Riot says they prioritize making the game fresh and interesting...

...yet so far what is happening is the complete opposite. Thanks to Damage being the bar of viability, you have the same roster of barely 25 champions out of 135 played in high elo games, big playmakers happen once at best which leads to the ALREADY HORRIBLY LOSING team to suffer an ace.

Listen up, When we said we were sick of the 3rd tank meta in season 6, we did NOT say we want a damage meta. No. We said we want the tank meta to stop. We didn't want damage up, we wanted resistance down. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE. Edit: to all the idiots who actually think they can twist and turn this argument to belittle me: When you nerf resistances, you majorly, and almost solely, influence tanks and their stats. by buffing damage, you influence EVERYTHING. Tanks, squishies, mages, support, lunch fucking everything. Please, I keep telling people to not be so surficial with arguments just to start a fight, Not only is it absolutely retarded to try, but it is an embarrassment for yourself to top it off.

Veterans keep leaving, announcing that they quit on the boards or on reddit, or even on stream. The Typical big time streamers are slowly but surely moving away from LoL, the faces that make it mostly popular, people like Pokimane, are more often than not seen playing fortnite as just the most well known example out of many. LCS has had only one interesting thing to see in this entire year and that was the taliyah/karthus crash that erased the whole game, giving the team with the leading scores a win by default.

New players get consistently turned off by LoL. The BE farming system cripples them from getting 20 champs anytime soon and capsules have shit drops, only after lvl 60 do they start dropping shards from champs worth over 1350BE, at any moment prior to that you are dependant on farming chests and keys to get any high price champs so you can break the 20 champ owning bar. Just so you get into ranked. Before ranked, it means you have a fucked up limited choice of champs to play, which half of whom you have no time learning, the others are too unviable or too tilt-magnetic to even try more than once, leaving you mostly unintentionally to onetrick a champ you vehemetly despise just to avoid being called a troll 8 games out of 10.

League of legends is definetly not dead, but Riot has audaciously shown off that they have found the way to kill it, and with each patch it feels more like they are holding the game's throat by the knife. If it becomes interesting first, then efficient, then within the next 2 patches that becomes "fixed". And that is fucked up. Trying to fix the fun out of it in an misunderstood manner of making it more interesting, which really, you did not manage so far.

LoL is becoming pale and monotone as well as purely stress indulging. Fun is about as much a myth as a unicorn at this point. If this is your understanding of fresh and interesting Riot, then i fucking dread to see how hard you are gonna bring ruin to game you intentionally want to see burn.

Rant over, nice monday everyone. hah. yeah right, monday and nice. off i am to take my meds thanks to this shit rant.

Lol riot will keep power creeping the game regardless of almost every single player telling them not to, and telling them that they don’t like it.

People have been complaining about weak towers for a year... Rito: buffs baron minions, weakens nexus towers, buffs rift herald, adds rune for one shotting towers, makes mages capable of two shotting towers, continuously buffs damage accross the board.......

They made ONE good change, when they buffed baron, but they quickly jumped to “fix” that by gutting barons damage.

The balance team is retarded. Hashinshin is NOT over exaggerating. They need to be fired and replaced.

The sad thing is, when people leave a game, they tend to leave it for good. The odds of Riot "regaining" those players is basically nil at this point. The least they can do is stop the current player count from going any lower, but despite the meta basically being the cause of all this, Riot continues to go full steam ahead, as if they have some kind of grand plan to make everything great. No one wants to sit around and experience the god awful state the game is in while waiting for Riot to make everything amazing again.

Not true. I quit League after Season 4 and barely played Season 5, 6 or 7. Now I'm back playing as much as I did in S4. Not sure how long that will last though, because frankly I agree with the OP. The game is in a bad place.

Yeah...just because you did this, doesn't mean everyone else will too.

I haven't played in quite a while now and make no plans to return, all my friends quit, (One of who deliberately got themselves perma'd so they couldn't return, not kidding), so the only chance that I'd try League again is if I hear that they've improved it.

And yeah I still occasionally browse the forums.

I was waiting since season 5 . The game has been going downhill since then.

Karunamon1 votes

The meta's a part of it, but I think the larger part is tox. Put simply, Riot's stats be damned, this has been the absolute worst season I've ever played. I can put up with losing. I can put up with having to basically re-learn how to play all over again.

