it's not a ultimate

Marshbouy3 votes

For example ahri. E W Q run out of range with Q movementspeed. I really, really tried to learn this guy but you always feel like you are losing

Cheekynorth3 votes

when you play Aurelion, everyone is a melee champion, and the only way to avoid them is your ult

Captain Aishi2 votes

my most bullshit moment on aurelion sol is when I fired my Q at a caitlyn, and then she did 2600 damage to me and killed me before my Q got into range to stun her X(

aside from the fact that you're not even a champion until you finish roa and rylais which makes his early game always annoying to get through

Jet Sett23 votes

The ult nerf hit him so hard he's seeing stars.

kile14711 votes

To be fair, Lee and Rek are the only ones who don't see stars when around him.

Overnerfed .... that's all.

Supreme Senpai696 votes

Nerfed his W rightly so. Gutted his R. Only had a 1% playrate to begin with :/

I used to take him jungle but been seeing a lot of premades lately. Which is whatever, but they tend to do things like invade and steal buffs in groups, and Aurelion is a sitting duck for those things. The nerfs did not help with that.

Near 55% Diamond win rate.

Somehow overnerfed.

Some champs take mastery to play.

Voluug133 votes

He had 55% Diamond winrate... for the 3 people that even played him.

He simply fell into the ''strong but not FotM'' group, which previously to the MYMU consisted of all those high winrate ultra low playrate champions like Malzahar, Swain, Heimer, etc.

Rito forgot that and nerfed him because who knows.

They nerfed him specifically because, for the few that put the time into it, he was EXTREMELY powerful, more freelo than even Kindred is atm. Also, he still is, but only for really good players.

I wouldn't be surprised if he caught more nerfs in the future. It's basically the Nidalee issue but it's mid lane, not the jg.

Chicken Sailor12 votes

I wanted to main him so badly. Got him to mastery 5 like a week after his release. There are just so many matchups that he can't do anything in and it feels frustrating to be so powerless. Basically any fighter or assassin with a gapcloser just destroys him and all you can do to stop them is ult them off of you.

Marshbouy11 votes

go top lane and get dicked on by meelees go midlane and get dicked on by champions with burst go jungle and have a mediocre clear and get dicked on by far better junglers. Just let me double tap q, please riot?

That's his only flaw that's stopping him from being played.

The delay on his q literally makes him unplayable

Only Play Darius2 votes

That's the intended weakness of Aurelion though. AP DPS champs like Swain/Karthus historically are very oppressive to melee champs, Aurelion Sol has counterplay and is better design

Chicken Sailor2 votes

I agree he has counterplay and a great design. That's one of the reasons he is frustrating to play as. If someone gets on you then you literally can't hit them with anything other than your ult. Even immobile mages like annie and veigar can hit you with something when you get on top of them. Sol is just dead most of the time.

CasterGilgamesh3 votes

yet they under-tuned him IMO his stars should orbit at least a little faster.....

Voluug134 votes

Its not like Swain and Karthus have ludicrously bad laning phases and are only good against melee glass canon midlaners, in Swain's case.

Karthus has basically no good match-ups.

RhaumX9 votes

I don't think it's just a skill curve thing. Even when I was using him, getting s ranks, and tons of kills, it just didn't feel rewarding. Killing people with a passive just feels lame.

Profirix8 votes

Honestly, from my own personal experience, the reason I don't play him is because he just takes too much effort to be successful with. Constantly monitoring your positioning with your stars is exhausting. Its not rewarding like normal poke is, and it just feels monotonous. You land a Viktor E and you feel like a king. You sit there and land an Aurelion W and you feel more like a sawblade as you slowly whittle them down (if they let you). And IF you can even land his stun (which appears to miss a lot more than it should based on the animation), you aren't rewarded with anything more than a 1-1.5 second stun, which isnt enough time to take advantage of your W because you still have to keep them at a particular distance! With most champions, you can get in front of them or beside them so its much harder for them to escape you. You can't do this with Aurelion because you have to stand something like 550 units away at all times to deal damage!

It's because people actually play Urgot Yorick because they are unpopular and well, us nerds like doing the unpopular. As for AurelionSol, as other people have said, he's rather difficult and hard countered by some pretty popular picks Leblanc Azir Zed Fizz

I was really surprised when they decided to release him with such a terrible kit for the current meta.

Not even the current meta. Almost any meta other than the immobile adc meta ruins his kit, and we haven't had a meta like that for a long time. I don't think we're going to have an immobile adc meta either due to how prevalent mobility is in other roles. Lucian, ezreal, and caitlyn will almost always be useful in both soloq and competitive play.

Magical Zoe5 votes

It's because his kit is bland and boring.

It's because his kit is bland and boring.

People were expecting something more interesting from a dragon - his ult is lame and his Q is basically Anivia's Q.

Cubíx4 votes

It's because of his awkward playstyle that makes him very unpopular. I have a friend who still plays him a lot.

Evewynn4 votes

He's strong but hard to play. The multitude of nerfs after his release shrunk the already small player base, in addition to the fading of the new champ smell. He's got his players but they're shaking hands with the yoricks and the urgots down at the bottom of the popularity barrel.

Swiftstrike44 votes

He is a high skill cap champion that sees a lot of success in higher Elo (which is why he was nerfed multiple times), but not as much success in the main player base (silver and Bronze).

doombotMECHA3 votes

I know this one person one some other forum who mains him, btu that's pretty much it. that's what happens when a champion isn't broken on release.

The Yetii Rider2 votes

I mean no one plays Illaoi or Tahm Kench anymore either. Kindred is the only new champion that's stuck recently.

ThePompf4 votes

I see both of these pretty often.

Does Ekko still count as "new"?

AFK Push2 votes

The only new champs that I don't see anymore is actually AurelionSol and Kalista

It just seems that zoning mages are not all that popular to most people. I think he is fun but requires me to be in a different mode to operate him. He's a very unique champion that requires a different approach to lanning and just isn't appealing to most. Taliyah to me is much more frustrating to use than Aurelion Sol but even she is more more popular at the moment.

Abyssphere2 votes

He's the least popular zoning Mage in the game by a fair amount, though. Even really weak ones like Syndra are much more popular.

I would be happy if they just let his Q be detonated at close range, Like Anivia Q.

as a diamond aurelion main, that would make him too strong IMO. Melees would get NO chance against him (when he has some items and his ult, they're already pretty screwed against him). It is indeed a pretty noticeable weakness but that's by design.
