I really hope Riot get's rid of this BS first tower gold

Kaisa is Hot··77 votes·3,910 views

Either side will have a bot lane that fed out the ass cause of the 5 man ganks bot, all for 1st tower gold and just because bot tower has like 0 defenses.

I'm so sick and tired of either side having an absolute garbage time bot because of this BS. First time I've been demoted since I started climbing from B3 and past 3 games I get bot lanes that go like 1/13.

First tower bonus is a terrible idea, it only serves to a snowball effect for a winning team.

Ad Vitam Aeterna6 votes

Good, little snowballs like this should be around so average game time doesn't go back up like it was in seasons past. I've played countless games where teams got first blood turret and still lost, it's not the end of the world if you lose it. It does help competent people though, and it gives another thing on the map to shoot for instead of just everyone afk farming until 25-30 minutes for teamfights.

People afk farm until 25-30 minutes ??? It's either clown fiesta bot, lvl 2-10. Top TP's as soon as bot gets aggressive. Mid roams and the jg cheeses with level 3 shenanigans. Bot tower is taken. Laning phase is over pre 10 minute marker, either bot takes their lead to take tier 2 or comes mid to attempt tier 1 mid. At which point they either throw or successfully take it and the game becomes stale trying to catch up on farm and waiting drags. Etc etc... This meta. Who farms for 25+ mins. Unless its a smart group of players waiting for mid game-late game spike/scaling.

Ad Vitam Aeterna2 votes

You just proved my point, people don't afk farm in this meta, they try to make shit happen early for the leads like first blood turret and drags. I stated in seasons past they afk farmed for the first 25-30 mins.

Charmed by Ahri1 votes

Ohh I misread. But even S2 S3 S4 S5 S6 I can't recall a time in which people afk farmed for 20+ minutes. There are those occasional games were people seem to just farm. But I can't recall a time where that's all people did... Maybe LCS? But not ranked. Always something happening somewhere on the map.

Troll for Trump2 votes

The only time when AFK farming was viable was in season 4 where top lane was dominated by wet noodle fights (rengar Tank, Mundo, Nasus,Tank Shyv), followed by a Midwaveclear meta(ori/Ziggs). Then Riot kept accelerating the game more and more

Charmed by Ahri1 votes

Wet noodle fights. You know tank fights are exciting! Lul. But I still don't remember such metas. Too many metas to keep up. Surprised you remembered such a boring one. But thank you for the S4 mini recap.

Troll for Trump2 votes

I remembered that meta because that was when I picked Darius and punished the sht out of people for picking lategame scalers. It was basically win pre-20 mins or fall off.

The meta was filled with lategame scalers, and those were picked the most. So, sheeple would follow the meta path and also pick lategame champs. No one though of picking bullies. The LCS wasn't as developed back then, so NA was less influenced by Korea and whatnot.

A meta with draggedout games is the healthiest; it accurately shows the strengths/spikes and weaknesses of lategame and bullies.

In that meta, however, midgame champs were the weakest, as their window was the transition period between Early and late, so it was awkward for them.

Current meta is primarily early-based, with some mid-game and very few late-game.

Some late-game champs, however, are also abusing early/mid-game

It was the last time Ziggs was viable, where the top mids were him and Xerath. Don't get me wrong, I love Ziggs, but watching him force a 20-30-minute laning phase every game wasn't fun.

ChaoticPinecone1 votes

S4 was definitely the worst, with farm heavy junglers, bruiser-but-built-full-tank top laners (Renekton, Shyvana, Mundo), and long-range waveclear mids (Ziggs and Xerath).

S2 was kinda bad. There was a lot of waveclear and farming with less map rotations, but at least the early-game junglers like Xin and Jarvan were popular and would attempt many ganks. Plus the lack of wards across the entire map forced more fights. But the lack of ADC power pre-4 items meant that a lot of games went 6 items (or at least 5, with the 6th being GA).

Ipressbutton2 votes

I want longer laning phases, it's my favorite part of the game. If players wanted faster matches another MOBA , HOTS, already caters to that crowd.

Stop with the snowballing Riot.

I'm fucking tired of being 2v4. I swear to god this bullshit just increased toxicity.

Blåbæret12 votes

I love it when you leave your tower for a few seconds and it's gone before you get back taken down by a zero item enemy bot lane. Good stuff.

DunkinNoobs7 votes

First blood tower gold brought early game champs back into the meta, and I love it.

Oh, absolutely, look how Lucian Draven are doing great in this meta while Vayne Twitch keep losing games.

That's an early game meta right there, yes sir.

Twitch and Vayne are a product of the meta unfortunately

Or it could be that they received direct and direct buffs to the point that no matter how shit they are at two items they are deleting squishies?

Leetri1 votes

Vayne doesn't gain a positive win rate until ~32 minutes into the game (it's as low as 43% in the first 25 minutes), so she's definitely weak early. Twitch is pretty damn strong though, he never dips below 50%.

SpecterVonBaren4 votes

Why does everyone say Draven is an early game ADC? He's strong at all points of the game, the only thing that makes him fall off is the skill of the player using him because it becomes harder to juggle axes once you get passed lanning phase and start getting into team fights.

Exactly. Draven and Lucian are perfect examples of early game ADC's, although Draven is a beat late game too. Yet fkers like Vayne Twitch are dominating bot when they are suppose to be late game champs, because they have cheese kits to go along with how god damn cheesy the jungle is and the champion pool that surrounds it.