Add in people with a mental age of twelve who start screaming and inting after a simple mistake? Not worth it anymore. Doubly so when whatever is being done doesn't appear to meaningfully reduce the problem

They keep doing more and more mistakes, and I don't know anymore why. No company in the world could afford to fail this much. We are in JUNE. End of June. And things are just getting worse and worse, instead of improving. Season 8 is a joke.

fifalegend2 votes

The problem is that they keep adding stuff like the missions. And instead of improving them and making them interesting ,they just decide to ditch them. They say ''okay we are done with this , now lets start working on something else''.Adding new and more interesting missions will make the game more enjoyable and keep it fresh. But no they prefer not to. This is something so small but can make bigger change than them completely fucking up something else. There is no need for such a big patch that changes the whole meta. Nobody is enjoying that kind of change to be honest.

Yes, I think the new meta is great. The only thing it needs is a small balance change in the jungle. We need meta's like this which will bring freshness and challenge to the game. For every complains league always had meta changes like these and this is nothing new. People complained the last meta they will complain the next. The big-time streamers are playing this game for a long time and they deserve a break just like you, me and everyone else. League has enough depth that veterans keep coming back. People quit video game due to priority rather than the game itself in many instances. Also, I can understand that Diamond is the most competitive elo and veteran players have learned the fundamentals of the game and the competition is very high therefore usually people who say they will quit/leave the league and come back are diamond players. Or some people leave because they do not have the attitude to learn after being stuck for a long time.

you realize that lowering resistances would increase damage, right?

If you lower the resistances tank items give, it indirectly increases damage against tanks. But not against squishies.

if you play a video game as a job and for multiple hours a day you will eventually get burned out.

But what are the chances of these people suddenly getting "burned out" all at once? Normally it would happen progressively.

the BE system is better for new players and the similar to the ip system for lvl 30+ players. Here is a video regarding the BE system from Riot

Them saying "this is better" doesn't actually make it better. Maybe it is better, maybe it's not, but that video isn't proof of anything.

I can't tell if people that make posts like these are tilted from being hard stuck or just low iq.

To start off, Riot literally made bruisers, mages, and traditional marksman all viable bot lane. If that combined with the scuttle change, changes to jungle exp, baron change, introduction of new items, plus countless other changes that I didn't mention along with the standard balancing changes that they implement every patch isn't enough for you to at least think that Riot doesn't "prioritize making the game fresh and interesting" then idk if your just tilted, have awful reading comprehension so you can't read the patch notes, or are just so low iq you can't make your own conclusions regarding the game besides what your favourite streamer says. You literally haven't even played the game since April 1st, unless you are playing on other accounts and posting on that account?
I'm positive in your bronze and silver games you can play literally whatever champion you want and the "25 champions out of 135 played in high elo games" doesn't effect you. Also, there are countless examples of people playing off meta champions and getting to challenger so just cause x champion is op doesn't mean that is the only champion you can play.

"We didn't want damage up, we wanted resistance down". Unless Riot nerfs every single champions base damage you realize that lowering resistances would increase damage, right? It's statements like these that show low little intelligence you are working with or devoted to this question.

Next statement "Veterans keep leaving". Yes, if you play a video game as a job and for multiple hours a day you will eventually get burned out. You are obviously burned out of league and only have 120 days played according to the wasted on league website. Imagine doubling or tripling that number and doing it in a shorter time period. Veterans can get tired of literally any game, it doesn't have to be league of legends. And without these constant changes that I talked about earlier that Riot has done, these players would be leaving at a higher rate.

Alright onto the next one, "The BE farming system cripples them from getting 20 champs...more complaining about the new BE system being worse then the old system". No, the BE system is better for new players and the similar to the ip system for lvl 30+ players. Here is a video regarding the BE system from Riot, at 2:50 to 3:00 [(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yq2i6RDmbNc)] "But, you'll be able to unlock champions about as quickly as before and at lower levels it will be faster than before".

If you dislike league of legends and are burned out don't play the game. Making a baseless and incoherent rant on the league of legends forums won't stop you from being burned out and disliking league of legends. I normally don't bother posting on here, but I've been reading so many people complaining about league of legends for the sake of complaining.

If you've been reading so many posts of people complaining lately, wouldn't it make sense that an increasing number of players are becoming dissatisfied with the game? I can play games for years and not get bored of them. I started playing league of legends pretty much exactly a year ago. I was having a blast up until season 8 began. At first I was really excited, but by now I realize the game is getting worse and worse. I think if the meta didn't drastically shift to this unfun one-shot or be one-shot, then maybe the game wpuld be more tolerable. If you want to stick to your argument, that's fine, bt just know that a lot of people agree that the game is going in the wrong direction.

Ding ding ding we have a winner. People who enjoy playing the game are.....playing the game and not flocking to the boards or reddit. No one goes to a forum and posts "wow I really love playing X". It doesn't add anything besides generally getting people to agree with you. There is no conversation to be had.

