First of all, success in this game is mostly due to practice rather than raw intelligence, just like in most activities. In fact, compared to StarCraftII, Chess, Poker, Go and many other games, there is very little intelligence actually needed. It's mostly mechanical skill along with some very basic strategy. There is a dearth of creativity in build options and strategies employed in solo que. You don't need much abstract thinking and strategizing to excel at LoL. It's fairly formulaic and Riot likes it this way so that new players aren't scared off.
Secondly, being good at a particular activity doesn't imply you're automatically intelligent. That's an unsubstantiated leap in most cases and even more so for a game like this. It doesn't work that way. Intelligence is extremely complex and even IQ tests are a poor approximation with a fairly narrow definition.
Thirdly, I'm high Gold on my main account and haven't played on this one in years. Even there, ranking up was never a big focus. I like to play offbeat champs and experiment (Kennen JG, AP Varus, AP Kog, Kog JG etc.). I could spam the latest FoTM OP WW or other similar champ exploiting the latest patch and rank up but it would be inane and not particularly enjoyable.
Lastly, your statement is a red herring.
I'm not trying to be insulting but this is just my experience. Out of Chess, StarCraftII, AoE and countless other games, the LoL community is by far the least intelligent in the forum discussions I've participated in. This discussion isn't even that bad compared to most I've seen.
