Recognition will NEVER fix support as a role. EVER. PERIOD. Stop acting like it will.

Why? Because there's nothing special going on when others do shit, either. We get little things going for kills and objective secures, and everyone's faces show up on the side of the last-hitting champ. What else are we going to do to make supports feel like they pressed buttons? Massage them? Whisper sweet nothings in their ears? Give them Ferrero Rocher chocolates? This is basically tackling the wrong issues. It'll be fine and good for retaining a few support players maybe, but not garnering new ones. The real issues lie in the game play of the role.

Hahaha I like the comment about the chocolates. I for one would love a chocolate every time I set up a sweet play! ;D

But yup I totally agree with ya

Yeah, Ferreros are my faves as well. So good. So hazelnut. <3

Supports are normally better as play makers, but since the recent champions have better play making champions than the supports they release (along with nerfing any support that does decently), I don't really see supports changing a lot.

I'm thinking they might show something for clutch heals, multi-CC and the like. Maybe even show them alongside multikill banners if they contributed enough.

While I don't think Support is "broken", so therefore there is nothing to "fix", it's undeniably not very popular and is most certainly due to a lack of a few things, recognition being one of them. The feel of personal impact is probably the largest factor in its lack of popularity, but it isn't a solvable problem; you can't just give them the ability to Pentakill the same as a mid laner, otherwise you're just another carry and cannot be called a support (Carry "supports" are actually pretty strong right now, play that).

A few things:

  • Making support gameplay more interactive and hands-on with the enemy and the match doesn't have to make you a carry to do so.

  • Allowing supports to not hit like butterflies doesn't mean you have to have pentakill potential to do so.

  • Telling me to get over it and play a mid laner in the support role, using mid laner items that cost a crap ton for the role, rather than actually making support champs/items that fit a more hands-on, aggressive play style when there's clearly an audience for that type of gameplay, seeing how that's the very thing that LoL caters to in general, is ultimately lazy. Do you think the other lanes play LoL to spam shields from a bush? Why do we expect that to be fun when forced on every support champ in the game? (obvious hyperbole, but we are forcing heal/shield on support as a role too much)

I especially agree with this last part. I think riot is forcing the heals and shields a lot and I don't like it.

Support items are really cost-effective and supports are not doing too bad. I just feel like they need more outplay potential. So not necessarily outplay potential to get triples or pentas but outplay potential to setup matches for team mates to get triples and pentas etc. One example comes into mind is nami's ult which is very good to initiate a team fight for your team mates. I would love some dashes and stealth on supports and obviously they are there for escapes and etc not for burst.
