Neither are the enemies. Anything they ban is a 95% chance they were not picking it anyway. And if they intend to pick it they are not banning it.

Nobody is going to ban for you. You have your ban, I have mine. Whether in champion select or on the boards, what I ban is my business. I am not going to tell you what to ban based on what team you are on or what I don't like fighting. And I will ignore ypu telling me what to ban.

Seriously. Everyone has something they want banned for their reasons. If your top hates fighting Darius they are not switching their ban to Yasup just because you want to spite a champion. You can use your ban on that. Nor will I not ban Lee because I am on a specific team on the assumption that the enemy team has my back. Lol if they are banning Lee on my behalf they were not planning on playing it anyway.

These "Blue bans x and red bans y" posts are not only illogical but extremely selfish and presumptous. If I play bot don't expect me to ban Lee for you. I am banning Cait or Lulu or Draven. If I am playing top I ain't banning Yas for you, Trynd is easier and more powerful in my elo I will ban that binary shit.

I hope I got my point across clear. I am not banning for your spite, you cannot rely on the enemy banning for your spite and if they did they weren't going to play that champion anyway. I will ban what I think is a problem for my elo, personal abilities and team comp. You ban whatever you want to ban.

Ten bans is about everyone having their ban, keep your vendetas in your ban.

Edit: just to clarify. Nowhere is it said don't communicate with your team on bans. Offering your ban or asking what to ban are not wrong. But don't expect me to ban for you.

On the topic of Selfishness Selfishness is not eating your egg when everyone gets one.

Selfishness is eating your egg then demanding somebody elses.

If they offer you their egg that is fine. That means they are being selfless. But demanding it is the definition of selfishness.

TLDR: everyone has one ban now. Stop telling people what you want banned.

Navarune2 votes

I agree that demanding others to ban the champions you want banned is never a good idea--or demanding anything specifically of your teammates in general. However, I don't see a problem in making suggestions for bans, especially in cases where particularly obnoxious picks are still up. For example, we lock in bans for Fiora, Master Yi, and Lee Sin (I've banned one of those) while the other two teammates are still thinking over their bans. I suggest (and make it clear that it's a suggestion not a demand) banning Leblanc and/or Zac. I also don't get upset when they ban Yasuo and Teemo instead, because I respect their right to choose their own ban, but by God if you are playing anything other than Tryndamere top with that Teemo ban, I'm staring angrily into my screen and going "wtf really dude??". That's never translated into the game itself though.

These "Blue bans x and red bans y" posts are not only illogical

and empty of content nothing is learned nothing is said but subjectivity

i wish the gameplay board was better than that, and as long as those upvote farming threads aren't banned it's going to remain shit

i personally learned to deal with this ban system, idc about double bans, idc about op champions being open anymore i'll just dunk solo queue

GD needs to be brought back to front page where you can make shitty posts like "Red side bans x blue side bans Y" and other nonsense like that. Gameplay & balance needs to be reserved for posts with actual points and arguments.

Yeah I find those threads a disgusting waste of space on the home page. Not only does it not logically work but they also completely lack any discussion content. They get upvoted because the word "Yasuo".

Just to clarify:

It's still alright to ask for X champion to be banned. It's not like everyone only has 1 champion they want banned. So long as you understand the difference between asking and demanding a champion is banned then we're good

Mira Arya Enthe8 votes

This right here. The point of the post is not "Don't communicate on bans" it is "The enemy team is not banning for you and you don't have rights to your allies bans either."

Good message. Not only are these "red team bans X and Blue team bans y" posts incredibly presumptuous, but they are also jerk moves. How would you people like it if the champion you loved to play for thematic or lore reasons were suddenly permabanned just because people hate the champion and want to spite their mains? That just isn't cool.

We should be banning champions to increase our chances of winning by avoiding a bad matchup or eliminating a counter to your comp. If that champ happens to be Yasuo or Lee that's fine. But there is no need to have a vendetta against a champion.

These "Blue bans x and red bans y" posts are not only illogical but extremely selfish and presumptous.

This post is even more selfish and presumptous. It boils down to: "I don't want to listen to my team, my ban is my ban, fk you guys, I'll ban whatever I want."

