If getting worse teams in promos is just a myth, why does it always happen?

Every time I get into gold promos its the same thing:

  • I get matched against a far superior laner and can't effect the map.
  • The other lanes are also stuck against better players and feed
  • The jungler can't get pressure anywhere because the enemy team has better players in every lane

How am I supposed to do anything when all 5 players on the enemy team are better than all 5 players on mine? How are you supposed to win when nobody can get out of lane and you can't play around anyone? How am I supposed to get promoted when the matchmaker is decides that not a single player on my team can be allowed to get a lead? This has happened far too many times for it to be just a myth.

It's not a myth. It's something people say because they don't understand how the back-end of the game works. Riot places you against people who are better than you 51% of the time and places you against people you are better than 49% of the time. In promos you are ALWAYS placed against people who are better than you.

The old system was better imho. The ELO system rather than the MMR system. Win a game and gain the average elo that the enemy lost, the enemy loses the average elo that your team gains. Go up and down the ladder. The "leagues" bullshit is just some dumb mechanic to make 12 year olds feel cool.

What the hell are you talking about...

Riot places you against people who are better than you 51% of the time and places you against people you are better than 49% of the time.

No, Riot places you against people as close of your own level as they can 100% of the time.

In promos you are ALWAYS placed against people who are better than you.

In promos, the match-making treats you exactly the same way as in any other game (except you can't be auto-filled).

The old system was better imho.

The new system is still what you describe. Elo and MMR are only two different names for the same thing. The match-making only uses your Elo/MMR to decide in what game it will put you, not your League Rank, and the way you win/lose MMR after a game is what you describe. The League system is just a layer of paint on top of it to hide your Elo/MMR, but it doesn't change how the system works under the hood.

The "leagues" bullshit is just some dumb mechanic to make 12 year olds feel cool.

Well, at least this part is true, minus the insults. YES, the League system was added to make people feel good, and give them a sense of progression over the year. But that doesn't mean the match-making works differently than before, it's still the same, because it does NOT use your League Rank to match you...

And what about the 4 other people in your team? They are all in their promos, so they are forced to lose too? That's unlikely...

Or what about the enemy team? Did the match-making really think they all deserve a free win? Why?

Because that's what people like you always forget. You're not the only one affected by the match-making. If the match-making wants to force you to lose, it also needs to force 9 other people to play an unfair and rigged match, and to find exactly the right people that "need" to win/lose.

The other 4 members of your team are not always in their promos. Riot actually matches you with people who are worse at the game more often than not. The idea is that if you deserve to climb you should be able to carry a bad team.

That still makes no sense.

What about those 4 other people worse than you? They aren't supposed to carry, so they are just supposed to cross their fingers and hope you carry, or lose their game without being able to do anything? How is that fair for them? Why would the match-making punish those 4 guys just because you're in your promos?

Stop seeing things from your own point of view and think about the consequences of what you claim from the other player's perspective and you'll see it makes no sense. Do you regularly find yourself with people better than you because they are in their promos and are matched with you as one of the 4 people worse than them?

Just looked through a little of your match history. It's actually amazing how good the matchmaking is in your games. Every single person is between S2 and G4 in every single match I looked at.