The only reason I remotely frequent these boards is out of boredom at work or while I am in queue/playing another game. The current meta is the most fun I have had playing league in years and the OP is objectively wrong in his statement on "only 25 champions viable" when we have champions like Heimer and Fiddlesticks seeing play bot lane and have MANY champions played in the bot carry role compared to the 4 pick/ban adcs for the past 4 years. Also, as much as I hate the very design of the funnel strat it is still technically even more champions that are viable. Champions like Mordekaiser, Master Yi, and Heimerdinger would have NEVER been thought of seeing the light of day in competitive play yet see play rather consistently across regions.

Karunamon1 votes

Indeed.

Now, what do you make of the reports of perpetually-offline friends lists and famous streamers moving on?

kurnubego1 votes

That people in time grow up and have to attend to other responsibilities in life. Gaming becomes less of a thing. Also gaming is poor man's hobby due to it's accessibility and bang for the buck it can provide. This also changes once people grow up get better paying jobs and can afford other kind of entertainment, for example, motorbikes or tennis etc. Not saying that sums up all the gamers. Saying that people like that sum up a big portion though.

Also playing same game in time gets boring. People like to discover and enjoy different things. Even if the game is rather well. For LoL to be alive for .. what 8 years now and still kicking, that's a rare thing in video game market. Yes we do have story driven games we return to, or perhaps games which offer vast modding options which keep the crowd revisiting, but for intense pvp game... nothing really came close to it for so many years and it still stands strong even today. That's rare.

Remeber overwatch? was a huge hype and disappeared in a year as a huge contender, still is, there is plenty of people who enjoy it but the hype train didn't last long. We'll see about fortnite though. Deathmatch "battle royale" becoming new trend. For my taste it's stupid. But hey, I'm no longer playing video games as much as I've used to, due to reasons explained in the first paragraph, so I really don't worry too much about it. :) I also have some old story drive classics to return to (modded skyrim, mass effect trilogy), and some "new" to experience, like bioshock, dark souls or witcher. I'm fine.

I still log in to have a clownfiesta in lol time to time and watch some of the competative games because I find them entertaining, especially with midseason 8 meta.

For 'streamers', SRO exploded in last two years. Also, streaming is not a real job. :D It's perfectly natural that people move on. Or sometimes they just get bored of the game and don't feel that playing it like a chore is of benefit to anyone. Like Neace who's playing fortnite now. But that rarely ever happens because "to tanky tanks" or some nonsense like that. Although a person may throw that as justification. And sometimes, they might even believe it? Hah, sorry don't want to pretend I'm a mindreader, but I do think people understand it.

And sometimes. Sometimes it's actually rage quit.

The Act Man on youtube made a great video on this, and solidifies how I feel about League. I'm one of those veterans you speak of. I've played way before Season 1 and shortly after Swain's rework, I knew it was time to throw in the towel. I've seen a lot of changes to League but personally the worst change was when Riot prioritized money over fun. The scale is tipped too far in one direction. I don't see a reason to return.

LegendaryScrotum2 votes

If you quit after Swain's rework why are you on the league forums? You quit so why are you posting on the forums like you care about the game still? Makes a lot of sense.

Master A 014 votes

What are you talking about? The game is amazing right now. I've literally seen champs who I haven't seen in years get played and do well in matches. Right now it feels like you can play anyone and as long as you know how to play, you can win the game. It's great

Avicou1 votes

I mean technically you're not wrong. You can play pretty much anyone and win. Except a crit ADC. Or a mage. Or a bruiser. Because it's just hyper carry assassins, juggernauts, and tanks now. The meta has shifted on its head so much that there is no meta. "Fun and interesting" is NOT the same as "completely unpredictable", to the point where you don't know the match up in your own lane. I've had several games since patch 8.10 that have had a triple team bot lane the entire game, instead of a jungler. We've won most of them, because giving the only jungler the entire map is easy money, but it's not fun. It's frustrating and unrewarding, like most of the rest of this game. Top lane is gank city, mid is either a noodle fight between two mages or a one way shit stomp because Johnny McAssassin finished his Duskblade. Jungle is a joke since you have to play around a stupid water bug that holds the most experience in the entire jungle. And bot lane is just non existent anymore. Anything goes. It's a lawless wasteland, just like the balance team as a whole.

Riot has completely ruined the balance of the item system by removing items and reintroducing parts of them onto the rift in more items that have overtuned stats and passives. They refuse to admit that runes and masteries were a mistake from the start, and spend too much time trying to iron out mistakes caused by their own stupidity instead of removing them (Conquerer, Fleet Footwork, Predator). "Fun and interesting" is NOT the same as "let's add several layers of meta gaming that takes the delicately balanced ecosystem and throws it out the window". At the time of their introduction, runes and masteries were another way to diversify your champ because there were not nearly as many items as their are now. We do not need additional layers of customization anymore.