You aren't not communicating, you're just refusing to cooperate.

Mira Arya Enthe10 votes

Correct. I am not required to "cooperate" with demands. If they ask for a ban and I see reason to ban it I may. But if my bot lame demands I ban Yasuo and I am top lane I am not wasting my ban on Yasuo to "cooperate" with their demands. Nor are the enemies going to ban him for us when they intend to play him. I will decide that ban and would rather ban Fiora.

Troll for Trump3 votes

The thing is, it's a group game. And it sucks to bend over (supports especially).

If your team wants a Yasuo ban but you want to ban Fiora, you banning Fiora, even if it's supposed to be your "right" to ban Fiora, will only encourage hostility, decrease teamwork, somehow make you toxic, etc.

Same thing with other parts.

You should have the ability to play off-meta, but when you do, you're stuck at a cross-roads; pick off-meta and get flamed by the team, or don't pick off-meta, and play something you don't want to play.

The team game aspect is a double-edged sword, for many reasons.

One negative part of the team aspect is having the 4 other teammates constantly watching over you, restricting what you can do as an individual, for the sake of the team.

Mira Arya Enthe16 votes

To sum up what you said. "Somebody might get mad if you don't obey them so you shouldn't make your own decisions."

I don't live that way.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Yeah, that's a problematic mentality that's been growing a lot lately. "Don't tell me what to do" mentality.

Sometimes, self-gain isn't the best option.

It's also especially hypocritical to call the people making the posts selfish and presumptious, when this post is encouraging people to go do their own thing and ignore what others say with the aforementioned "Don't tell me what to do" mentality.

You can live that way, people just often won't like it.

Rito has double standards regarding it.

Mira Arya Enthe11 votes

Yeah, that's a problematic mentality that's been growing a lot lately. "Don't tell me what to do" mentality.

Okay let me word this very carefully.

There are 5 players on your team. 5 players get bans. They have 30s to ban. Discussing strategy is fine. Asking what you should ban is fine.

But expecting or being expected to burn your ban on something you disagree with, when that other person had/has their own choice on what to ban and likely used it "selfishly" without consulting you to make that decision for them. Is unfair. And saying no and banning what you feel should ban. Is not selfish it is making the decision you were given to make, just like them.

I cannot explain it any simpler than that, in any more plain terms as I am already bordering on insulting levels of simplicity.

Troll for Trump2 votes

Idk I just don't see how it isn't objectively selfish.

Banning what you want is good for one person (yourself) and bad for 1-4 other people. Banning what the team wants is good for 1-4 people and bad for one person (yourself)

You have the ability to decide for yourself at the end what to ban. What would be unfair is you not having the final call in whether or not you get to ban a champ.

But when people are suggesting bans, they aren't influencing that.

It is just a suggestion, saying "can someone please ban X" isn't forcing you to do anything. I can't see how that's selfish.

If you FORCE it onto people, then it's selfish.

EXPECTING people to do that is usually selfish too.

Luxychan5 votes

If they really wanted the champion banned so bad, they person would use it themselves. Now that everyone gets a ban, the responsibility is your own, not anyone else, to ban what you don't want. You get 1 ban, make it count. If I am going to support and know what I'm weak against, I'm going to ban that. Especially if my ban benefits both myself and my adc.

With this system, there should no longer be a "can someone please ban X" since you can ban it yourself.

edit: spelling error

I think I can see what you're saying. You're arguing that people should cooperate to combat against a perceived "I shouldn't have to cooperate" mentality that you disapprove of in a team game, am I getting that right? The latter can definitely be selfish in the wrong circumstance, but fortunately for them this isn't that circumstance. If everybody has 1 pick and someone decides they don't want to ban what somebody else wants them to ban, that's not selfish in this case because if that person really wanted them banned they can now do it themselves--to argue otherwise is to imply someone should have say over 2 of the team's 5 bans, which is selfish when everyone has their own equal share. This isn't quite the same as when 1 person held all 3 of the team's bans and them not banning anything based off team suggestions--that's selfish to not work with your team at that point.

