Thats why you end up losing lane early. Either start cloth armor 5 pots or ruby crystal 2 pots.

I cant remember the time but if you're in lane without backing for a certain length Dorans shield is actually better then cloth 5.

Lately I've been taking ruby + 2 on Garen however.

i've been getting first blood all day everyday because they think doran shield actually protects them from my damage.

I agree its not great right now, but if you're against someone with single target damage it can be alright. Dorans ring and blade are better though imo

Assuming even if you do win, that doesn't make doran's shield a smart purchase. It's gold inefficient and doesn't scale into late game. All it does is A) Give you a weaker lane phase than other options such as corrupting potion and B) holds your item build back.

Cloth armor 5 pots? It's season 6, you can only buy 4 pots with a cloth armor.

He is saying get cloth 4, since its superior in every way. You get more sustain from all the pots, you get more resists as well as the item building into actual things you will buy. All you lose out on is that 80 health which isn't really saving you and is well worth the other positives.

Hell if you want Dorans shield so much, you are better off getting Blade top then, even that is more useful top lane than shield.

You should only ever get Doran's Shield if you aren't going to ever use a cloth armor or health crystal in a component item and are against a poke-heavy matchup because, as op said, that item is trash.