Never mind that, as pointed out by thousands of other players, Nobody wants these changes except for Riot. Never mind the backlash the mage update got, or the crit item tree changes got, way back to the class updates that drained the diversity out of a bunch of characters at once got. Riot no longer knows what's good for the players, and they don't want what's good for the game. They want what's good for LCS views, and they want what's good for money.

Riot does not give a shit about anybody's gameplay experience. Full stop. And now it's biting them in their collective ass, and that is a good thing. This game could be so much more than it is if they just stepped up and fixed their fuck ups instead of applying band aids.

chipndip11 votes

Today I learned: Taliyah, Ryze, Zoe, Brand, and Heimerdinger aren't considered mages for some reason.

Also learned: Vayne and Xayah aren't crit adcs somehow.

Vhan87653 votes

'Riot says they prioritize making the game fresh and interesting...'

And then do everything in their power to force player back onto Summoner's Rift cause it's "the main game mode". Sometimes I want to play LoL and actually have fun without being told to "get cancer and die" by someone in an SR game who is over worrying about every little action each /teammate/ does.

Now'a days, if you want to have fun while playing a game actually, you close League of Legends to do so.

I still havent seen these tank meta's No champions picked because they can tank damage but rather because they can cc which adcs and mages contribute their part to. Riot did Put resistances down and hp down in season 6 they just also raised damage. Season 3 is the tankiest season i remember with 6k hp tanks with 250+ armor and 200+ magic resist and that wasnt a 3 tank meta they still got shreaded by assassins. Boards is telling riot dont give tanks damage give them cc and riot is pileing them with tons of cc then Boards cries i died while im stunlocked and they wonder why when defense is garbage and tanks have cc but adcs and mages also have cc even assassins. You can remove defenses completely and will still have tanks who dont scale with damage being played because CC lock which they can chain their harder to hit delayed cc off of adcs and mages easy to hit fast cc with tons od damage because they allow the damage carry on their team to play more care free and thus more aggressive so they can win the fights earlier. What you can do to change this is either dont give adcs and mages cc or make defenses good enough that classes outside of tanks will consider some defenses that arent just damage items with tacked on defensive stats.

Well for starters, the OP's post is a facet of my own opinion and I wanna add to the conversation. Lastly, if we're speaking logic here - I can still care about a game that I no longer play. Hence, why I'm on the boards.

kurnubego1 votes

I'm fascinated how many people here know how to balance a very complex system right out of the bat. No, game balance isn't just two variables damage vs resistances. For example, downfall of crit adc's isn't just due to crit item changes.

No you haven't pointed out something obvious. That whole bunch of people who work on game balance for many years and actually do it for the living have way higher competence than you to determine it. Secondly, they probably already though about what you said before they even introduced the changes. Just sayin'. If it was so easy to make 'perfect balance' whatever that means, we would already have it. We don't, because it's not easy. And what you're suggesting doesn't solve anything.

I also remember half a year there was so much crying about how bruisers are useless, the infamous and not very bright hashinshin rant was a thing at winter. And as I've predicted when and was downvoted, we are here again, no complaining how other champions have too much damage xD

Eternal Torment7 votes

This current balance team works for Riot only since mid season 6, before Ghostcrawler and meddler, there was morello who did the balancing. Why do you think season 3 to 5 were league's glory times? Because Morello did them.

The current balance team together cannot hold a candle to the old balance leader alone.

PS: Your message is true, which only further underlines that the current balance team cannot compare to the previous one. Meddler and Ghostcrawler both admitted that they do not really play the game at all, and Ghostcrawler actually displayed his lack of facts over LoL by getting an argument debunked by his own coworker during an interview.

This seems really contradictory. While I agree that a healthy place would be somewhere in the middle, all you're really doing is shouting into the void with no real answers.

Instead of going "yes, and", you're just saying "No." and this really doesn't help the conversation.

If you could offer detailed ideas as to what you would like to see changed then things can be discussed, but as it currently stands, nothing can be agreed upon.

Brother/sister , RIOT only cares about flashy LCS plays to attract new customers and new pllayers that will buy cool looking skin .

If they cared about the playerbase that have been playing for a while , they would have nerfed the overall game damage for a while now .

The only fun i have playing this game is playing twisted treeline these days because " if i have only 2 teammates , its less chances to have one of them inting or trolling than if i have 4 teammates " .