I do agree that we're getting to a point where a need for individuality is trumping the need for teamwork and that's worrisome, but this just doesn't happen to be a case of that manifesting.

There's a difference between saying nothing and just doing as you please, and communicating everything you just said and all your reasoning for not banning and then asking for that matchup because you win it often if they do pick yas. I find the second option preferable and the majority of the player base does as well.

peakachu5 votes

some people dont really care who gets banned or not. so if someone asks for another champ banned then they'll probably be open to do so. either ban it or dont. its not really a big deal.

Mira Arya Enthe2 votes

This is addressing a different matter. Also if people don't care they can say so or ban something random/highly meta.

peakachu4 votes

just overall, i think its a waste to complain about this. its not like anyone can force you to ban any particular champion. so the whole "demanding a ban" is easily countered

Mira Arya Enthe4 votes

I am tired of zero effort, low discussion posts clogging the main page because it had Yasuo in the title. So I am calling out what is illogical and never going to work.

If the enemy bans Yasuo "for you", there is a very slim chance they had any intent to play him. If thei intend to play him they won't ban him for you. If you want him ban you ban him. You cannot count on other randoms, especially enemies, to "have your back". For example. I am not banning Yasuo because he has never been a direct threat to my W/R or game enjoyment. I ban things either I lose to that are commonly played or things I feel will crush my team comp/lane choices.

So you cannot rely on me banning Yasuo for you.

@mira

On the topic of selfishness in the context of a team sport: any one banning anything out of spite is ludicrously silly. Even if you are bot, and I tell ya not to ban cait or lulu, I probably have a reason, a strategy, and a gameplan devised after 37,000 total matches of league to deal with that if it's picked. When the team agrees and you still ban it cuz it's "your" ban then you've commuted the cardinal sin of team sports: selfishness. It's not your ban. No one person has an egg. The team has 5 eggs. You distribute them amongst the team according to needs, not desires. The whole team decides who all the eggs go to or you've already increased your chances of losing 10 fold. Lebron doesn't have 3 timeouts per half... the Cavs have 5 or 6 or however many it is. Team game is team game, there is never room on a team of any sort for personal prejudice, the good of the group overrides all.

This is why your thread is problematic as posted. It's wording is not great and it suggests you support uncooperative play styles, which I happen to know you don't. I'm point out that your thread is poorly constructed because it's actually a quality topic that should be discussed so the title and the contents need to match thematically to appropriately reach your audience. This thread stands a lot better chance of true success if it were properly clarified. I'd certainly like for it to spur the discussion is has the potential for.

(I'm telling you that no, you did not get your point across clear.)

Mira Arya Enthe4 votes

Titles are political, topical and to catch eyes. If somebody doesn't have the time to read the contents completely that is their problem. Several people have not. Which is fine. It is on the top of the home page, which is why the title was designed as it was. To be a direct counter to the Yasuo and Lee banning thread. Also, I completely disagree. Comparing League to other sports is unnecessary, it can be compared to League.

There are 5 players on your team. Five of these players get 1 ban. Each is given a decision to make. If I am bot lane and you tell me not to ban Caitlyn I still will. Why? I know I will lose that lane, you do not know my needs better than me. That is why each person now gets 1 ban. So we can all make our decision on what to do.

We have 30s to make that decision, which in most soloQ situations is not enough time to plan some big team comp. But if people do more power to them. You got a ban, I need Caitlyn banned, if she isn't I will lose lane. So you use your one ban to accommodate the needs you see. I will use mine for the needs I see.

That said. If I am playing jungle and feel no need to ban any particular champion. I am more than willing to put in chat. "What should I ban." Which is selflessness. But that does not make using your ban for your needs selfish. What is selfish is using your ban for your needs then demanding somebody else use their ban for your needs. That is what happens with ban demands 99% of the time in SoloQ below Diamond.

What is more. Is I don't know you and your plan. And I won't get to know you and your plan in the duration of champion select before bans are made. If you put a team strategy it is still my decision whether I trust that from a stranger or not. If I do then I have still made my choice with my ban.

Well, I can't say any of us in high level play will agree with this. You can come to know your mates in 10 seconds or less, and craft a full gameplan in 4 sentences and 30 seconds. So if that's a skill you lack and what not I dunno what to tell ya. This is a pretty fundamental skill to have.

