Remove Surrender
It only brings harm to the game. Before you bring your flurry of downvotes, read through my reasoning why and then decide whether or not you still think that just giving up a game is worth it.
First off, League is a game of mentality. Any professional player or high ranked player will tell you that your attitude and your mentality on the game is a huge factor to your success in League. I have watched video after video and read guide after guide on how to climb solo Q and be the most effective. EVERY single one says that if you are not in the right mentality, DO NOT PLAY. Being on kilter, or "tilt", and having a negative/discouraged attitude is one of the worst things to possess before entering a league game, and during a league game. So how does this tie into the surrender option? Well, quite simply, having a teammate, or being the one on your team, who wants to surrender throws out a negative vibe. Just by the fact that someone feels your team is down far enough that they no longer want to participate or be involved in the current game can discourage other teammates, and more-so for the one who wants to surrender. Because of this negativity being surpressed on your team, players start to perform worse. They are less cautious, they are less ambitious and less aware. It also creates a pressure usually on one or more player to then "carry" the game from the impending defeat. Generally, while a champion can carry a game, League is still a big team game, and having a divided team will almost certainly lead to defeat.
Second point of discussion: Come backs are actually very, very possible. No matter what your circumstance is, there is always a possibility of a comeback. It all depends on how well the enemy team can pressure their lead and how you can take advantages of small mistakes. Quite often, people feel like there needs to be a really big turning point to go from absolute loss to victory. While yes, this can happen, it is more about clinching small advantages that bring you back into the game, and then push strengths to take the victory. Some examples; Clearing vision and laying down your own...if the enemy doesn't know what you are doing or where you are, then they can not pressure you as easily. Likewise, if you have vision on your enemy, you can avoid unnecessary deaths and your team can position to correctly defend and push objectives. Another example would be summoner spells. Knowing which allies and enemies have use of certain spells can also help you edge out small advantages, like collapsing on a champion who doesn't have flash, or defending an ally who doesn't have flash. Avoiding fights if you need an ignite and your mid laner doesn't have ignite up, etc. Knowledge of Teleport has become crucial due to the normality of two teleports per team. The best way to develop a comeback is to keep your team spirited and together. As I said early, League is a team game, and having a united and motivated team is key to taking a victory away from the enemy. Therefore, the option of surrender can only hinder your team, and allows no comeback, because the game is...well...over if you surrender.
Still not convincing? Okay, well, League is now considered an Esport. This new craze has become incredibly popular world wide. I mean, yes, Starcraft and Warcraft started the e-sport craze, and DOTA really exploded it, but LoL has taken it further than anyone could have imagined. With that being said, there is not a single sport, or e-sport that matter, that has a surrender option, yet League does. To me the surrender option is very classless. Imagine if a football game just ended at the second half because the other team was up 3 touchdowns. Or if a hockey game ended at the end of the second period because the other team just gave up and didn't want to play anymore. This never happens, because the viewers want to watch the entire game. Right to the end, you cheer for your team and you hope for the major comeback. While solo Q is not an e-sport nor does it have a viewer base at all, it still to be noted that the best of the best never give up hope in any sport, therefore, learn from the best and do not give up. However, I have seen teams surrender in pro play and to me, it is very disrespectful, saying that the other team is not worth your time or that your viewers are not worth time either.
And my last concern for having the surrender, is the fact that you can learn so much about the game and about your champion by playing out the entire game. Yes, you might get 100% demolished, but at least you are learning more and more about how your champion works from behind. The most brilliant minds known to man have claimed that you can only learn from your mistakes. Therefore, by playing out a game where you lose, sometimes even miserably, you are still learning from your mistakes. Lets look at some examples here: THe Late Steve Jobs (rest in peace) was fired and kicked out of Apple. He then founded a company called NeXT which was later acquired by Apple, and Steve Jobs worked tirelessly and proved his brilliance and then reinvented Apple into what it is today. What if he just gave up after being fired from Apple? Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper company because he...get this..."lacked creativity". Arguable the most creative person known to man to this date, was told he lacked creativity. So imagine if he took that personally and just gave up his pursuit of film design? Why should you as a devoted and passionate League player just surrender when you could have the potential in you to become the reason for a successful game. Bill Gates was turned down many times and his original operating system was widely frowned upon by computer enthusiasts and even IBM, until his persistence lead him to strike a deal and become one of the wealthiest humans alive.
All in all, don't give up, don't surrender. I would love to see the surrender option removed because of my reasons stated above. It is super frustrating just knowing that many of my games have been thrown away because of this option to just end the game. Until the Nexus falls, I will fight...
TL;DR, just read it, do you honestly have anything better to do?