Big Lincoln1 votes

who's back top lane? I haven't seen Renekton in ages and Pantheon only shows up every now and then

DunkinNoobs2 votes

The top 5 most popular top laners right now are Riven Darius Poppy Yasuo Jayce

Big Lincoln2 votes

rest in piece Renekton bar

Darius being top tier is my favorite. Top lane is the only good part of season 7

TeCoolMage1 votes

poppy and yasuo are late game - riven is mid game, jayce is early game though but the reason he's in meta is because of that % AD buff to his form change

UkeNeverSeme2 votes

Poppy an yasuo can both create early game adcantages though. Which is why theyre good, current patches are all about hard scaling champions that have cheesy mechanics to make them win early game, since snowballs are so hard that midgame dips dont exisg anymore

Played any top lane lately?

Miror B4 votes

See, I'd much rather see the defensive turret bonus be applied to both sides, instead of just top-lane. Then it'd not only get rid of the lane-swap thing (harder to do a lane swap if the bot/top turrets are incredibly hard to kill) but it'd also solve the concerns players have had over towers being super easy to nab and not at all helpful early game.

Spaceman5pff6 votes

But making one side easier to kill is what keeps lane swaps away.

If both sides are equally hard to kill, then you WANT to pick push lanes and just swap + shove in the sololaner.

Making them "lopsided" was the SOLUTION to lane swaps.

IMHO, the way to go is to leave towers how they are, lopsided with one side easier to kill, but give ALL turrets a passive where they gain resists per nearby enemy champion. The idea being that it still makes bot easier to kill, but 4 manning the tower is harder to do, since you wont get it in one go. Not having that guaranteed tower take decreases the risk / reward ratio of 4/5 man ganks on botlane early for the tower.

KVbqbFsC8e4 votes

That was changed because of the LCS. Nobody liked watching laneswaps in pro games.

Carnerox3 votes

Well it was specifically done to counter lane swap meta in competitive play.

resumed3 votes

they won't

it's the only thing that keeps laneswaps from happening in 100% of games in lcs

Ariel the Cruel7 votes

But remember, Riot doesn't enforce any meta. It's their official policy!

Yeah but lane swaps were incredibly terrible to watch.

Translation: boring. Standard game: give the turret to the adc, switch lanes, give the turrets to the adc, meet at mid for an aram. (Have they got to mid yet? Not yet. Yawn.)

Snowplosion3 votes

No, the reason it was introduced wasn't for us commoners. It was put in the game to stop the lane swap meta in LCS and competitive, and it worked. It sucks for us, but competitive was so damn boring to watch with the constant lane swaps.

Cowseed3 votes

You can't 2v4? Seriously? Pffft. Noobs

TurquoiseYoshi2 votes

I'm surprised that you're getting 5-man dived at the 4-5 minute mark.

Spaceman5pff2 votes

I mean OP is using hyperbole, but the core idea is there.

TurquoiseYoshi3 votes

What I mean is that bot tower defenses are equal to every other outer tower at 5 minutes. You can't complain about low tower defenses in bot lane if it's the same as every other tower.

LuxannaVeritas2 votes

I agree.

Also, most 4-5 man ganks are SO EASY to avoid if you have the proper warding. If you're on blue side, ward river (if the enemy are able to sneak behind the dragon pit to gank bot lane from the tri-bush, then your solo laners must be blind if they didn't ping MIA.) If you're on red side, ward river and tri-bush, if you can. Once you see them coming, retreat. It's so simple.

4-5 man ganks bot lane only work when your opponents are ignorant. If you do manage to pull off a 4-5 man gank without 3-5 people being in a premade, then you pretty much deserve to get that first turret bonus.

Anyone that understands how squishy that outer bot turret is doesn't need a 3-5 man premade to group and take it down. Also, in the event you had adequate wards up, the best option you have is to retreat and give up the first tower & first tower bonus.

Assuming the allied laners attempted to rotate with them (this is assuming the enemy doesn't have superior waveclear/roaming capability), it doesn't necessarily mean they'll fail at securing the turret nor does it stop a repeated attempt.

However, I am fond of the earlier suggested remark stating RIOT should consider giving the towers some bulk if there are more enemies within x range of the turrets. This could not only offer a potential fix for the bot lane massacre, but also may introduce more interesting counterplay during group turret dives.

it was implemented to force pro players to play standard lanes, you cant afford to lane swap and let whoever went 2 bot to get first tower. and it worked, pro games are much more fun to watch

Depends on your perspective. Not sure if pro-games are that much better to watch. I guess it's still better than watching golf, baseball or the first three quarters in basketball.

since they started going standard lanes, there's a lot more action, trading, and killing going on. You can see it in the games. imo its more interesting to watch now. ssg v skt was amazing.

The main reason for the first tower gold was to get rid of lane swaps in the LCS. Riot has been trying to get rid of lane swaps in the LCS since season 4 as it basically made the game way to slow for their tastes. Until they figure out how another way to keep lane swaps out of the pro games where most of their money is coming from now they wont get rid of first tower gold.

Not sure if slow is the word. It literally became a case of teams meeting up on opposite lanes, burning down the turrets then just aram'ing with the occasional objective.

UkeNeverSeme1 votes

Honestly dont agree. A lot of games were like that, but at the highest level (samsung white) lane swapping were INCREDIBLE. to watch. Sometimes for the immaculate macro play crushing slower thinking teams into submission, and sometimes, especially with the magnificent ssw performance of 2014, it was about surprising the enemy team with plays not possible in the "pro game laneswap meta" without magnificent outplay.

Nipsahoy1 votes

I used to like bot lane a lot but it's a lot harder to enjoy it now. You either get really far ahead and are relevant or you get crushed and you are useless until you farm for 25 minutes. And or whatever reason I'm always on the team that decides ganking or helping bottom lane in anyway is just not a priority.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

I believe first turret winrate is like 70%. and that was before the first turret gold. that was last season.

LatetotheRace1 votes

Didn't this serve a purpose? And do a damn good job at it too? I say we just buff turrets and return the bot lane shield.