No one player on a team should get complete control over a decision that affects the whole team. That's silly in the upmost. Yes leauge can be compared to other sports.

You're being unusually obtuse today.

Oh well, this thread had a chance.

Challenger players know these things out of instinct. Banning for the team doesn't even have to be though about its second nature and just looks like personal bans but most of the time it's just the expected ban given the situation/previous bans.

Do you play at that level?

The things that are instinct for us are not for the majority of the playerbase. Suggesting to the playerbase at large that less communication and more narrow self invested focus is not only flawed, it's ludicrous, and your thread is worded in such a way as to suggest such.

I read the whole thing. I know you. I KNOW this wasn't your intent. This is why I said your bad thread was bad before you literally suggest to most average players that they shouldn't want to work with the team in lobby on all strategic aspects.

High level players get where they are because this becomes instinct.

Low level players need to first learn to walk before they run. They need to discuss and work on their teamwork skills until they become instinct.

To suggest anything else is a disservice to the entire community and your thread does exactly that. More over from a poster that usually brings quality content.

After 3 years of quite enjoying quality Mira gameplay posts, this is a true low. It is the lowest quality thread on gameplay at the moment and is garnering the most attention. On a good topic none the less. Yeah.

Bad thread still bad.

I get what you intended though. You might clean this up and give it another shot. It'd be worth it.

Let's see if I can be more specific. That title, much clickbait, very antagonistic, very anti team. No good.

"These "Blue bans x and red bans y" posts are not only illogical but extremely selfish and presumptous. If I play bot don't expect me to ban Lee for you. I am banning Cait or Lulu or Draven. If I am playing top I ain't banning Yas for you, Trynd is easier and more powerful in my elo I will ban that binary shit."

Right here you literally admit to personal prejudice and inadequate skill (tryn in my elo, instead of banning for team you ban something in low elo because you can't deal with it when it's a complete non factor in high elo, you suggest it's right to not even put in work to learn the matchup). You absolute cannot use this as a point in favor of your case as it contradicts it. It's precisely why you (read as "individuals in general") shouldn't be allowed a ban and they should all go to the team captain.

You fail to go into enough detail on the aspect of showing an intended pick and what that necessitates in the ban phase (your top shows some melee top laners like I dunno garen or some shit, you know that's a weak pick you need to devote team bans to that lane, you find out what he can beat and his ban prefs) although you allude to it and it's inferred from the context.

Also there's the whole slightly hostile attitude and snobbishness to it as well.

This is a great topic that could spur great discussion and potentially even get a red comment.

No red will currently comment in this thread for the reasons I mentioned.

Mira Arya Enthe4 votes

I had no intention of a red commenting on this. It is a counterpoint to threads demanding people make specific bans like Yasuo and Lee and in champ select complaining if you do not ban what they selfishly demand you ban after they used theirs.

Since it was posted the other post lost a lot of upvotes and most people understood the intent of this post.

Me banning Trynd is not a counter to myself. He is not a spite ban like Yasuo. He is a relevant ban in my tier of play because nobody can deal with his split pushing that I play with. Banning for example Shen in my tier would be pointless, he works best on well coordinated teams. So if my team demands I ban Shen because he is ban in the LCS. I am not wasting that ban because somebody said so.

You are too focused on idealization and not the realism of the soloQ game. Ideally everyone would jump in a discord call, be respectful and coordinate together perfectly. I'd love that world. That is not what happens in SoloQ. In SoloQ your bot lane bans Yasuo then demands you ban Lee or they will feed. In SoloQ many people ban spitefully or just based on what they saw in LCS. I am not here to fulfill that for them. I ban what counters our pick intents and is played commonly, or what I know I cannot beat and is played commonly(exception being in normals where I am glad to face my counters for practice.)

Edit: just to clarify. Nowhere is it said don't communicate with your team on bans. But don't expect me to ban for you.

When I say for example "Nice the other team banned fizz for me" I mean it as I don't have to ban him anymore and I can use my ban on someone else. Like no shit if they ban someone they're not going to pick him.
