Syndra Mid + Starting W + Unsealed Spellbook + Smite
"Thanks for the blue buff, I'll take it from here."
But seriously, could this work? There's a similar strat with LeBlanc taking W first and smite but this is much more reliable.

Maybe can work, but if the enemy see it coming you are gonna have a bad time.
Interesting idea, I've considered it before. Stealing the enemy's blue buff would not only derail their jungler's early clear, but would also give you a free early laning phase as you walk in with level 2 and a blue buff. A fully-upgraded jungle item with the blue enchantment is cheaper than Luden's Echo, too, while still giving you a decent amount of AP and the Runic Echoes passive. You just miss out on a bit of CDR. In the midgame, you can walk into the jungle, smack the big chicken, and regen a huge portion of your missing mana for continued sustain.
It's risky, but I think it could work in the right situation. My main concern would be not having a damage keystone, which is critical for many midlane mages.
You take a small risk early, get an easy early game with all the bonus mana/gold from taxing the enemy jungle, then just scale hard with your lead. It's kinda like the gold funneling strategy, but in reverse. Riot is still working on an "elegant" solution to the problem of people farming both lanes and the jungle, but even if you just take blue buff for that early level and mana advantage, that can be game over in the first minute.
predictable. Wont be realistically allowed to happen, and then youll be punished for running spellbook.
You'd have to rush the jungle item since the monster hunter passive is back
