Yes, give us some info about his rework, it has been long enough...Or atleast give him the QoL changes (removing cast time on abilities) the community has been requesting for years.

If I were you guys I'd hang on to this GP as long as possible.

We all love Gangplank when he has Infinity Edge, Trinity Force, and Statik Shiv. Mark these words, if and when any sort of rework comes, you will watch as Riot crushes that Gangplank.

Gangplank's rework will probably turn him into something like Sion, which isn't necessarily bad, but he will become a champion which will have one and only one playstyle. Old Sion was able to be an AP burst mage, a tank, or a Tryndamere-like AD carry, now he is only a tank. And he's a wonderful tank.

Just know that if you like Gangplank for his flexibility in builds and playstyle, you will stop liking him after his "rework".

I used to main Gangplank and I still play him often and to be honest he's in a rough spot. You can't tweak his numbers too much or he will become "toxic" as Riot likes to call their own designs. Riot will never, and I mean never, just take away the cast time on his E simply because "hurr no counterplay".

The change to his ultimate was a step in the right direction in my opinion but he is still just an outdated champion. His passive is only relevant in the very early levels and that's only if you're lucky enough to go against a champion who will let you apply all 3 stacks. His E is only relevant early as well, since it's almost never optimal to put a second or more points in E over Q or W. His W is great but the heal gets less and less relevant later into the game. So, in conclusion Gangplanks kit seems to offer a very good early game BUT even in the early game he is out-damaged and out-classed by almost every top laner, even the ones that are not being picked. Why would you pick him when the following do his job and are better. Gnar His auto attacks and Q hurt much more than your Q spam, remember you go OoM and he doesn't. He also has more damage, mobility, cc. Jax He is a better fighter and even a better initiator Riven More mobility more damage. Her E > GP W Pantheon Q spam better than GP's, more CC, better teamfighter, his global ult is better than yours.

Hell, even the AP midlane rejects people are taking top walk all over GP. He has no waveclear, his damage is laughable unless you build glass cannon, his mana costs are high, and he provides much less utility than most top lane bruisers.

I am not entirely sure how to fix GP, I've always wanted his passive to be able to scale with AD or even AP so that its damage means something. The slow isn't enough. I have to hit someone 3 times for a 21% slow...

You say a rework would make him lose his flexibility in playstyles but most of the builds currently used aren't actually viable against decent opponents. Critplank works in normal if you get fed or low elo ranked but anything over in terms of skills, you become useless as you're squishy and have no 1v1 capabilities whatsoever.

The only build that is currently somewhat viable is AD bruiser so I wouldn't mind having Riot transform him into a champ that is only playable as a "Fighter".

I just don't understand why it is taking them so long, esp if it is only one ability they're looking into reworking...

They could at least give him some form of QoL fixes so that he becomes viable while we wait for his rework.

To be honest I think it'd be better if he gets turned into a Jayce type champion. He could switch between sabre and pistol. I don't know if it's a good idea or not but I'm just rambling about, I need sleep.

Keep the discussion going though!

I agree on most of the things you've said: should he get reworked, he'd get the Sion treatment (or perhaps the Trist/Zilian one :O), his passive is only strong early game (and so is GP overall) and scales badly, his kit is worthless if compared to that of most toplaners, his critplank build is uncompetitive etc...

I'm not versatile at all with him, my core build is item 3078 item 3031 item 3087 item 3065 and, one between [item 3035 / item 3142] and [item 3143 / item 3110]. I just change the build order according to how the game is going and who my opponents are or what they are building. He still explodes if focused and deals extremely low damage to people with at least one armor item, but the worst part is the 50 % crit-chance that is not reliable at all. I think it's the best compromise on him, though. I can't build anything less damaging 'cause I feel he'd do absolutely no damage otherwise. And having no hard CC in his kit, nor high base damage on non-existing offensive skills (except his Q and... his R :S) he'd be useless imho.

I'm quite confident that he'll keep a nuke-like Q, a cleanse-heal or at least orange-related W, and a global or at least extremely high ranged R. Should I lose the possibility to skip boots in his build, I'd want extremely strong buffs to compensate u_u It'd be nice if his E packed a dash, high movement speed boost (stronger than the one he has now) or some form of hard CC (imho Fear or Flee would fit his pirate-blitz-ambush style).
