get Cleaver instead of Mallet and switch Shiv out for Deadman's.

I'd switch warmogs in favor of deadmans instead so that Yi still has the split push potential

he's still yi, hard cc still screws with him in teamfights :p

Which is why you wait for them to use the hard CC and Alpha Strike your way out of the stuff they haven't used yet.

a gross simplification of how to play yi but you're technically not wrong. It's a lot easier said than done as well

Yes, but that is at the core of what he does. He's an assassin at heart, who gets high AA damage in lieu of the traditional assassin ability damage. So naturally you need to wait out CC. And, like every other assassin, it's harder to pull off than just talking about it.

That's where practice comes in.
