Can We Stop Complaining About Akali?

Pals Before Gals··2 votes·1,425 views

Seriously, it's getting annoying. I hate opening the boards and seeing so many players complaining about Akali's kit (mainly her W). There are far better champions to complain about (in my opinion) like Udyr

There are these things called counterplay.

Firstly, you implied Udyr is a champion it would make sense to complain about. Which means you think there's an issue with him.

Secondly I'm unranked because I don't want to bother adding stress to a game I play for fun. It's unreasonable.

People find Akali as a bizarre opponent since she can do shroud under your turret to avoid turret shots then kill you in seconds, let's be honest, her shroud denying turret shots and targeted abilities (when she's under said turret) is pretty bullshit.

I recognize that fact; the thing that gets be slightly annoyed is how people hyperbolize the skill cap necessary to compete with her in her shroud. Lets be honest: how many times do Akali players towerdive in her shroud? Very little, because an Akali near your tower is like free kills for the jungler, especially if she towerdives.

Hey guys,

Let's keep things respectful in here and leave Rank and insults out of our discussions. I've hit a small edit (not something I usually edit) in the OP to remove what was causing the negative responses. Instead of debating Rank and skill, let's try talking about the facts of each champion and explaining why we feel one is more difficult to counterplay than the other.

Hey! By that logic this thread breaks the rules! Just so you know, like, to do your job and take it down since it called everyone who's made an akali thread unskilled, which falls in line with the rule against mentioning rank.

I already removed the offensive and problematic part of the thread as mentioned in the edit message to open this thread up to productive discussion.

Well, no, actually you didn't. The thread has all these downvotes because it broke that same rule by calling everyone complaining about Akali unskilled. Not because it's complaining about the existence of Akali threads.

And any thread whose OP doesn't call for productive discussion, like this, is already not fit for the boards.

It's really not cool to see mods not doing their job and applying the rules unevenly.

And even if you're going to ignore that particular rule, this thread is Boards Discussion, not Gameplay.

It has downvotes most likely because people are not fond of Akali and believe her to have no counterplay.

And any thread whose OP doesn't call for productive discussion, like this, is already not fit for the boards.

That is a matter of opinion. We really only enforce a specific quality of thread in Gameplay + provided a thread is not obviously spam (this is not).

It's really not cool to see mods not doing their job and applying the rules unevenly.

There is nothing in this thread that breaks the rules. If you are frustrated about a moderator action, please come to the Discord rather than making accusations that derail a thread.

And even if you're going to ignore that particular rule, this thread is Boards Discussion, not Gameplay.

This is not suited for Discuss the Boards as it is more focused on Akali and the frustration of seeing people complain about here whereas the OP feels she has counterplay. This opens up discussion about Akali and her counterplay.

I will not discuss this further as we are only derailing this thread.

Not really.

Counterplay is little to none against Akali. Acting like there's plenty of it won't help your argument.

She has a practically free heal, true stealth in a wide radius, and massive damage potential. She's the equivalent of Bigfoot. Elusive and nearly impossible to see, let alone hit.

No matter what you Akali-haters say, there will always be one stagnant opposing evidence: win rate. She has ABYSMAL win rates on all elos. That's basically my argument in a nutshell. If she was Bigfoot, then Zed would be like a literal AurelionSol

doiminat0r36001 votes

The problem with the win rate argument is that it's a % value. If 80% of the akali games played are played by those who know what they're doing, then the winrate is going to be higher. Since she's FOTM, she can have lots of people picking her up that don't know what she is doing, her winrate has dropped significantly.

Also, if we want to go down the road of winrate, then we should also consider ban rate. She has the highest ban rate of all champions at 6.29% which is almost .3% higher than the second most banned champion (Neeko at 5.92) and a full % higher than the 3rd highest (Yasuo at 5.03%).

If you'd notice, all these champions with high ban rates have negative winrates. The only exception has been Neeko in the mid lane with 50.3% WR.

It seems to me like the most annoying champions get banned more often and thus get played less often by those who know what they're doing, leading to a lower winrate.

I would normally agree with you here, but Akali was released months ago. She's not the FOTM; Neeko would be at this point. The sad part is that her winrates are in the low forties. If you compare that to Nunu, a champion released a month after Akali, you'll see a huge gap in winrate. Hell, even Neeko has surprisingly good winrates despite being released a week ago. Face it man, Akali is just overrated.

No she is FOTM. She's been a strong point in the meta for almost 5 months.

Being released now doesn't mean FOTM. If it did, then Urick would have been FOTM when he got reworked, and so would have Galio. instead, both of these champions only got a negligable increase in playrate (< 3% increase).

FOTM = flavor of the month which generally occurs if someone is strong for an increased period of time.
