Another type of adaptive effect on the example of Sightstone.

Sightstone

  • Cost: 800 Gold
  • Recipe: Ruby Crystal + 400 Gold or Amplifying Tomb + 365 Gold
  • UNIQUE Passive: Grants quarters of up to +200 Health or +20 Ability Power, adaptive.
  • UNIQUE Active - Warding: [...]

The Active effect and the Eye Items would not receive the adaptive values. If you want to opt for the Ability Power you simply choose Eye of the Watchers.

The effect works somewhat differently from regular adaptive effects, as most Ability Power items offer Health as well and Supports buy a mix of the two. The effect gives you a percentage of the adaptive values based on how much you have invested into either stat. So anything from full values (you've invested nothing in the other stat) over 3/4 and 1/4 to half-half. The values are higher than just 150 Health because they can be split.

Also introduces the possibility of having different recipes for the same item, which could give Riot more tools to work with when balancing items for different classes and damage types, especially if they eventually do bring in adaptive items.

Ruby Sightstone

  • Cost: 1600 Gold
  • Recipe: Sightstone + Ruby Crystal + 800 Gold or Sightstone + Amplifying Tomb + 365 Gold
  • UNIQUE Passive: Grants fifths of up to +500 Health or +60 Ability Power, adaptive.
  • UNIQUE Passive: Reduces active item cooldowns by 20%.
  • UNIQUE Active - Warding: [...]

Grants fifths to be a little more nuanced.

I don't see why sightstone has to be a thing. I would rather see trinkets improved more, so that nobody is forced to buy an item that the team NEEDS every game. Yellow trinkets could just scale better with game time.
