You're essentially forced to play an assassin, because everyone loves to pick them and if you choose a mage, you will immediately get counterpicked by a Yasuo, Zed, Talon, Fizz, you name it.
There's just no fun in playing mages anymore when you're guaranteed a shit lane opponent that can keep killing you over and over without any trouble.

But I can't because the meta is retarded. One point and click, no cost, ability deletes an entire health bar while Nocturne's Q costs 80 mana and it barely does 100 damage.

Those mages aren't as powerful when they're sent where they are suppose to go. Aside from Veigar and sometimes Viktor, I only mentioned those because if you've been playing them a lot you can take them in the mid lane no matter what match-up there is, but you are very vulnerable to pretty much everything.
Aurelion Sol and Rumble has to be in the Jungle, Brand, Xerath, Vel'koz and Malzahar has to be a Support, Ziggs has to be an ADC, and Karthus has to go Top.
This entire mid-lane meta revolves around Assassin/Assassin Mages that can do more damage than full damage Mages and have more sustain and survivability which makes them overall better picks. Example of Assassin mages are Ahri, Katarina, and Kassadin.
And yes this is a buff nocturne post in disguise. More like rework him.

BobaFlautist1 votesI'm still working through my placements, but I'd guess I'm still mid-ish silver which I think qualifies as low elo.
Morg is tons of fun once you get used to her, you get to predict the assassins jumping on you, then qw then for 2/3 of their hp.
I've killed over confident assassins level 3 because I've gotten the wave pushing with w while they harass me, and they all-in me as their last minions die and I just q-w-ignite and walk away as my wave kills them.
Post 6 you can kill pretty much anyone pretty easily if you land your combo well and they're not 100% hp.
Later you can build banshees/zhonya's for 20% cdr, decent resistances, and awesome extras.
