If Thornmail is such a stat-check item, why hasn't it been changed?

Thornmail tends to either be obnoxious against your enemies because they don't have the lifesteal or MR to combat it, or they DO have those stats and then Thornmail's effect is useless. There's really no middle ground, and it tends toward the latter situation, which makes the item a trap most of the time.

Riot cannot be blind to this, but they do nothing to the item and don't even talk about it. It's their silence that really bugs me, and I'd like to see someone from Riot actually say something about Thornmail's current position.

isnt every item stat check, because every single item provides stats for an appropriate amount of gold? some rare items have certain strategic actives, like item 3512 item 2049 for example. but almost every item in this game is nothing but a bundle of stats.

item 3031 is a stat check item item 3089 is a stat check item item 1001 are a stat check item

i dont see this being a viable argument against thornmail. i do agree that it needs a rework, because right now the item is trash even in situations it should be good (facing ad heavy teams with a lot of auto attacking champions). but thats mainly because the thing is balanced around extreme edge cases like Malphite Taric Rammus

Riot already stated that they're going to rework defensive itemization in the next class update, that includes item 3075 . No sense changing it now and then again in a few months.

They probably need to know what they are going to do with it first. I mean do you rework it, add new abilities and stats to it, or delete and add a new armor item to its slot. I say make the passive work against all forms of physical damage so AD casters have to worry about it too.
